Genius brotha..I ruined a brand new tube yesterday, so today, went to my tyre shop and motorcycle shop and neither of them wud touch it, they had tried and failed previously...
So appriciate this video..This cud be a great business for someone here in Los Angeles.❤❤🙏🙏
7:45 💪🏾🙌🏾😂 love it, that’s what he said ❤💪🏾, earned a follow 🤟🏾
When installing a new tube in a bike tire, I usually partially inflate the tube before re-seating the tire. It makes it much easier to keep the tube in place and ensure correct positioning.
maybe. these scooter tires are so stiff it's different than a normal tire.
ridiculous how difficult this project was but your video put me in the right direction. learned a life lesson with this one: research into how easy/difficult the repairs are on any bike/car/scooter etc in the future before pruchase
I think they do this so you buy a new scooter instead of a wheel.
@@jordach545consumerism at its finest.
I like my scooter but then the rear tire just popped. I wasn't expecting this just after three months. Now I've learn about solid tire options instead of tubbing so this is what I would be comparing when shopping for another scooter.
@@jordach545 honestly I switched to airless and i will never go back. I had to do this one more time back in June and it has been a pleasure riding to work.
I got the vice grips and they helped alot. I also got some 11 inch motorcycle tire lever spoons and ( four ) 2 inch c-clamps at Harbor Freight. The right tools really make the difference on this tough job. Thanks for the video.
and SOAPY WATER.
You could've bought a rim-on wheel for that though lol.
Wow! The visegrips really helped!!! Thanks for the video!!!
thanks. you canadians are super helpful! going to replace my first puncture ever in 3 years
good luck - it's harder than it looks.
@@gregs_garage oh ya i know, i own a few diff scooters. Been dreading this tire change since last summer
At the beginning I thought I could order the inner tub and by watching a video, I could change my scooter's tire myself but just hearing that ppl spend so much hours trying to fit the tire, plus heat gun and I dont have the holding rack, I'll just pay the $25.00 to have it change once the part comes in. I also learned from the bike shop, I could switch out to a solid rubber tire. I'll decide once I compare. I like the idea of being my own handy person but spoons and possibly having a pinch is too daunting. So, thanks for sharing. Lol. Then there are the vice grips. Nope, it's a shop job. Much appreciate. Stay safe.
yes 25.00 is a good deal. I also have another scooter with the solid rubber tire. It was hard to fit as well, but when warmed up in hot water it slipped on after a lot of effort. The ride on the solid tire is bumpier than the tube tire. I would only use the solid tire on the back wheel. The front would be too rough.
The problem is that the front tire for the gotrax has the wiring harness and the electric motor inside of the front wheel. That entire assembly + the tire is about $150 bucks on Amazon. The scooter itself barely costs that much. 😒
Vice grips are a game changer. Just had one pair and it turned this from impossible to almost easy! Thank you!
One pair like 1 or 2 vice grips?
@@gregs_garage 1 vice grip and a bike tire iron. The vice grip helps keep a fixed point on the tire behind the rim, then you can just work your way along the tire. Dish soap helps for lubrication.
@@ericpauley5246 wow, a pair only 1. like a pair of panties, but just 1 bra. hmm. I couldn't do it with less than 3 vice grips.
So helpful thanks
at last someone who provides a solution. thanks
Greg's concept here is perfectly realized and this worked so well I was stunned. I did use silicone grease since i had a bunch. 3 vise grips and a vice is the correct way to do this.
Nice. A like from the creator.
I'll tell you what else I like: not being defeated by a scooter tire. And then riding the scooter afterwards idk
Hair dryer worked to loosen the rubber + a little grease. Thanks
Cool man, well done. F this sh, tough as hell! My experience- punctured tube, scratched as hell rim… 😅
yes, it is not easy
This is ridiculous that you have to do all this to get it back on. The #Gotrax video skips this entire process. I’m scouring TH-cam for real help. Thanks for this video
youtube won't put your tire on for you. Try it yourself and you'll see...
@@gregs_garage your video help me get the tire on. I’m back on the street. Thanks!
Tip for you.I made a little jig from 40 mm box section about 100mm long.Drill a 6mm hole right through.Drill the 6mm hole larger at one end to accomodate wheel axle.Put a 6mm set screw through hole locking it in place with a nut.Clamp the box section in vice and spin the wheel onto end of screw. You now have a good solid base to work on.
P.s. Yeah get yourself some decent tyre irons!!
A picture is worth a thousand words. Make a video.
@@gregs_garage If I could post pictures I would. Not got a decent camera to record but I might give it a go.
After watching this, I now like my split rims. Very easy to get tire and tube on. That tire there looks impossible to fix on the trail.
Without tools and a vice good luck. It’s hard to do in a well equipped shop
Some bicycle tire irons would make that last step easier!
yeah maybe. still very stiff.
7:45 - I found it so funny when he swore. He seemed like such a wholesome family man so that was very abrupt to me 😂.
Wait is it possible to use a 10 inch tire instead of the suggested 8.5 sized tire?
no
No it will be far to big lol it gives you a size for a reason
Put the new tires in the oven for a few minutes get them nice & warm & you will save yourself a half hr
how wide can the vice grip open up?
wide enough to do this tire. These are standard 7-inch vice grips
@@gregs_garage Is it 2 inch wide? Thanks
You could it make tubeless and less headaches..
I have been trying for hours and blowing the inner tube 3 times in a row. Really this tire change sucks!!
Using two pliers 60 degrees apart is helpful, but Vaseline and plastic clips are just as effective.
Put tyre in hot water boil for 5 mins =soft tyre works like putty but be careful hot plus cools down quick but nice easy
why not just use thicker zip ties instead of vice grips?
anythings possible
It's a skinny tire try putting on my tires
Harbor freight tire changer.
Use wd40 too....works better than soapy water.
There's got to be an easier way.
They are stiff! Make a video of an easier way please
@@gregs_garage take it to a tire shop.
@@greggthunderburg7294 take the easy way out.
@@greggthunderburg7294 took my tire to bike shop they couldn't do it
Soapy water and Google how to bar on a tire. This is close but you can bar this on in 2 minutes
Hot water for 15minutes
I’ll try the hot water next time
Flexible tires are crappy see you when you like wipe out on them
Like totally
Lol You’ll be banging your head against the wall. Just pay someone trust me it’s not worth the stress
don't get defeated by a scooter tire. But yes this is beyond most riders to fix. You need lots of tools, clamps, etc, and a mechanical aptitude to do it.
Washing up liquid around the bead and you'll thank me later! Makes it almost effortless
I don’t know what “washing up liquid” is
I use 3 zip ties and liquid soap and i put the tire on with my bare hands. You ruined your rim with that screwdriver.
Baloney
@@gregs_garage I am not joking. I put it on with hands with procedure as I mentioned. For taking it off I used screwdriver but I put duct tape on edge of the rim so I dont scratch the edge.
