      Please have a look here. It is knowing what you do and when and where you do it. Really 4x4 on a 12.000 kg vehicle does not make much sense.

    OK, first of all; Kara and Nate are heavily sponsored, this is not THEIR rig....
    But back to you guys, this truck is amazing! You did a very good job on the construction, and using a c-can is very smart. If the truck ever fails, you can rebuild a new truck in no time!
    This truck will do awesome here in Canada! You're always welcome to swing by, here in the Rocky Mountains, to stay for a while on our property!
    The Earthroamers are build for luxury, I bet 80% of these RV's have never seen a dirt road....
    Your truck is RWD, but that will do in 90% of all roads. The ER is way to big for offroading! It's heavy and the wheel base is to long. I give the Ugly a better change on the roads in Canada!
    Jullie kanaal is erg leuk, blijf rijden en geniet ervan zolang het kan!

    • @uglysjourney

      What an amazing comments!! 👍❤️ Thank you very much! And when we get rich and are able to do an oversea journey we might just swing by for your promise. Sounds great being in the Rocky Mountains!
      And you are right regarding 4x4 versus rwd. In Africa they laugh when those rich Europeans roll in with their 4x4 rigs.... There they just drive around the sand dune 🤣🤣
      Anyway. Thanks for your kind reaction!! Hope you will stay around for a while! 👊

    Ugly is wonderful. I'd take it as well no brainer. THAT being said, about the cabin pass-through, It is, depending on where you roam, quite mandatory in terms of security.
    If you're in your bed, and there are bad "vibes" outside, I like to be able to jump from my bed to the wheel and drive away. No pass-through means you have to expose yourself outside.

    • @uglysjourney
      @uglysjourney  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the compliment! 👍❤️
      I do not understand the "bad vibes" thing. Is it like what I describe below?
      Are you talking something dangerous? In that case how would you know?
      Or are you talking something noisy, like youngsters playing music? In that case why would you not want to expose yourself?
      Thinking about making a video on the topic.

    • @shilombaba
      @shilombaba หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@uglysjourney I am talking about people with bad or potentially bad intentions.
      Let's say you're in your bed and you hear someone trying the door or the window, or if people come to deal near by, or just any idiot with nothing better to do than bother you..
      In those situations, it's important to be able to get away as fast as possible.
      Of course, if you never get near cities, it's less important, but in any case, I feel better having it than not, because you can be "trapped" otherwise.

    • @uglysjourney
      @uglysjourney  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for helping me to get this figured out!
      So we have 1. Door tester 2. Dealer 3. Annoying.
      1. This type of thief does not want to get caught, wants to avoid contact. Is probably more scared of you. Are you sure you could hear him test the doors?
      2. But what is the issue? It is shady business. They try to be covert. A car door slams perhaps, but would you notice any more?
      3. Yes we have had that happen. Walking back and forth, talking to himself. Not nice. But it is not likely directed to us and it was not. We stayed and slept like a baby.

    • @uglysjourney
      @uglysjourney  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! 👍❤️ Getting wet is annoying indeed. Also with not so heavy rain and perhaps muddy ground, it could be nice to have a passthrough.
      But yeah, for us that does not really happen a lot since we try to be in nice weather. So is it worth it then.....? Or perhaps we do not mind, so we do not notice, since we are used to the rain in the Netherlands 🤣

    • @ThomasTomiczek
      @ThomasTomiczek หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@uglysjourney Yeah, still - I would mostly say a passthrough with a door of sorts would offer no negatives (if not used it is just closed) and potential benefit. So, it is more about having a reason NOT to do it. Which may be a heat seal? You mention in the video the container can be removed - that is more problematic with a passthrough.
      Really a matter of where you go - I mean, I remember coming out of the hotel with my car under 30cm of snow ;) In your camper - a passthrough would really be nice to, you know.. again... not get out. Netherlandsa re one thing, but going for Sylvester into the mountains? Also possible from there.

      @@alexanderpalamarchuk5190 I live in the foothills of the Rockies and we get plenty of snow and ice and it gets cold around here. I'm not about wheeling campers nor am I about staying at a KOA or the like. Yeah, earthroamers are way overbuilt but on the flipside most conversions aren't up to the task. It's not unusual to get 12" of snow overnight or for the weather to dip to -20c unexpectedly.

    • @uglysjourney
      @uglysjourney  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fair points. 👍❤️ But think about this. When you live, love and work in a place then I understand you have equipment for that place. Ergo you have a 4x4 and that makes sense! You need to drive through the unexpected snow.
      But I would never go to your area in snow/rainy seasons. And think about it, a Earthroamer would also not go there in that period (99% of them). So having a 4x4 Earthroamer seems very pointless.

      Ah, yeah, get it. I try not to live with fear, perhaps that is a difference.
      And for these instances I am a big fan of 1. Calling the police. It will take them a long time to get in anyway..... 2. Having an old wallet filled with expired creditcards and a bit of cash ready.
      Both options are just as good.
      And when thieves actually take the risk of entering with you in it. Btw they will not, but when they do. They will have made sure you cannot drive away 😄 because then they know something is there and it is worth the risk....

