I'm a passionate music enthusiast who recently revamped my audio system with a new turntable cartridge and amplifier. My next mission? Crafting high-end speakers. This DIY journey consists of four stages: constructing cabinets with precise specifications and wiring, emphasizing design, creating stands that are visually striking and minimize bass vibration transfer, and designing the speaker grills. I've utilized a high-end DIY kit from CSS Audio; it's like piecing together a puzzle. I'm insanely happy with how these turned out and they sound absolutely amazing!

When I click the link, all I see are watches. Not sure where the speaker kits are?
Sorry, i miss understood the link. It helps when you watch all the way through the video.
Get rid of the iron core inductor.
The production of the video was as amazing as the speaker stands. They look incredible!
I've been building speakers for 30 years. For your first time at it, you did really well!!!
what would you have done differently?
My favorite video yet! I will never make a set of speakers, but loved watching you do it!
I am currently listening to " Apache - steel guitar " on my 1978 home made speakers. They each contain one 15 inch woofer, two mid-range drivers, and four tweeters. I did have to eventually replace the outer foam rings on the woofers due to the rubber foam having turned to dust. That cost me a whopping 27 dollars and several hours of work. But then they were back to being as good as new. The front panels are black, but that too had faded. I finally found some black wood stain and re-stained them. Now they look as good as the day i made them. Everyone who has heard them asked me to build them a pair. I also just brought my 1978 Soundcraftsmen PE-2217 equalizer back to proper performance. The 20 Faders ( potentiometers ) were stiff and intermittent. But that thanks to using Deoxit and a silicon lubricant, all is brand new again.
Amazing design and finish, one of the rare projects where I thought, "I want to do that." One thing that helps when doing the CNC stack up is to model in two dowel holes. Then you can use the dowel to align everything. I was going to leave a double negative (to turn it into a positive) but you want no negative comments...
Oh yeah, that's a great idea! Next time! thanks!
Big thumbs up for The Hives! saw them years ago as an opening act and they were better than the headliner. I have been a fan ever since
Beautiful work, Dave! They look amazing!!! 😃
Looking forward to the next build!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Just picked up a metal circular saw myself, commercial hvac installer/everything hobbyist, and it's one of the best tools I've ever owned. Specifically, it cuts through ductwork like a stick of butter. We call it the screamer, for obvious reasons
I like the way you thought (and shared) your way through this. Also, the TV window is really a great background. That has proven to be a better workshop add than i thoughtvitvwould be. 10/10.
Your editing is getting sharper and funnier every video. Love it!
I feel like this is one of the first time you've shown your metal work. Good job!! Cool to see how you do that too.
"Just like your mom". You're killing it, David. Love these jokes sprinkled in. (And snicker at them in the podcast too) Fabulous edits, and a gorgeous build!
mine kind of adjusting accordingly past ambient pro, but yeah wont be far, very close most likely
I don't know whether I'm more impressed by how clean your wood shop is or how the speakers turned out haha.
super awesome speaker cabinet, beautiful finish.
although you unfortunately and definitely still have a diffraction issue because your walnut extends beyond the plane of the drivers, this is an amazing job. Having that walnut around the speakers helps deaden any cabinet resonances. Love, love, love the grill design. If you do another pair, consider using neodymium magnets to attach them. With your skills, you can recess mount those into the wood. those stands are just SICK!!! Bravo!
Made cabinets for my SpeakerLab speakers years ago. Still use them. Were state of the art at that time. Probably not so much now. Nice video.
That TV setup in the background still amazes me. Looks so sharp! The speakers turned out great. I've always wanted to up my turntable game. Maybe one day...!
Nice speakers. Love the way they turned out always a sucker for walnut.
I am so very impressed. Great job. You have an artistic sense and the common sense to pull them off.
Very amazing as always love watching the ideas you come up with and how you go about making them come to life.
i love the way you covered the mdf. beautiful job
We thinks whole lot a like. Those stands are fantastic. Speakers are my thing..
Love the " No bad Comments"
Your Positivity and your style of humor and attitude towards things seem similar to mine. Keep making Great Content. Love your builds and rebuilds of other items.
Man, the foam insulation with veneer, the dowel as trim, love it all!
Great build David. I hit the like button but I don't think that using the laser jet is cheating. Thanks for reminding us that you're human too and can make the same mistakes as us. It's no big deal and you just move on. Your rules of woodworking are awesome.
I’m impressed with the quality of the design. I’m always looking forward to your next build. Nice work bro.
Nice job! Kerry and Dan have some great designs for sure!
How do you measure genius. I asked my Dad’s best friend once. His name was Dr Tim Ball. He was a climatologist and highly intelligent. He told me that true genius came from the ability to communicate with anyone at their level. You do this. You have a building with every component.. tool to make things seem effortless in execution.
As most geniuses go… I applaud you in your abilities. Very impressive. Truly.
