    As someone who made one for "cheaper", I am glad I bought one of these last year. It works better than the home made and is easier to maintain. Your review last was the final nail in my purchase decision.

    I've also had my Army Painter Wet Palette for about a year now and have had no complaints. No mold or smell issues either and I haven't put any copper bits in mine. I have recently gotten the Redgrass Games Studio XL to use as my primary. I'll keep my Army Painter one to use on smaller projects and I do recommend it for those looking to just pick one up. They are readily available at your LGS which is great.

    I made my own,then bought one of these,was sat for 5months,left wet with paint in.the hydrofoam was stiff and shrunk,there was no mould at all,no smell and the foam rehydrated perfectly.cant recommend it enough.

    If it was completely air tight I would think that would be bad for the paint. As the water evaporates some of it needs to leave or else it would just over saturate the paint making it to thin. I may be completely wrong but it made sense to me.

      You are right you don't want an airtight seal.If you have that then you will get a build-up of condensation which will drip into the paint.

    I know this is a bit late but something you could do is buy the mastersons and then buy the refill packs for this or the redgrass ones. Kind of best of both worlds if you are really trying to penny pinch or already have a mastersons. I have been doing this for quite sometime. I wet ahead and bought this one later down the road when i wanted to have more than one wet palette on hand when friends come over to paint.

    Hi :) The copper in the palette… Copper and it’s alloys - brass and such - are actively, EXTREMELY ANTI bacterial. That’s why copper pipes are used for water - in ancient times it was found that water vessels made of copper NEVER went rank. The green patination of copper rooves etc., is copper ore left as the surface once weathering has happened. In recent times, hospitals in the US have made fresh use of this old knowledge and retro fitted door push panels and light switches in brass, in intensive care wards and found a huge decrease in cross infection. During the big fright period, that item was taken out of the wiki entry for “anti-bacterial properties of copper”. The effect it has is based in ionisation and dehydration at the cell level. The SCENT of copper on our hands after touching it is copper molecules, those particles stay, spread around and literally shrivel and kill any and every cell form that they come into contact with. During the big panic, I used a bit of brass plate as my hand sanitiser, as it goes on working, unlike any applied liquid! The copper won’t corrode very well in the palette, as it’s largely an anaerobic environment in there, where the coins are, so you won’t see the result of oxidation - verdigris - but be assured, that same anaerobic environment would absolutely STINK by now - and refresh itself very quickly after any cleaning - without the coins destroying the anaerobic bacteria and fungal cells that are otherwise happily breeding in there! Rub a coin over the sponge when you change paper, spread the goodness around :)

      I like mine ok. The fact that it's not air/water tight is frustrating. I have to replace the paper about every day in it because the paint is not really workable 24 hours later. But, it does keep it wet while I'm painting and reminds me what colors I need for the next day at least. Thanks for the review, man.

  • @savagex466-qt1io

    The reason why Id like one of these is because I have tried so many parchment papers and im not getting the effect that other people are. However ! Even though my paper does not soak up it still keeps my paint wet much longer then on a dry regular pallet. Plus there is a lid for it so if I needed I could put that on or fridge it. Its great that they make replaceable paper to.

      Same. I buy the parchment paper in the box, with each piece folded into quarters. I carefully tear a quarter, and then trim it to fit in my wet pallet. Easy and inexpensive (two words you don't hear often in this hobby.

    Had previously bought a Masters, but between the extra effort of boiling the paper, the fact that it seemed to dry out too easily even when closed, and it being a little too large, I just bought an Army Painter. While I haven't used it yet, I'm already happy I got it just for the smaller size as it is a better fit for my workspace. Looking forward to testing it out soon.

    • @davinci3259

      I had bought a Masters as well. I don't like the paper and considering it is meant to be usable for heavy body acrylics it probably the reason. I gave in and bought the Army Painter palette a couple months ago.

      What type of parchment paper do you buy ? Im in Canada I have tried like 6 diffrent types and I dont get the effect that these wet pallets get. They still keep paints wet longer but not as good as these. Also need pins to pin the paper or it will curle up.

    • @Chuckbreakseven
      @Chuckbreakseven ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I use Reynolds brand standard parchment paper, not sure if you can get that in Canada though. As far as edges curling get yourself a tattoo squirt bottle and you can simply reapply some water to the edges to keep those edges from drying. Also it should be noted the function of the wet pallet is to keep paint fresh for one session as over time too much water will be mixed in and will break down the paints.

    You can make a lot of things yourself cheaper. What you pay for is convenience, and to be fair, this product is convenient. Plus it doesnt feel cheap. Nice colors, nice army painter branding, nice materials. Cool that it has some space to put your brushes etc... And I live in a city apartment and unfortunately dont have a spare room as a dedicated hobby space so to have everything in this compact package is nice too.

    I liked it, for what it was, and i still use mine as my main wet palette. As shown, my only real issue is that its not air-tight, when you seal it. But, that really only kicks in if were to try to travel with it it. I'm kinda eager to see what Mini Masterwerk's wet palette is going to come out like.

    • @kitswithkaren5003
      @kitswithkaren5003 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You don't need an airtight seal.If it's airtight you will get condensation build-up which will drip into the paint.This is especially true if you put the palette in the fridge overnight.People think it must be airtight but it's not true.

    Baking parchment is hard to get in the UK, it's all that greaseproof stuff so this is defo an easy option. A little shallow as you say so the tray touches the paint so I store mine brush holder down. I can't find anywhere that shows how much water to put in it - either the paper surface is dry as a bone and the paints just dries up or its saturated and the paints falls apart. I understand that the paper is supposed to absorb water from underneath but the paper that came with the palette doesn't seem to let anything through. I don't know, seems to be another one of those things that you either know or don't!

      In one video they said, use an airbrush flow improver in the water when hydrating that should have anti-mold stuff in there.

    Good grief. The "how I use it" example must be the most needlessly specific example in history. Over 3 minutes of rambling on about metallics and airbrushing and umber and hyper highlights and spraying red over gold. Does any of that have to do with the actual wet palette?

      I get the sponge over saturated then pour out the extra. I live in a very dry area, so have to keep an eye on how dry it gets over painting sessions.

      @@spikeybitstv I'm in a high alpine desert mountain valley. Very low humidity, ultra high UV index, constantly windy. Paint dries on my brush while I'm painting. A drop of retardant in my wet pallet works wonders tho!

      you dont want water tight as the condensation builds and can drip messing up your blend. It would be good to travel with but thats it. Iv tried many. Its the paper thats the most important part. iv tried so many and i just dont get the effect this does.

      I feel like you may be new here... No one buys my opinion bro every product I talk about or use I've done so for months and or years. If you have an issue with anything I review- any of these companies I will work hard to get it resolved for you. Well except GW... they are on their own. Furthermore, in the video, I talk about how you can make one cheaper, and how there are cheaper ones out there even.
