Sir, you have just saved my sanity. I got one of these second hand and fully assembled and was going crazy for almost an hour trying to figure out how to get the blades off. Many minutes and 2 people later, I happened upon this video. Bam. Blades off in seconds. Sanity restored. Thank you.
Great video! A couple of suggestions to help with the installation. We installed the fan brackets to the fan motor before hanging the motor to the ceiling. This eliminated some overhead work which makes my neck hurt. We were able to wire the fan and light to separate wall switches by connecting the blue wire (light) to the red wire from the switch and connecting the black wire (fan) to the black wire from the switch. The instructions do not cover that situation. Thanks for the video!
Best video for ceiling fan installation .. i put everything up to the fan motor, turned on the power, tested the fan and it would not spin, and then i remembered your instructions to remove the fan stoppers (i did not see this step in the instructions, so watched that part of your video and got the fan working, attached fan blades, and tested again, works great. Thanks for taking the time to make this video, would have been a much more difficult job, for me!!
just installed this fan in the oil rubbed bronze finish in my dining room and wishing I'd seen this video first. It took me about fifteen minutes to find out about the slot in the switch housing for easy attachment of the blade arms. I also installed a Lyndhurst ceiling fan in the oil rubbed bronze finish in my kitchen the same day. I honestly don't know which one I like more both are awesome, quite, powerful fans. Thanks for the videos on the insulation of both fans.

Thanks, your helpful video is most excellent. I installed the fan correctly without electrocuting myself. I turned your video off and on a dozen times working through the steps. You rock!

Does anyone know the trick to disconnecting the two connectors leading to the light kit? You can see the white and blue "FOR LIGHT" connectors with white collars in the housing at the 9:30 mark. I need to redo the wiring above the motor housing, and for the life of me I can't get the damn things to come loose. There has to be a trick to it that I don't see.
The only trick we know of is to cut the connector off. We're not sure what type of wiring mods you are making, but we'd suggest calling Hampton Bay customer service before doing anything to make sure you don't void the warranty.
Super helpful video thank you so much, DO you know how to make the light work from the switch, our home had a red wire that was extra. We want to turn the light on from the switch. Any videos you have on this? Thank you again
Thanks for watching! Let me just get a disclaimer out of the way - i am not a licensed electrician, and you should always consult with a licensed electrician if you have wiring questions. That being said, if you have a red wire in the ceiling, chances are it is the wall switch wire. You would just need to connect the fan's blue wire (light power) to the red wire from the house. That should let you control the light from the switch. You will need to turn the light on using the pull chain initially, but then the wall switch would turn the light on/off after that.
Fan wires look silvery in color so they are either aluminum or copper clad aluminum, should you not be using the purple alumincon connectors to avoid dissimilar metal corrosion?
I have an extra red wire in the ceiling that I'm not sure what to do with. I've followed all the steps you showed, which were extremely helpful, but the fan or light does not turn on. Your help is appreciated!
Hi Shane. Let me start by saying that ** I am not a licensed electrician, and if you have wiring issues, you may need to consult a licensed electrician. ** That being said, typically, a red wire in the ceiling is a wall switch wire. You can try wiring the fan's black and blue wires to the red wire. That should let you turn the fan & light on and off using the switch. If you have wired the fan fan's black and blue wire to the house Black wire, that should give your fan constant power and allow you to control it with the pull chains. The house black wire is typically the constant hot wire. If that doesn't help, I would suggest calling Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-HD-Hampton and they should be able to help you trouble shoot. I would also make sure that the wire connections did not loosen or disconnect during installation.
