I really liked your preamble to the material things you can’t live without. Very thoughtful inclusion.

I always reallize how fast time goes by when I see your hair. It grew so long again after you cut it short. Thanks again for your good thoughts. Always a pleasure to listen. Liebe Grüße aus Süddeutschland. 😊

Thanks to your content I have downsized my stuff but still enjoy many things I do have; also moved to a place where we go out in nature almost every day!

In the past I was weighed down with photographs. I used to take hundreds of photos on my travels, and then I also inherited my grandmother's and mothers pictures. We finally saved all of them to the cloud. It took me a while to let go of the physical pictures but now I feel like a weight was lifted. Now if I can let of more things, I would be even happier.

When our father and keen photographer died 20+ years ago, my big sister and I (now 73 and 80) met to go through his many hundreds of colour slides…his preferred medium. When the first cassette went into the projector I said, “Where’s that?”. Sis said, “I was hoping you’d know that”. In the next few minutes the who’s that and where’s that questions became funny…and we stopped what we’d thought would be an all day process. No-one alive knew the people or the locations. So every slide went to the tip. The projector was rejected by Oxfam as they didn’t/don’t take electrical items so that followed the slides.
As was said in offices in times past that 98% of papers filed are never looked at again, I wonder if most inherited items stored in the Cloud will be a digital parallel. I feel that actually getting fully rid of stuff gives the best feeling of lightness..of appreciating the space resulting. Fumio Sasaki in “Goodbye, Things” asks if the deceased would have wanted people to be confused or troubled by their possessions. No…you can dispose of them guilt free.
      Interesting stuff this, isn’t it?

I completely agree with the hand knit wool socks. In the winter, knit of worsted weight wool, they keep my feet warm in the snow and ice. In the summer, fingering or lace weight wool keep my feet dry and cool.

I will always need to have 1 cast iron pan (not necessarily a specific model, but I like the one I have), 1 tarot deck, and 1 musical instrument to be happy. Of course, I need more things to survive, but these are 3 things that wouldn't be necessary to survive, but I wouldn't want to miss out on, and I'd see that I get them replaced as soon as possible, should I ever loose them.

I just recently bought a hard drive. I’ve never had one before. It’s so weird, how things that we have never had, become the ones that we can’t live without so fast. 😮 And I definitely from now on don’t want to live without my hard drive 😂

Haha, yes!! I have had one for a long time but just because I ran out of space on my laptop at 15 (I always had so many photos....) ☺️ And I think this is both funny and scarry... What if we get attached to something very expensive that we have to buy again and again?

Having all of my photos and important documents backed up gives me such peace of mind.

I’m old and for years (decades) I took my camera bag with 35mm SLR, lenses and accoutrements with me wherever I went. I had albums of photos. When I became attracted by minimalism I began to think about what that camera and my photos meant. My analysis was that they were ties to the past and I could see myself in my dotage just looking backwards. I’ve never seen myself that way. I have serial obsessions, new interests, things to pursue and learn about. So I gave all of my photographic gear to a friend. As my long term relationship was ending, I left all of those albums behind taking only a small number of personal photos. I have since thinned those out. I don’t own a laptop and my creaking iPad hasn’t had the capacity to update since 2017! I only use my iPhone. I don’t know how to “digitise” and I wouldn’t know what to do with a hard drive. Incidentally, in looking at the few photos of my two children as babies that I brought with me, I had to admit to myself I couldn’t tell which was which!
600+ books, all vinyl records, a model car collection and maybe a third of my clothes have been sold, donated or gifted and I’ve never missed a single thing. There is still more to go and I appreciate the vacated space every time.

Hello! What brand is your dehydrator?

You’ll be needing another haircut soon.
The one the hairdresser did was very flattering.
I had my hair cut a few days ago. Much shorter than it has been and the first proper hair cut since before covid. But it feels so much nicer and easier to have. There’s just less hair.
Kind of like stuff and clutter. It’s freeing.
