I don’t usually comment but I felt that the review was biased towards cx9. I drive a 2019 cx5 and have the seat belt warning issues. The customer service at Mazda showrooms is very poor with minor niggling issues which service center don’t bother to fix.
G'day Naren, I'm sorry that was your perception, but the CX-9 edged ahead based on our criteria. We're the first to admit that your criteria is likely different! Your service experience doesn't sound right at all. Have you tried approaching Mazda Australia customer service directly? In my experience this can overcome any challenges posed by specific dealers. Cheers, Mal Flynn
Mal, you forgot to mention that the petrol variant in the Hyundai is not an AWD, to get the AWD you have to go for the diesel variant. The CX9 you tested is AWD Cheers Mal
CX9 for me. Stylish, refined, has aged really well. Between the 2 both companies have approached it from a different angle - Hyundai size, box shape, Mazda style , finesse and quality
7:12 The Palisade infotainment screen looks very 2021? But your TH-cam title says it's a 2022? It sure looks like a 2021 model to me. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The 2021 Palisade is a great SUV for the price. However if you can wait a few months, the 2022 model should have that full digital dash they have in the US, plus a few other features in the US model that went missing in Aus.
Fan of both the SUV's but I will still choose Pallisade due to its boxy design and road presence, through this video CX9 was very dark inside even with sunroof was open where as Pallisade had no sunroof but still was very open with full day light and oriented which stop the travel sickness for 2nd and 3rd row passengers and I am sure Pallisade will look as good as CX9 with Burgundy leather seats than boot space is more in Pallisade with all 3 rows up so you dont have to put roof rack when go out with 7-8 passengers.... and its 8 grand cheap which help to pay rego for next 8 years ;)

Why would you buy the Petrol V6 variant of the Palisade? This style of V6's are dinosaurs. You would absolutely go the 2.2L Diesel variant. CX-9 doesn't have a diesel option which I think is odd for a large family car geared towards road trips. This was the deciding factor for us in buying the Palisade because if you compare fuel efficiency of the Diesel Palisade and Petrol CX-9 then the Hyundai will obviously come out on top. I think this was a big miss on the review.
I had a Mazda 2 gearbox let go on me but I'd still pick the CX9 as I just can't go the looks of the Palisade (not that I am in the market for such a large vehicle).
Currently driving a CX-7 and watched this video to choose the next upgrade. Seems to me it is pretty biased towards CX-9. Why can't you compare similar variants of the two cars? Also, should have discussed the diesel variants. Poor review.
Nice review, while I agree Mazda does a fantasic job with the premium feel. It's definetly let down by it ergonomics and use of space. The Palisade 2.2 Diesel would win hands down in this comparison. Little things in the Mazda would annoy me... I dont like how the climate controls sit below the gear selector. For such a big car is looks small inside.
This review was very bias! Mazda was compared with 3rd row seats folded, ps I know she showed both at the end, but still it was inclining to Mazda from start. 2nd row her toes were hitting the front seat and the back was reclined for Mazda, for Hyundai back was straight and she still had a lot of room. Also, you can't put 7 adults in cx9 for more than 20 minutes. Its claustrophobic and very tight. Many more to be pointed out.
I think the comment about the cx-9 also having plenty of headroom in the middle row is a joke, she is 5ft 3in and her head has about 4in of window still showing in the palisade, plus the top… and in the cx-9 her head was well past the top of the window. I think even me at 6ft 1in, my head would be touching the roof in the cx-9.
Doesn't feel like an apple to apple comparison. You have a sweet lady sitting on red seats and black wheels with a huge sunroof. Did you think the Palisade would win?
It was actually pretty close Albert, and we freely admit these two variants don't align as well as they could. But all of their differences, not least their $8k price differential, were considered against our standard criteria before the Mazda edged ahead. Cheers for watching and taking the time to comment, Mal Flynn
Front of the Mazda is more attractive but rear of Hyundai is better looking. More value in the Hyundai interior but its center console is one spilled drink away from electronics disaster and that thumbprint scanner shifter contraption is ridiculous. Mazda interior while more aesthetically coherent is in sore need of a pano sunroof option and something more fuel efficient than that tired 6-speed auto. Which to choose.
That overpriced mazda can’t compete with the palisade. Not even a touch screen, in a touch screen world. The palisade feels more luxury and it’s features where not well reviewed here. The thing is being compared with bmw, audi, mb, volvo, cadillac and there is no other SUV that can claim to have so much to offer for half the money. Highlander, honda pilot or any ford or chevy in it’s class, pack enough to even complete.
@@carsguide my opinion comes from consumer end , I think palisade looks more contemporary specially in terms of interior design and looks more roomy , (Perhaps the sleek mid console ) I have been checking out large family size SUVs as we are a family of 5 and looking to upgrade in few weeks time( however delivery wait time is crazy for majority of brands), however I appreciate your reply.
What a ridiculous comment to make, at least they have designed multiple vehicles the same without changing them and making them look as ugly as what Hyundai and Kia have done. I think Mazda is very uniqus as well all the other Japanese cars. There's a lot of things Hyundai and Kia are doing wrong and that's changing there design, Japanese cars have never changed there looks and will never be beaten by Korean car makers.
G'day Bonny, thanks for watching as always. I'm afraid any similarity with other outlets is coincidental. I'm yet to check out one of their comparisons, but if similar, great minds! @Joel Bowden Spot on Joel, and thanks for your consideration. We can get the cars, but we're not able to test them to our standards. So this vid is an example of two existing full-scale tests combined. We'll be out and about doing our usual thing ASAP though! Cheers, Mal Flynn
Styling is very subjective. Personally I think the CX9 is one of the ugliest vehicles on the road and I like boxy vehicles. Though the Palisade has a grill that only a mother could love. However, more importantly; the engine is go for in the Palisade is the diesel which wasn't even mentioned in the review.