Hello, first let me say that this video is absolutely amazing. My issue is the same as the above stated. I also have the additional red house wire and I'm not sure what to do with it. Are you suggesting that I connect the fans blue and black wires to the house red and black wire? I know you stated that you are not an electrician but any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Benjamin. Thanks for the nice comment. So as you know, I am not a licensed electrician, and you should consult with a licensed electrician (for safety). That being said, typically a red wire is a wall switch wire. So you have 3 options of wire connections. 1. Fan black and blue wire to the house black (hot) wire. The house black wire is usually a constant power wire. (and use a wire nut to cap the red wire). Connecting the fan's black and blue wires to the house black would let you control the fan and light with the pull chains. or 2. Connect the fan's black wire to house black wire, and the fan's blue wire to the house red wire (switch wire). This way would allow you to turn the fan's light on/off with the wall switch. So, you would initially turn the light on using the pull chain, and then you'd be able to turn the light on/off with the wall switch. Or 3. Connect the fan's black and blue wires to the house red wire and cap off the house black wire. This would allow you to turn the fan and light on/off using the wall switch - you would have to turn the switch on and then set the fan's speeds and light using the pull chains - once the fan's speed is set you could turn the fan off with the wall switch and next time the switch is turned on, the fan should return to the last speed it was set to. DO NOT CONNECT THE HOUSE BLACK AND RED WIRE - THOSE 2 WIRES SHOULD NEVER TOUCH EACH OTHER. Hope this helps out!

Yes this helped tremendously!!! I actually did some research as well and was instructed in the same manner... So I wound up connecting the blue and red wire, black to black and white to white... Everything worked like a charm and my Mother (who I was installing the fan for as a surprise) is so pleased... Thank you again for this AWESOME video!!!
Great video!!! Very clear step by step instructions. There's only one little issue I was wondering if you can clear it up for me. When the ceiling fan was finally installed, I turned it on and it started making a little crackling sound for a couple of seconds then the sound stopped. Same thing when I changed the speed. Is that normal in the beginning?
Thanks for watching. A little fan noise is not uncommon for a brand new fan. Sometimes, the parts just need to run for a bit to settle. If the noise continues to be an issue, i would just double check that all the parts are connected correctly and that all of the pieces are completely tightened. If the noise continues, I would suggest calling the Hampton Bay customer service team. They are pretty good at troubleshooting over the phone and can often resolve an issue that may have been overlooked.
"the ball slot engaging the tab in seating" @ 6:20. ... @6:29 it appears as if the ball slot is not moving. Yet as soon as mine is "engaged" the downrod assembly can swivel and move around as much as it wants. As far as I can tell there's a slot in the downrod ball, and there's a tab in the mounting... But these two things do absolutely nothing for my fan since the entire fan motor assembly can swivel all the way up and hit the ceiling. I don't understand this at all
Thanks for watching. Yes, when the slot is engaged on the tab in the mounting bracket, the fan can still swivel, but it can not rotate or turn in the mounting bracket. The swivel is for installation on a sloped ceiling. Once the fan is hung, gravity will do its job in keeping the fan stationary. The important thing is that the slot is seated on the tab to prevent the fan from rotating during use which could lead to wire becoming tangled or disconnected. The slot and tab also help to prevent fan wobble. Hope this helps to clarify.
Excellent Video. I have separate switches as well. However, one of them is a High, Med, Low, and Off speed controller. The safety information page shows a warning not to use a "Solid State fan speed Controller device." I see these everywhere so I'm wondering why this fan says not to use one. Any ideas?
Thanks for watching! I think this is referring to dimmer style speed controls. A variable wall control should be fine. You just have to make sure the fan is set to high speed with the chain before using the wall control.
@@chefbambu9382 the fan shouldn't have any play when properly installed. If your fan is able to move at the base when not running, it sounds like the outlet box may be loose or something else is not tightened completely.
I don't have a copper wire coming from the house, but there is a green wire coming from the fan and another one from the bracket. Do I connect them? Since I don't have copper wire, would that be an issue?
You can connect the blue wire (light wire) to one of the switch wires, and the black wire (fan speed power) to the other switch wire. If you're not sure about your wiring, we would suggest calling a licensed electrician.
