Hello from Montana! I'm currently growing my alatas in nursery pots inside coffee mugs with a string to collect water inside the coffee mug. Hoping the experiment works 😁
was this a closed terrarium? how did you deal with rot and mold (did you have a clean up crew in there)? Also how often do you had to water it? I got the exact same jar and I have just received 3x nepenthes bellii and i plan on doing this!
The jar was protected from direct sunlight, watered only when needed looking at the bottom of the jar. No clean crew but some springtail manage to come. The jar was open all the time.
Short terms yes. But Dionaea needs to rest in a cold place for winter. It's a temperate species. Nepenthes are tropical species so they want to stay warm year round.
I found some mosquito larvae in my N. briggsiana... So I watered it with 50:50 Coffee & Rainwater. As a consequence the larvae died in between a day :)) But I consider repotting into new substrate too, when a new can is open. I chose 50:50 spaghnum & perlite
@@WindowsillNepenthes No, larvae in the substrate... I think the English Name for them is sciarid gnats. They eat the roots of my Nepenthes and that's not okay :)) But watering with coffee seems to work quite well. I get one new yellowish Leave because of the larvae and I don't overwater... I don't really have an water tray but an big huminity tray with puffed clay
@@WindowsillNepenthes Thank you! I don‘t really know about my substrate but as I said I will soon change it to Spaghnum & Perlite Briggsiana ist an awesome plant! So red and such an nice peristome…
There is 2 reason for not pitchering" light or humidity. If your light is good, then you can raise the humidity, possibly doing the Jar technic, just make sure it's very drained, especially at the bottom. and let it dry before watering it again. (but you can spray) How many humidity do you have? Is the light good enough?
You have the patience of a saint! I would have smashed the jar, made a mess and then regretted it :'D
Another great video. Thank you.
Haha, I have to confess I was afraid to breaking most of the roots!
@@WindowsillNepenthes That is understandable. It is lovely how much you care for your plant-babies
I will be honest. I never follow and comment this much until now. You're content is perfect.
Thanks a lot :)
Doing my best.
Yes sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind....but it was the right thing in the long run. I agree. Look forward to your update thanks.
Absolutely!
And I can tell the plant not even slow down so cross finger
On my I put rocks first a mesh filter and then the substrate. Love your videos
I have no doubt your plant will be fine. Oh, another Brad's Greenhouse order. Love his stuff. I look forward to it.
Thanks!
By the way, the next unboxing will be for next week and it's from other growers this time ;)
@@WindowsillNepenthes Oh good! I just got some nepenthes today. Two from Carnivero and one from Native Exotics.
If he shipped out of Canada, I'd have bought a few plants from him
@@jasonluke6364 Just like the US. productor like Red Leaf, Carnivero, Predatory etc...
So many choices in the US but no one ship to CA. ;)

Interesting way of watering! Let me know how it works in few weeks ;)

Nice video again. Could you maybe do a video about inorganic potting media? Thanks!
Thanks!
If I get some inorganic media one day, I will. ;)
Nice video Rémy ;)
I wonder how he will fare.
Now that the plant is out the biscuit jar.
I can already tell you that it skipped 1 pitcher and now it's growing nicely again :)
@@WindowsillNepenthes I'm glad the plant is doing well :)
I always regret when a plant dies.
It happened once when I repotted a bonsai rosemary.
@@davidjobe9876 I know that feeling ;)
Can I grow a Nepenthes and a Venus Fly Trap in the same cookie jar or are incompatible?
Short terms yes. But Dionaea needs to rest in a cold place for winter. It's a temperate species. Nepenthes are tropical species so they want to stay warm year round.
Do you have Fly traps, or cobra heads? I need help with those!
These species need winter dormancy and since I grow inside year round, I don't have them, sorry.

Mosquito larvae in the water tray?
Does the pot stay into water without ever drying totally?

@@nicotammler9701 All I know is that Fungus Gnats love soggy peat but the more drainage you will have the less they will stay.

@@nicotammler9701 I know! I want this species lol
Sphanum/Perlite will be great.
Great Videos, very helpful! Could you make a Video about how you turn dead Spagnum moos alive?
Only God can revive...
Dead sphagnum will stay dead, but sometime some spores are still alive and can grow, but it's a lucky shot, not.a technic... ;)
My Helen these is doing quite well, however no pitchers.
Help, do I need to try this?

reguarding the type of nepenthies does this only involve lowlanders or could this be translated to highlanders?
I never tried but I guess it would works if the temperature is good
Use water....
Didn't wanted to add stress to the plant, but later I will.
Since I'm from a Tropical climate , if I put my nep. inside a glass jar it will literally become mashed nep. soup lol
For sure! It's for people that need more humidity ;)
If it was in a plastic container you could have just cut it