    • @wigs1098
      @wigs1098 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You only cite your experience where you live. Where I live (Australia) you are often not in phone range and very isolated. The lack of pass through is a definite minus. No aircon or shower also doesn't work in hot climates. No way you could use that thing even in Spring here, let alone summer. However, it is a great build, but not what would be practical here, but I understand it is built for your use scenario and you did a great job.

    • @uglysjourney
      @uglysjourney  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for explaining your thoughts this good. Nothing I can say against or add.
      Maybe one thing. In my thought I do not understand the reasoning that a passthrough provides safety against thieves.
      So the base-thought is "they want to steel something while you are in the vehicle".
      If that is the case they have made an evaluation. They have thought "the risk is high (person inside), but the expected reward is also high". They see something expensive (your truck, a watch, jewelery) So you are now a target.
      The FIRST THING they would do is make sure you cannot drive away. Block the wheels, attach a cable, put an old car in front etc etc etc.
      What good would a passthrough be then?

And if you will be on a nice place somewhere in the world, who will earn more respect: someone like you who invested a lot of work and passion into your truck or another person who „just“ spend 1,1 mln EUR, probably more than anyone in country you visit, would earn during the whole life. We have also a „just bought“ truck and I could be never as proud on it as you can be. I feel always uncomfortable if I am getting asked about the price of our car. Thanks ❤️👍 and you are right.....what was I thinking not to have a shower. Will try to explain in short.
      1. Many camper people do not use their inside shower. You can ask them. It takes to much watercapacity (both clean and dirty).
      2. A shower is relatively much space that you use only a couple of minutes a week. I wanted to be able to use the space for something else.....
      3. I was afraid of water 😬. Moisture and mold are big enemies in a camper....

      Do you have a lot of off-road experience on motorhomes? Do you know what weight distribution is when driving off-road? Don't you think that with a certain roll off-road, your refrigerator will come off or you will just turn over because the water inside, accumulators and much more have weight? If you mean driving just on dirt roads, any truck can handle it, it's not a sports car.

    One major problem with the homebuilt truck.
    The container can be removed.
    This in Europe means the truck can still be used ( container off ) for hire and reward, ie paid deliveries and collections using another empty container or demoutable bed.
    This means that you can only drive it in Europe if you have an operators licence, and if you are travelling between nations you would need an international operators licence.
    This involves taking a lot of qualifications and also requires reserves in the bank.
    It also means the truck must operate under full EU drivers laws and conditions and must meet all periodic inspection requirements.
    In short the yellow home built truck is illegal.
    Plus being 12 ton you need a class C heavy goods vehicle licence to drive it and you would also need a drivers CAP / CPC qualification and would have to drive it under fully recorded tachograph regulations.
    Also due to it's MGW if you wanted to tow a trailer above 750kg MGW you would require a CE licence and further catagories for your operators license.
    My advice as an operator is DO NOT drive this on a public road.
    If you are caught you will be in a lot of trouble, and I mean a lot.

    So, idea about container on truck is nice, but would be better if you take a semitrailer like Iveco Daily and put there this container - its smaller vehicle, less fuel consumption, smaller tyres (its one of expensive parts in car services) and have 6 person version of cabin, also its category of vehicle for entrance of cities (most city-center or in europe is forbidden for trucks, trucks forbidden also for some another places, much more expensive toll roads)
    Its can be great also if you are working on this vehicle and change trailer for another work.
    But if you use only for traveling best way its find trailer or typical alcove for 15 000 - 30 000 euros - and everything is already constructed by engineers and factory for living in traveling,
    Spend 100k or 1kk USD hmmm.....

      The weight of an empty standard container is 20 feet (as I see it is presented here) it is 2100-2300 kilograms, the weight of a standard trailer with everything necessary for 4-5 people is about 1500 kg (with the bulk of this being the frame and body, which should already be calculated, that is, the "payload" will be about 500-750 kilograms, but let's count to the maximum), the total is 3800 kilograms, the weight of the tractor and trailer is about 2500-3000 kilograms in total , we have 6800 kilograms of total weight - which is acceptable for category B+E (3500+3500) driver's license

    I have a concern about the video. You unfairly compared the two vehicles. You chose to compare your vehicle to the Earth Roamer. Despite the luxury features, your vehicle wouldn't be able to go to half the places the Earth Roamer could. So, while your vehicle has the same luxury items, its off-road limitations will greatly affect your travel options.

    • @uglysjourney

      Thanks for leaving your thoughts! Well worded. And I understand and underline them.
      But there is a nuance. Being able to drive somewhere is not the same as actually driving somewhere.
      Let me explain it roughly. 1. You will be surprised where a rear wheel vehicle like mine can go. 2. And you will be surprised where most of the 4x4 campers actually go and sleep.
      Many of the 4x4 vehicles are bought because there is "fear" and/or "cash-ability" in play.
      Call it "over-engineering"......