We have to say that we are not electricians, and for any wiring issues that are different from the ones in this video, we suggest calling a licensed electrician to make sure the wiring is connected correctly. That being said, if you have an extra white wire, you should be able to cap one off and connect the other wiring as described in the video. Again, contact a licensed electrician if you're not sure. We really can't advise without actually being there to see what's what as far as the wiring goes. Sorry.
We did this. The fan switch works. For the light, we connected the white to white, and blue with black wire. Switched the light switch, light does not come on. Did we miss a step?
We would suggest double chekcing the wiring from the fan to the house wires. They can sometimes disconnect during the installation process. The fan black wire and fan blue wire should be connected to the house black. If you are connecting to a wall switch, the house will typically have a red wire (switch wire). We are not licensed electricians and if you are not sure about the wiring, we would suggest contacting a licensed electrician. You can also call Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-434-2678. Their team is pretty good at troubleshooting. Please let us know what happens.
Thank you for your question. Let me start by saying that ** I AM NOT A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN AND YOU SHOULD CONSULT WITH A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF THE HOUSE WIRING ** The Gray wire is probably the house constant supply. The Red wire is probably the wall switch wire. You should use an AC voltage detector to figure out which wire is constant and which wire is the switch. Typically red wires are switch wires, so you should be able to connect the fan's black wire to the gray wire (hopefully just a faded black wire) and then connect the fan's blue wire to the red wire. That would allow you to turn the fan light on/off using the wall switch. Then, you would connect fan white to house white (neutral) and fan green wires to house bare copper wire (ground wires). You could also just cap the gray wire with an electric nut and some electrical tape and connect both the fan's black and blue wires to the house red wire. that would let you turn the fan and light on/off using the switch. This is usually best for people that like to keep the fan at one speed. You would still be able to change the fan's speed using the pull chain. Hope this helps!
Let me start by saying the **we are not licensed electricians, and if you have different wiring than what is included in the manual, you should consult with a licensed electrician to make sure the wiring is connected correctly** . That being said, a red wire from the ceiling is typically the switch wire. If that is the case, you can connect the fan's black wire (power wire) to the house black wire and the fan's blue wire (light power) to the red or pink switch wire. This would allow you to use the wall switch to turn the light on/off.
Thanks for the question. I would suggest contacting a licensed electrician. I am not a licensed electrician, so i can only give a guess as to your wiring situation. I would guess that one o the black wires may connect to a light switch, or may be a ground wire with insulation on it. The house wiring should include a bare copper wire. The only way to know for sure would be to have an electrician come out and test the lines. The electrician would also be able to advise how to ground the wiring if there is no ground wire present. Sorry, I know that's not much help.
The fan as packaged is not smart. There is a universal Wifi remote that can be added to make it "smart" see this link - th-cam.com/video/1jRqtwj1xu8/w-d-xo.html
To use a light switch, you would need to connect the fan's blue wire to the light switch wire (typically a red wire) instead of the house black wire. We are not licensed electricians and only cover the standard installation as described in the manual. Once wired to the switch wire, the fan's light would need to be set to "On" before the switch would take over control.
**IF YOU'RE NOT SURE ABOUT WIRING, CONTACT A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN** Ok, that being said, the red wire is typically a wall switch wire. If that is the case, you have 3 choices - 1. Cap the house red wire and connect the fan's black and blue wires to the house black wire. Connecting the wires this way, disables the wall switch and allows for control of the fan via the pull chains. Option 2 - Cap the house black wire and connect the fan's black and blue wires to the red wire. This option would enable the wall switch to turn the fan and light on/off at the same time. Option 3 - Connect the fan's black wire to the house black wire and the fan's blue wire to the house red wire. This option would allow you to turn just the light on/off with the wall switch. Again, if you're not sure about the wiring, we would suggest contacting a licensed electrician.
Hi shane we just followed your video and installed the fan. But... the fan doesn't work. The light does. There was a red wire coming out of the ceiling that was not in your video. So we did not attach it to anything. Is that the problem? If so where do we attach the red wire? Thanks!
