    For me it depends on the pitcher itself. If it has bugs in it but dying from the top then ill wait for the whole thing to die off. If there's barely anything or nothing in it and it's dying I may or may not cut it at the beginning or half way, depends if there's another pitcher or tendril growing or not so if there is then I'll cut it somewhat early to let the rest of the energy go towards the new pitchers growing. Love your channel!

    Hi Rémi,
    I always wait until the very end of the pitchers to trim them. I really think that it benefits to the plant and I also find that it looks more "true to type", more wild looking !
    This is even more true for Heliamphora.
    Nice burkei 😜, such an underrated species !

    Nice. I totally agree with you. I got into nepenthes back in 2009 and used to watch Sarracenia Northwest. They were the first ones I learned from. I went with their mentality that if you can't stand to look at the pitchers cut them off. There will be other pitchers to catch bugs. People worry too much about leaving them to get "more nutrients". If they worry so much and have no pitchers they can foliar feed. Problem solved. As for leaves, I try to cut them when they are all yellow but sometimes miss them. And of course any dead brown material needs to go and I clean it up if I have time or notice. The only exception right now is I have one large nepenthes I want to flower and it has one really cold pitcher and no others. I have been putting fertilizer in the pitcher and osmocotte pellets. It has not died yet and though I hate it and how ugly it is, I will keep it because I really want to know if this plant is male or female.

    Hi, nice video! I have a tip for you: sterilize your scissors with some alcohol and a flame between each plant, trust me you would hate to lose your collection due to having spread a virus, pest, or bad bacteria from one plant to all of them!
    A question about basals: my plants all have basels and are growing very slowly. The basals still seem too small to cut and have them survive... what do I do, I’d love for my plants to grow bigger

      @WindowsillNepenthes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I never experienced virus or bacteria but you're right, I'll try to sterilize it.
      For basal, I have a video half cooked that I still need to edit. ;)

    I cut the completely dried out pitchers, but i tend to leave the dried leaves to give it a natural look at times. Sometimes i just cut it. lol

    I tend to let all the leaves, tendrils and pitchers dry out completely before cutting so that I don’t need to trim my plant too many times in a single year, this way I also don’t traumatize or shock the plant unnecessarily and I gotta say, it has kept my neps happy thus far

    I have a question for you. My picture plant went through a couple moves in a short time and was neglected over the winter. It is now spring here and there are long branches that have no leaves but have beautiful green growth the last several inches. Should I cut the new green growth off and start new plants or should I leave it as it is and remove all the dead leaves? Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated and by the way, I do enjoy your videos very much.

      If the "base" of the plant is healthy, I would cut the brown stem and do cuttings. Sometime, a fresh start is better :)
      As long as now you don't neglect it, it should be just fine. But if you don't have time to take care of it right now, wait and leave the plant as it is.

    Hey Remi, your videos are amazing man, keep it up ❤ So informative and you have videos on literally all my questions/concerns since I’ve dove into the CP world!
    Question: The plant you showed around 4:30-4:50, what is the name? I have one and not sure who it is 😊

      Thanks! It's N. burkei, a close relative to N. ventricosa.

    Hello Remi, I hope you and your plants are well :)
    I have a question
    I read somewhere that trimming healthy small, leaves at the far bottom, the ones that can't produce pitchers, will help the whole plant create growth hormones to grow more pitchers faster. Is there any truth to this, as far as you know?
    Thank you!

      It's the first time I hear about that but if one day I talk with a botanist, I'll ask. ;)

    I trim mine pretty quickly - they get fed by fertiliser through the spag moss and I’m an aesthetic grower

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes sometime is hard to look at an ugly pitcher... especially during winter when there is only one at a time for me!

      @@WindowsillNepenthes I always wonder how people get the plants to keep all the pitchers. I’ve lost some due to Autumn, but shockingly, they are still producing pitchers-without sunlight!

      I’ve heard you’re not supposed to fertilize through the soil 🤷🏻‍♂️ maybe this could be why?

    Bonjour !
    Trop bien la video
    Mais j'ai juste pas super bien compris si cela permettra a la plante de mieux pousser
    Ou c'est juste esthétique ?
    Merci 😀

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bonjour :)
      Je pense que c'est principalement esthétique car un peu de sève n'ira plus dans les parties coupées, mais ces parties coupées n'apporteront plus d'énergie à la plante.
      Par contre, le fait d'avoir une belle plante est bon pour le moral! ;)

    do new leaves ever form back on the bottom? i cut some old leaves off my nepenthes and now it's kinda bald down there

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No leaf will grow back, but new dormant node can activate and start a new vine from the side on the old 'bald' vine. And your plant may also create a basal shot, meaning a brand new small plant from the roots.
