Man, to think of all the robots in Series 3 that had rubbish axes, then a robot like Excalibur comes along with an axe powerful enough to punch a hole in Centurion (it had some speed to it as well). Such a shame we didn't see more of it.
I think the problem with a lot of early axes was that they were quite light and relied purely on motor power or gravity to get through armour. Excalibur's axe clearly had some weight behind it along with actually launching the axe forwards which gave it enough momentum to actually punch through armour.
101 is one of those robots that is unnoteworthy but yet, simply refuses to go down. It is incredebly reliable, it keeps coming at you and acts like a wasp. it just never stops coming and you never get a chance to get your bearings, even though it has no true power in it's weapon it's aggression and relentlessness mean you never get a chance to catch your breath. If i remmeber right it went into the ring against HD and/or razor and came out the other side. That takes some doing. (might be wrong, it's been a while since i have seen it). There is something about it that just keeps on grinding away no matter what it is up against and that makes it a very tough opponent to beat. Can't be flipped and seems to escape being pinned down by just about anything. It's very well designed and has great control.
Wel dor and Centurion were almost palette swaps of each other. That extends to both going out in round 2 of this heat only to end up getting seeded (somehow) in series 4.
Hahah yeah, I think some creative licence was used with the announcements tbh. The editing team probably decided that the house robot attack on Iron Mask sucked so they cut it and just laid in the 'cease' in post.
@@ufoash440 Another possibility is scheduling. Days of filming multiple battles, maybe running longer than expected due to unforeseen delays (such as technophobic epic fire). Iron Mask is overturned and clearly out. Call cease early and make up for lost time.
@@bluehairedgirlstudio I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have counted guys out instantly like in that video, especially when fights only last 5mins max anyways. It's a BBC-run competition, they're not gonna jeopardise their reputation for fair competition like that.
Excalibur has probably one of the best axes I've seen from this early on in Robot Wars, just a pity the robot broke down. Overkill actually had a pretty decent tactic against 101. It sat and pretended to be immobilised until 101 can near, then they turned so it, ramped it up and drove it near the pit. Whether that was intentional, I don't know, but it was very close to working multiple times! Centurion was surprisingly effective, at least in terms of the front lifting prongs. It's a shame they broke down in their fight with 101.
These days a match between two rambots would be considered boring but the story behind the 101 and King B rivalry is what makes it great. I'm also proud to own a piece of King B's chassis as well. :)
The producers thought Storm II was boring because it was a pure Rambot, but I'd always thought it was AMAZING just slamming its opponents about with such power!
I hope that Iron Mask tried and failed to use it's hammer/axe weapon to self-right, and that that was cut for time for this presentation, because it was flipped onto the side on which that would have been most possible for Iron Mask, and the call for "CEASE" was immediate. That or it was coincidentally time to end the match immediately as that flip happened. Otherwise, that would be completely unfair to Iron Mask.
Thing about 101 is that I don't feel its auto spike weapon is offensive enough. What got through it all the way to Hypnodisc was being a literally Mk 4 tank to withstand heavy punishment and powerful engines which gave its mobility and therefore shoving and ramming power.
Nah excalibuir was immobile, in series 3 when a robot was seen as immobile the house robots would come in to first ram to see if the robot was stuck and if not they'd attack
@@kerberos623 he's still better than Pre-extreme matilda just because of the stupid fast skid-steer drive and the scoop. he's like someone glued shunt to growler in terms of pure drive power. meanwhile matilda got beaten up by Razer and anything else with a decent weapon (killerhurtz, dominator 2, mortis) couldve easily smashed her to bits too. her tusks were not low enough to flip and her chainsaw was useless
@@kerberos623 you dont need to know all the lore to see how stupid fast Cassius was in a straight line. almost as fast as growler. the gloves were as effective as napalm's mandibles but the sheer power of it was relentless.

101 vs King B is one of my all time favourite fights, a real dog fight, back and forth, what robot fighting's all about

At least with a rambot you have some question about whether they will win. More destructive robots you know they will and HOW! :P

Centurion & 101's fight was actually great! Shame Centurion went out, it's always been one of my favourite designs.