Hi Victoria62056. Let me start by saying that *** I AM NOT A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN AND IF YOU ARE HAVING ELECTRICITY ISSUES, YOU SHOULD CONTACT A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN*** Now with that out of the way, I would suggest checking your wiring. Sounds like the fan's black wire might not be connected. The fan's light wire is blue and should be connected to the house black wire, and it sounds like that's what you did since the light works. If the fan's black wire isn't connected to the house black wire, or became loose during installation, that would be the reason for the fan to not work. Since the light works, we know that the fan's light is getting power. The red wire in the ceiling is typically connected to a wall switch. You have the option to connect the fan's light wire (blue wire) to the house red wire which would let you turn the light on and off with the wall switch. The fan's black wire is the motor power wire and should be connected to the house black wire. The standard wiring method is to connect the fan's blue and black wire to the house black wire so that both the fan and light have a constant power source and can be controlled with the pull chains. Hope that helps. If not, I would suggest you call Hampton Bay customer service - they are pretty good at troubleshooting and should be able to get your fan running.
Thanks so much for the video and the tips! Thanks to you we were able to install our fan on our own and is now working properly. We didn't have the red cord attached to anything.
We would suggest checking the light connection. Check that the wires from the light kit to the fan are connected correctly and make sure the blue wire from the fan is connected correctly to the house supply lines. If that doesn't resolve the issue, call Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-434-2678. Their team is pretty good at troubleshooting. If you need a replacement part, they will be able to send that as well. Good luck!
After everything is wired I have a red wire (from the house) and a white wire (from the house) from the fan assembly I just have the white wire. This is a trailer I'm hooking it up to
The White house wire should be connected to the white fan wire. Typically a red wire in the ceiling is a switch wire. If that is the case, you have a couple of options. You can either cap off the red house wire with an electrical nut and electrical tape, or you can connect the fan's blue wire (light power) to the red wire. That would allow you to use the switch to turn the light on/off. You could also cap off the house black wire and connect the fan's black and blue wires to the red wire. This would allow you to turn the fan and light on/off simultaneously. If you are not sure about wiring, we would suggest calling a licensed electrician to make sure the wiring is connected correctly.
Yes, our light kit is stable at high speed. i would suggest making sure that the switch cap is tightened completely, and also make sure that he compression ring holding the light kit are tight as well. Make sure not to over-tighten the compression rings, but they should be hand tight and snug to prevent vibration.
I always have to say that ** I am not a licensed electrician, and if your house wiring differs from the video, you should consult with a licensed electrician.** That being said, if your house has 4 wires instead of three - there is probably a wire for a wall switch. If you house wires are bare copper, white, black , and red - the red wire is typically the wall switch wire. MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF BEFORE HANDLING WIRES. You can either just cap that wire with an electric nut and tape, or you can wire your fan to the red wire (instead of black) to allow you to turn the fan and light on/off with the wall switch. If you want to use the wall switch for the light control only, you can wire the fan as follows: green wires to house bare copper wire, Fan's white wire to house white wire, fan's black wire 9fan power wire) to house black wire, fan's blue wire (light wire) to house red wire. Hope this helps!

Very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
How do you install the flush mount tho?
Did you ever figure it out? I'm having the same issue any suggestions? Thanks
Thanks man this helped me a lot .
But these two things do absolutely nothing for my fan
since the entire fan motor assembly can swivel all the way up and hit the ceiling.
One question I have that's not covered is how much "play" does the fan have, or is it ridged with no movement of the motor/base?
My question above should have added: when the fan motor is not running, hanging still? Maybe add: how to fix?
@@chefbambu9382 the fan shouldn't have any play when properly installed. If your fan is able to move at the base when not running, it sounds like the outlet box may be loose or something else is not tightened completely.
I wish you would have made also a video installing Hamton Bay 52 inch with integrated LED Model#14600.Thanks Master!
