- WHY don't I wear my Grand Seiko?
Exploring how a dream watch can tick all the boxes on paper, but simply doesn't get the wrist time. Have you found this with a dream watch? Let me know in the comments.
Model featured SBGV215, black dial 9F Quartz.

Perhaps GS was the supermodel when all you want is the girl next door.
Love it.....
Hi Paul. I bought the watch from you a few weeks ago, and you can rest assured it is getting plenty of wrist time. I couldn’t agree more with your comments about it and I can tell that it was a watch you cherished, and I will certainly do the same.
It has been quite an interesting journey as I originally saw the eBay listing and decided to do some research. And ofcourse your videos are still the only source for this 215 model online, at least in the English speaking world. So it was quite a shock when I realised the watch I was buying is the actual same watch in the videos! It is particularly gratifying to look back at the macro shot video and see it in all its glory.
Anyway thank you again for the sale and keep up the good work with the content. Intrigued to see which watches have replaced it!
Excellent. Mind it looks good on that video doesn't it. Another few weeks for replacement video. You may be surprised
My SBGP005 is en route and I’m scared to watch this video right now. But I’m gonna watch it anyway! Thanks for making it 😮
Thanks for coming along. You will likely find that Watch to be exceptional. I believe yours is a slightly larger case, 44GS lines, with greater legibility. Possibly perfect
It's a beautiful watch. Sometimes, despite reputation, looks, and what you're supposed to be thinking, a watch doesn't "make it move". It can be as simple as that, and you have to be true to yourself. Excellent explanation, thank you!
And Thank you!
New to your channel so I have no history of your search but as I've started mine I realize that my quest to leave something memorable behind for my children grows less likely as with each new watch fades the sight and memories of the previous.
Surely there's a financial gain to be had if i buy and they sell properly; however the one watch that 'dad always wore', the one regardless of value or condition they will strive to pass down shall not exist.
Good luck in your journey.
Love that. Those days may be gone with the rise of social media and watch collecting as a hobby. It's a nice thought. Maybe get them that one special watch they will remember for a big birthday. I'd never think of financial gain these days. Just buy what lifts your spirits
Thanks for sharing. If I ever decide to save for a luxury watch, a GS would be top on my wrist. Making sense of watch collecting is like trying to time the waves exactly. Looking forward to your review of the GS replacement.
Beautiful watch. I have been collecting watches for +30 years now. The one thing I know for sure is it takes about (wearing the watch) a week or so for me to learn if I bond with a watch or not.
I recently acquired a 19 y old JLC Master Control Date with 6-9-12 on the black dial. I loved the look of it, bought it online w/o ever having seen it in the flesh. You know what, it turned out to become my ultimate number 1 watch in my collection.
You did well
An interesting take. I recently picked up the similar looking SBGV223 and once I got the bracelet sizing dialed in, for me it became the perfect watch. Dressy, sporty, elegant yet subtle, it cured my watch collecting addiction because I wear it so much that I was comfortable selling off around five others that never got any wrist time anymore. I’m sure the new owner of your watch will be royally chuffed with their new piece.
Thanks for that. It's interesting, the sbgv223 and sbgp003 were both considered before this one. I went for this as the case was a 39mm and a unique shape. Maybe the 44GS case deign would suit me better. You did well to find that one great all rounder. I'm almost there with King seiko
Some wise & thoughtful words. Size preference is a personal thing, based on a variety of reasons, not just the relationship between the wrist size & the watch. Grand Seiko do make some stunning watches, that one included, but I understand where you are coming from. Looking forward to the unveiling of the new arrivals.
It's here......but a few videos down the line. Thanks for coming along once more
Got my SBGP005 recently, I think this blue dial is really something unique. Not as sihinny and poping as Rolex datejust blue dial, but catchs the light in an elegant way.
Some GS dials can be a bit too boring (Have tired a few in the shop). But I was very glade the deep blue dail in my SBGP005 is much more attractive in real life then what it looks like in Videos/photos. Quartz is perfect for Daily wear.
Good luck with you next GS!
Thanks. Funny I had thought about the SBGP range......44GS case also I think
So fascinating vid. I bought a thorn bb58 homage on a wim under £100, amazing dial but not great strap I wasn't sure but something was there. I bought an amazing ribbed dark grey NATO strap and now I can't take the watch off I surprised myself and totally love it. It's amazing what you discover and I think that's the key is a discovery process.
So true. Strap changes also renew a watch
A very thoughtful, and thought-provoking video, thanks.
Love of watches is so subjective, and can be affected by what might be seen as minor details/gripes...but we like what we like.
Personal opinion... the black lacquer dial is too simple and sterile for the watch, it lacks something to grab the eye and imagination.
There's something isn't there......thanks
That is always a tough decision to make. Just sold a sbgp017, and a sla039.
The sbgp I never wore. Not my style of watch. The sla039 didn't feel right on my wrist. I have others I enjoyed more. That one was hard for me. I wore that one at work in agriculture.
Great looking GS you sold!
Thanks. It is tough. I'm getting more ruthless, price doesn't seem to affect the decision, it all comes down to wearability and smiles per mile I think.
Out of many watches i keep on grabbing my clean factory explorer 1, 39mm. Try it before you buy the overvalued real thing. I won't though 😊
Yes.......we're easily hooked
So basically bad legibility. You might want to try The Citizen AQ1050-50L if you are into high accuracy quartz with good polished case.
I think you've nailed it. I did look at the HAQ 37mm Citizen range AQ4080 before deciding on this and forgot about them. Worth another look. Thanks
No matter how much I try to wear other watches I always go back go to the hulk … even if it’s 30 k moser or date just two tone with diamonds or a chronograph from kurunk Tokyo … no matter what it is … submariner alwyas speaks to me more
How much it will be sold in? Prix?
Already gone.
I love the watch too however I’m concerned I won’t enjoy it because it reminds me of a watch someone who wears dress shirts to breakfast, owns a luxury boat, and pays for everything by cheque. You get me?
Ha. Well it doesn't have a yacht teak dial......and I prefer cash
What about the Nivada Grenchen 3 6 9 with black dial and bracelet? Would this work for you as it’s more tool like and less dressy?
I'm looking at Nivada Grenchen. To be honest I'm happy with basic Seiko
@@perfectwrist23 which one? The SNXS79 ?
@@ThePostmillennial Sarys, Sarb..yes some of the 5s
I try not to read to much into my old watches, as have too many, to me it’s another watch, does what it’s meant to do, why did you want to pass it on when your clearly attached to it?.
It's all in the video. There are others I wear more and it could be moved on before I scuffed it
The basic watch is beautiful I just can't get over the font and logo. The whole ethos of grand Seiko design is about the natural surroundings of Japan ... Then they went with medieval European for the font 😂
Interesting
But what you are saying is it’s boring okey makes sense
Mmmm.....is that it? Possibly
Disagree, I don’t find it boring at all
