Great build Steve. I don't know any other modeller who would have put so much love and attention into such a small model. You are an inspiration to the rest of us. Good work!👍
Hi Steve looks like you were lucky and didn't get one of the kits with the short shot part. What a pleasure to see a skilled modeller build a humble little kit like that and put so much love and care into it and thank you for filming it and allowing us to share your experience. Best wishes Vic
That was an excellent video ty , i will be doing mine very soon , ty for the tips and things to look out for , glad you mentioned about the axle and rear wheel fitment .
An interesting and unique build. I do remember seeing this kit in my local Hobby Shop when I was a lot younger but never had the interest in buying it still I thought it was different. You did a good job on the build and thanks for the walk down memory lane.
What a beautiful build! I've bought two of this kit and remember making it when it was first released in the '70s. I don't think I'll see one made as well as you have done this, though. Excellent work.
Great job, Steve. Just received mine and you have answered my question about fitting the body to a completed chassis. I'll have to hone my masking skills for the seats as I want an orange interior. As a boy in the '60s I had a few of their 1/32 cars. I particularly remember building the frog-eyed Sprite. Now that's a re-release I'd love to see!
Lovely build Steve which brought back a lot of memories. I too built one back in the day, guess I must have been 11 or 12. Like you I seem to remember it being white plastic. Got one on order.
Hi Steve, what a wonderful surprise, and yes I am of that era, my Bug arrived last week and am dying to get it done, great attention to detail as ever with a stunning end result, bit frightened of 2 pack, but think i will give it a go now, talk soon. 👌
Hi Steve, looks like you had a ton of fun building that car! Better than the drilling in that finished camo scheme. You convinced me to finally purchase Mr. surfacer. Can you please tell me what respiratory mask to use or send a link of what you would recommend? I’ve only used MM and Vallejo, but am willing to try at least the lacquer primer for now. I do have a tiny booth downstairs and have been using simple filter masks for the acrylics. Since there are so many types of masks, I figured I would ask a professional! Thanks in advance if you can steer me in the right direction on what to purchase.
I use a 3M half face mask like these: www.3m.co.uk/3M/en_GB/p/c/ppe/respiratory-protection/reusable-respirators/half-mask/ I also have the extractor on and the windows open if I’m spraying lacquer or 2-pack
Strangely enough, I saw one of these today traveling north up the M18. Don't think I would have felt very safe in it surrounded by lorries. Great build though.
Good question Paul. The Reliant company bought out the Bond car company and used the name to market this more modern take on the Reliant models of the time.
Ben Sherman shirt and Levi Staypressed trousers! Great effort Steve - a REAL blast from the past!!! I hate to ask where you stuck the stick when you were painting they/them. Lol
Can I ask what psi you sprayed the 2k clear coat. Did you apply a coat of klear coat prior? Only reason for asking is that when I sprayed 2k clear coat on humbtol orange 19 for beach buggy, the clear coat took the shine out of the sprayed orange gloss.
I've seen a notion, among builders of Polar Lights and similar "nostalgia" kits, that one ought not take the kits too seriously, and this would be a good example of building 'competently' but not trying for rivet-counting accuracy.
I think that’s right - they’ll be bought by people of an age who can remember them when they were first available. I can’t imagine many newcomers to the hobby buying many of them.
Steve, let’s just things into perspective here, a kit of this complexity and magnitude is way beyond your skill level im afraid. Please you shouldn’t attempt this it will only lead to tears! 😂😂😂
I'm having to double-clutch a bit, where Q feels a need to have a Bond version of a Reliant Robin 😀 It's not blue, so we know it's not a Mr Bean "villain" 🙂
I grew up thinking it had something to do with 007 but it was just the trade name taken from the Bond motor company. Sean Connery would have looked distinctly uncool swapping his DB5 for one of these.
Another great build/ video. I am concerned that you used a two part finish without any protection to your skin - not sure about a mask. I have always believed that this stuff, whilst very good result, is very harmful.
Really nice build! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you 👍
awesome build ! 👍👍👌👌
Thank you 👍
Great build Steve. I don't know any other modeller who would have put so much love and attention into such a small model. You are an inspiration to the rest of us. Good work!👍
I just can’t resist - just have to fiddle 😬😬
Lovely build. I regularly see a Bond Bug driving around in north London. It always brings a smile to my face.
It did me as well whilst I was building it - nice little model 👍
Beautiful build.
thanks Steve
Thank you so much for this video. It’s been super helpful in building my own!
Good - enjoy it it’s a fun build
Excellent video. Very helpful as I'm in the middle of building this at present.
Thanks👍
What a great job…a classic build of a classic kit! I actually remember seeing a couple of these when I lived in London.
Thanks David 👍
My form teacher had one of these when I was 10 and we all thought it was the coolest thing.
I bet Bill - top teacher.
What a lovely little build, thanks Steve.