You're the best! Thank you for the video.
Thanks for watching Jimmy! We're glad the video helped!
1 man job .I though I would need help.Great video.
Thanks for watching and glad the video helped!
Thanks so much, Video worth $100 of labor
Glad the video helped! enjoy your new fan!
I don't have a copper wire coming from the house, but there is a green wire coming from the fan and another one from the bracket. Do I connect them? Since I don't have copper wire, would that be an issue?
If you don't have a copper wire from the house, you can just connect the green wires together.
It can not be any easier
Thanks to you
Glad it was helpful!
I have two switches on my wall, one for the light, one for the fan, I don't think this wiring instruction will work?
You can connect the blue wire (light wire) to one of the switch wires, and the black wire (fan speed power) to the other switch wire. If you're not sure about your wiring, we would suggest calling a licensed electrician.
Great video. Only thing missing was wiring for dual light switches
Thank for watching. We tried to stick to standard installation.
This video kicked that ass boy!!!!
what if I have 2 white wires in the box in the ceiling ? do I connect all three together ?
Thank you!!! Saved us!!!
You're welcome, glad it helped!
what if the house wires are the bare wire, red wire, white wire, and a gray wire. how will the connection be setup for the ceiling fan?
I have a extra pink wire to another switch thats supposed to just turn on and off the lights. What wire do i connect it to?
Let me start by saying the **we are not licensed electricians, and if you have different wiring than what is included in the manual, you should consult with a licensed electrician to make sure the wiring is connected correctly** . That being said, a red wire from the ceiling is typically the switch wire. If that is the case, you can connect the fan's black wire (power wire) to the house black wire and the fan's blue wire (light power) to the red or pink switch wire. This would allow you to use the wall switch to turn the light on/off.
I enjoyed your video
Thank you for watching!
Can’t find the motor stops on the bottom of the fan. When fan is on it makes noise
I've got three wires in ceiling but two of them are black and one white so I know white to white but which one do I put the green wires into
Thanks for the question.
We are stuck we only have two wires hanging out the ceiling where do we connect the green wire too if there’s only two wires out the wall
The green wires can just be connected together.
How to install ceiling fans thank you !
@@Mindyourbusinessstalker you're welcome!
Awesome vid. The instructions suck in the box. Thanks for your help!
Thanks for watching & glad it helped! Which part of the instructions in the box gave you trouble?
Is this a smart fan or smart home compatible?
The fan as packaged is not smart. There is a universal Wifi remote that can be added to make it "smart" see this link - th-cam.com/video/1jRqtwj1xu8/w-d-xo.html
The smart remote is available at The Home Depot (online only) - model #99434
What about the turning the light on using the light switch?
To use a light switch, you would need to connect the fan's blue wire to the light switch wire (typically a red wire) instead of the house black wire. We are not licensed electricians and only cover the standard installation as described in the manual. Once wired to the switch wire, the fan's light would need to be set to "On" before the switch would take over control.
what if I have an extra red wire? connect them all with that black thingy and that blue thingy?
What do you do with the green wire attached to the mount?
As shown in the video, the green from the mounting bracket and the green from the ball/downrod connect with the bare copper house wire.
Glad it helped and more importantly, glad your fan is working now! Enjoy!!
Just finished installing and the lights wont turn on but fan blades will. Why is this happening.
Nevermind, just fixed it.
Good luck!
Thanks❤
Thank you sooooo much!!!

Hi, My fan has some vibrations in light assembly when fan is at full speed. Is your light assembly perfectly stable at highest speed?
Yes, our light kit is stable at high speed. i would suggest making sure that the switch cap is tightened completely, and also make sure that he compression ring holding the light kit are tight as well. Make sure not to over-tighten the compression rings, but they should be hand tight and snug to prevent vibration.
hi there I'm having a little trouble the wiring from house has 4 wires and your video shows 3 wires from the house