This is very kind of you. I do feel I have a long journey before I can use the word genius. ❤️
That tv build looks so good in the back ground.
CSS audio speakers are great and SUPER easy to wire and build. 100% recommend. CSS was my first DIY speaker build.
These turned out 🤌🏽. Smart design, too, since the sound will bend around the base instead of smash into it. I was surprised there was no mom joke in the welding section. 😊
Not a negative comment!
I really enjoyed this video, David. I especially liked the synthwave/vaporwave style music played in this video.
Those speakers look amazing and I really like the aerodynamic pillars you made for them. 👌
Thank you!
Every episode is just an ode to David’s ability to grow an awesome beard even when he chops it off.
You are so freaking inspiring! Makes me want to get out in the shop and make something! loved the Edit and your shop is fun quirky spot unlike any other woodshop! loveyoubye!
I wasn't sure about those stands when you first started working on them, but the finished product turned out amazing!
it its what i heard it can drive smth like a18t just fine, not that the 3 cant
Diggin the little finger condom you used for the glue up, glad to see you’re using protection 😂
Nice, I got a few great tips today, absolutely love the little Dachshund, put more of it in your videos.
No clue what your saying when comes to all the musical mumbo jumbo but dang them speakers look nice 😂😅
I hate negativity and I have to say this looks pretty awesome! I build custom subwoofer enclosures for car audio and all my boxes have beauty panels on the front to make the speakers look like they are sunken. It looks cleaner. Liked your enclosures!
Dude you KILLED it on this build. Those stands are dope af. Reminds me of the esthetics of bowers and wilkins nautilus line. Everything about these is just excellent. The design from top to bottom and the build quality. Grills were rad too.
Again, this is a friggin’ entertaining video with an amazing result. Don’t you ever stop making videos, David!!!
Awesome speakers man! Good job! They look amazing! Oughta be able to jam out right with those speakers!!
Ooh and thanks for using the laser, now I feel more at home again! 👌👌👌
For future reference, Liquid Nails makes a foam-specific glue that won't melt the foam and will give excellent, quick adhesion.
Great vid fella. Only one thing to be aware of is the plastic front sheet is likely to vibrate against the plywood front facia underneath....more glue egor! Oh and you will get edge diffraction as the sound bounces off the front 'raised' edges. And one more tip, you have the cabinets rammed up against a wall so the ports cant 'breath' reducing your bass response, they need to come forward at least 50cm, preferably a good 1.5m.
But, what an epic build, clearly incredibly skilled in woodwork.
What a nice work! That a nice finishing in every single detail of the project! Congratulations!
This project turned out really well, the stands perhaps even better than the speakers (aesthetically speaking)!
It’s nice that you’ve got the sides of the walnut sticking out like that. Nobody does anything like that. That’s just unique
14:23 This part killed me! 😂
I needed exactly this for the same reason. Thank you.
❤️
It was an incredible job... All I can do is admire and drool... because to accomplish such a feat, a lot of expensive equipment is needed, which unfortunately a very small portion of people here in Brazil have access to.
You have talent and right tools, that’s why you always make great stuff.
Rock on brother….
Holzkern, really?? We went on a city trip to Vienna two weeks ago and I litterally walked past their shop, thinking: What a cool name for a shop!
Dude, you did everything so perfect today!
Mad skills plus the ultimate workshop. I am jealous!
VERY nice build!
Built my own speakers back in 1978. Thet each contain one 15" woofer, two mid-range drivers, and four tweeters. Anyone who has heard them has asked me to build speakers for them. Although, I did have to replace the outer rubber foam rings on the woofers at one point, because they, due to age, had turned to dust. That cost me a whopping $27.
Very nice! Reminds me my old Advent speakers.
I stick polystyrene quite a lot and I use spray adhesive. Just spray lightly from a distance on both sides and leat it sit for a minute then stick. It’s the solvent that melts the polystyrene so if you spray from 1ft or so most of it has evaporated before it hits the foam. Then once contact is made it sticks and dries instantly.
Great tip! Thanks!!
Sticking EPS foam together ? - use 3M77 - although it's a contact adhesive, you really don't need to coat both sides - just spray one and stick them together, been doing that since Pontius was a pilate 🙂 You can use it for your veneers too 🙂
Thanks! So 3M77 doesn't eat away the foam like 3M90?
since Pontius was a pilate! 🤣🤣
@@MakeSomething No, use it all the time to stick models made of depron together (eps foam sheet) - not cheap, but lasts a long time - great graphics adhesive too.
Love the project, and I love the music The music puts me in mind of an old school consul video game
I have KEF speakers which are absolutely amazing. On my third set. But this is wanting too make my own, just so I can show them off. I’m anxious about the stands. My stands have 4 spikes in the bottom to keep bass from traveling or whatever that word is. You can tell I paused to write this, now back to the show
Lol, I’m sat here watching the video, wearing my “The death of Randy Fitzsimmons” T-shirt.