Cheers Jason

I hadn’t heard of any problems with the moldings Vic but mine was fine. Thank you.
@@TheModelShed On some of them the bootlid/parcel shelf didn't come out of the mould properly.
Cool!
Sure is Paul
Nice job as always steve
Cheers Jerry

You’re welcome thanks - I enjoyed the build a lot.
Great build, my art teacher had one in the early 80's and she was really quite cool.
She must have been. Wonder if she still has it 40+ years later

Well done Mr Steve. I can't recall ever seeing one on the road.
Me neither David.

Thank you Alan
Bonjour Steve, un modèle original simple à assembler ce qui te change des autres montage que tu nous présente . Cool
merci. Je pense parfois qu'il est bon de faire quelque chose d'un peu différent

enjoy it Jeff and good luck with the orange interior

Enjoy it Ian it’s great fun.
A really nice effort, that! Looks great. Well done.
Thanks John
great work ,the kit must have been a nice change for you
It was Mick it’s good to mix things up a bit when you’re doing big projects like the Bismarck.
cool build thanks lee
👍
And sold at Woolworths, next to the matchbox multi colour kits.
Woolworths - I must have spent hours trying to decide which to choose with my pocket money every Friday.
@@TheModelShed bought on a Friday, built and painted on the Saturday, and being played with on the Sunday,oh happy days.

Be careful with it Alan and use a respirator with fume filters. it really does smell deadly.

Best build I've seen on here , those wheels and tyres look odd though . Seems the wheel is too wide for the tyre or vice versa
Yes they are a bit Shaun - they’d look a bit better with the wheel thinned down a bit so it’s sits further into the tyre.
Our deputy head at school had one
Cool deputy head was he.

Strangely enough, I saw one of these today traveling north up the M18. Don't think I would have felt very safe in it surrounded by lorries. Great build though.
The way people drive on the M18 I don’t think I’d have taken my Bug on it. Come to think of it I wouldn’t want to drive one into my garage.
Terrifying to ride in - especially with passengers, IIRC. I never expected to see one again, real or kit😀
Apparently it had a top speed in excess of 80mph. You’d have to be brave or an idiot to drive one flat out.
Great build, I enjoyed it! Any thoughts on a Merlin V12 swap into a second one? er...... 8^) Cheers!
I have a spare 1/32 Merlin. Unfortunately it’s actually bigger than the entire bug 😬😬😬😬😬
@@TheModelShed 😀 That could be an issue - might need a tailwheel as well! Cheers!
Nice Steve, is this avoidance behaviour vis a vis the Bismark?
😂😂😂😬😬😬 a bit I suppose but the Bismarck will be ready for Telford I promise
Cute little thing!
Why was it called the Bond Bug?
Good question Paul. The Reliant company bought out the Bond car company and used the name to market this more modern take on the Reliant models of the time.

No John the 2k went over the lacquer orange. the tack coat dulled it but the subsequent coats built up the shine. I sprayed it around 12-15psi.
Thank you
Nostalgia, it’s not what it used to be. 😊
😂😂
It isn't going to be any better

Lucky it doesn't date from the 2010's - The driver would have been covered in ugly tattoos, making for difficult detail works.
Someone will do decals - surely?
