You are right, but also not right. It is the same weight categorie as an Earthroamer. It weighs 12.000 kg (26.000 lb for US). 😉👍

Ok, so have to ask what is the weight capacity of the vehicle? While one might say it’s off road ready, I think 12 tons might be pushing it.

@chaosncheckt9356 thanks for asking! The max weight is 12 tons, so it is loaded to the max. We take the truck to bumpy gravel roads and sandy beaches. Not extreme, but yeah, who wants to take their home on a 20% muddy incline with a chance of tipping over? Not many I presume? 😉👍 Can you say why you ask about off road readiness?

@@uglysjourney The design, truck body, thorough insulation, and robust solar for power, would have made it an awesome all season off road rig. In the States we refer to off road camping as boon docking, so our rigs are self contained. If it weren’t for the weight, you could probably get it to some pretty remote areas. My worry at 12 tons would be getting on rough roads and breaking something. Still, a sweet rig especially if you can swap it to other trucks or even onto land. I would imagine your fuel miles are pretty terrifying.

Thanks for explaining to me! And you are right! We live in it full-time and we stay off-grid always. We can even make our own drinking water from almost any source. Only diesel is needed....and in that aspect you are right as well, but it is does a bit better than the Earthroamer for example. We do 12 MPG (5 liter per km).🫣 Some day we hope to take a step up and have a stronger vehicle....🤞🤞 Do you own a expedition truck?

Hi! Thanks for sharing your concern. 👍 Wood has a high isolation value, so it is not likely that there will be thermal bridging. You would be right when I would have used metal framing. Could my thoughts be right? I hope so 👍😄🤞🤞🤞

@@uglysjourney I meant that there was no need to frame the floor in; You could have used 3/4" plywood over top of a layer of two of the pink foamular, which is highly resistant to compression. On the walls, Instead of running the framing vertically, it would have been better to run it horizontally, as that would have minimized the contact with the ribs of the container (Chuck Cassady has a great video on it). I also would have not used the reflective tape and insulation boards, as they need an air gap to work correctly. You'd actually save cost and get a similar R-value if you used the pink foamular on the floors, and use the extra budget to do spray foam on the walls and ceiling. I also would have used 3" strips of 3/4" plywood instead of 2x4 framing to save on space without sacrificing strength. Of course, I'm coming at this from a skoolie perspective, but there's definitely things that can be carried over from that to your build.

Thanks for taking the time and letting me know! And indeed perhaps some learnings can always be had from other "trades" and in other countries people use other techniques. But please know that my PIR panels at 5 cm (2.27 rd) have a much higher rd-value (insulation value) than the pink foam panels at 6 cm (1.82 rd) or the spray foam (1.60 rd). Additionally for "buildabillity" my choice for framing is spot on, but I understand this could be different for skoolies. So for now I am quite happy with the choices I made in this aspect👍😄.

@@uglysjourney The way PIR panels are tested for their R value is under very specific conditions, and takes into account the reflective value of the panel. R value alone is not a good indicator of insulation value. That reflective surface only works for heat, and not for cold. That being said, it's your build, and if you're happy with it, then that's all that matters. Please don't take this as me putting down your build. I can see the work you put into it, and you can do more than most of the population, so kudos for that.

Interesting, but there are many things to say, like CE certification. Can you share a link that supports your R-value statement?

You are right, always things that need improving. Solar panel setup can be more efficient. And we need a flyscreen in the side door as well. But all in all we are quite happy with the results. We will make a video on learnings and further improvements. Thanks for the tips! 😄👍

@romanomaximo6649 there might be a bit of movement (I have not filmed during driving) but we added some connections and screws. Untill now we do not see any loose cupboards or askew doors. Hope this helps! ❤️👍

So people can rent a place to stay with us and sleep in the rooftop tents. Especially for cyclists is the idea. Gray watertank we have an outlet. We can dump it at special stations or where we would like 🤷🫣. No, I am not in transport, but I studied logistics and used to live in Rotterdam (container capital of Europe 😄).

@@uglysjourney thanks. In my country, same truck upkeep (insurance and other costs) are 2500-300 EUR / year. Plus toll, plus fuel, plus repair if need. I think, the bigger cost is insurance... :/ Good luck, nice trip! Im waiting to next videos.

From 2022 jan to 2023 mar I was fleetmanager in bus firm, from 2023 mar to 2024 febr I was dispatcher in a small transport firm. Now Im search my new job and continous dreaming for my RV. In Hungary not a simple and easy country for buy and upkeep RVs, the payments enough to living, not more. I sent my CV over 40 firms in HU, and I get more more "no thanks" messages... I have knowledge (without schools) and I can't use anywhere... Its a hard mode of living. I sent mail to you in a few months ago, where I write the toll of hungarian roads and a few points to look, if you want to see around in my country.