The Hives are amazing
Oh man! YES!
Love it! But I'd flip one grill so it's mirrored 😊
Your amount of creativity is next level, Beautiful speakers and stands as well!
✅🍿
Looks awesome man! Recently came back to your channel, forgot how funny you are !
Amazing work! Grills not my favorite but overall, well done!
Remember, when you're resting, when you're safe in your bed sleeping, Picciuto is milling lumber.... Always milling lumber....
Back when you were rocking your ball caps with the tag on them still lol.... I was building competition level sub boxes and door speaker enclosures (speaker cloth and fiberglass resin and cloth- maybe you can use that somewhere down the line ??) HUGE audiofile and listening to you with Klipsch speakers which are absolutely my favorite i've ever heard but HATE the factory shelf liner looking exterior . Already had plans of using some Osage Orange to wrap around the existing speakers but definitely borrowing the old guitar amp speaker cloth idea ! Being from that era and amps and guitars on my walls , it's absolutely bad ass Dave ! don't know how they sound but they look awesome , including the bent veneer and foam ! You are goofy as hell in a good way tho ....😂
Dave, those look great~! I really like the ad lib with the covers on the uprights of the speaker stands. Those turned out great. Not a criticism, but when you showed the final pic, I thought that it would look good if the grills were mirror images of each other. Just my $0.02 worth. Speakers are something I've always wanted to tackle. Maybe one day. Nicely done~!!
I agree about the mirrored look.
Love that strip of orange on the grill
Excellent video man! Hilarious! Entertaining! Everything it needed to be.
A very nice build! I have a collection of both vintage high-end electronics and exotic speakers, but I hardly consider myself an audiophile, just a guy that likes listening to music. An audiophile is a person who, doesn't listen to the music, but listens to his equipment. That said, as suggestion: when you cut out the bluish-gray piece for the front of the speaker, how about making that piece in such a way where you could change the color of the front of the speaker for when you decide to remove the grills? Red for Christmas and Valentines day, tan or brown for Thanksgiving, maybe a patriotic theme for the 4th of July? Just a thought. (I'm a designer, not a dyed in the wool audiophile) Again, a very, very good job and an enjoyable watch, thanks!
Great video, Im excited to build some personal speakers.
Well done, they look sick!
Fantastic build! You will enjoy the hell out of those speakers. Good job on raising the drivers with the gasket material. However not negative but just so you know you will still be getting some defraction from the walnut front edge that protrudes passed the front baffle. I know probably not a big deal but you know Audiophile 😃🔈👍🏻
Is it thumbs down if we don’t think it’s cheating?😉 Dude you’re making your videos so much fun to watch! Keep it up David!
White shirt with a black tie, white and blue shirt underneath. Class act!
Fantastic job.
Wait, makers look after how they look? I didn’t get the memo, I now feel bad for looking like a dumpster 😂😂
Awesome build, they look awesome!
Incredible setup!! So jealous
Great build! I'm not seeing any negative comments
Those speakers look Veni Vidi Vicious! I know if I had those I’d Go Right Ahead and blast some Hives too!
hahaha! ❤️
a couple things... I am totally going to try and build some speakers soon and 2. Thanks for introducing me to the Hives... I had never heard of them before. They remind me of Radio Moscow, check them out if you haven't heard of them.
I’m amazed how talented some people are. Great job!
I hope they sound as good as they look!
The airplane wing shape. Very Mid Century mod. They look great, and walnut is the perfect choice. Nice.
And the CNC! Loving it! (Can you tell I'm pausing and commenting as I'm watching??)
More comments equals more engagement, right?!
Thanks!
Whoa! What?! Thank you thank you!
We are all just going to have to come over & hear them for ourselves, David. Lol. 😎
Hey there
The stands are a tremendous idea and look fantastic
I am a big fan of MTM speakers. I have a pair of ARIA 5 speakers I built from kits over 20 years ago.
These look absolutely stunning! John Heisz has a few good words about audio nerds. If it sounds good to you, thats all that matters. Off to watch the electronics build now. (Edit: guess I already watched that one.) Quick question: if I don't have a laser to cut the acrylic panels, is it ok if I use my CNC? 😁 Thanks for sharing!
BRRROOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! This looks incredible!! Can’t wait to see the cabinet build - well done man! Also, the humor and editing in this video is top notch. You’re hitting on all cylinders, my man!
Transparent = you can look through. Translucent = looks like milk but light can shine through
wait wait wait you're just telling me NOW that you're not a scientist?!?! love it 🫡
Great results.
Picciuto at his finest!! Great work dude!
Awesome video as always. Your artistic side is more than obvious on every project you make. I think the grills should be mirrored for left and right speaker.
I agree!
Me too !!! I was just goin' to write the same NEGATIVE comment ! 🤣🤣🤣
Never mind, it's so bad that we can't listen to the sound of these beauties on youtube… I'm sure it's a blast !@@MakeSomething
