    I remember going thru the time period this gentleman is talking about and feeling very frustrated with Colt. I finally gave up on them.
    This guy does excellent videos-very well informed and comes across quite well (as opposed to the egotistical guys, the yahoo’s and the cowboy types). I’m just a casual enthusiast, but I find myself riveted by the Small Arms Solutions videos. Thank you for your excellent work.

    Armalite sure benefited from Colt's self-imposed specification restrictions. From the mid 1990's on, Armalite was one of the few companies to offer true Milspec AR15 rifles. Up until Brownells recently started selling their Retro series, Armalite was the only company that had a version of the original AR10 rifle. I wonder if you can talk about Armalite some time?

    My pre-ban Colt Sporter Target is reliable and accurate. It's a great rifle and I bought it used although it looked brand new. But if I never got that surprise bonus at work, I never would have bought it- too much money.

    I had a Sporter II rifle got it at Camp Lejeune base PX I didn't like it wound up trading it to the LGS out in town for a Bushmaster XM177 A2 one I still have that Bushmaster A2 clone to this day shot the holy crap out of it when 5.56 was cheap. I believe 1,000 rnds of Norinco yellow box back then was $79. Norinco yellow box it was cheap but had a strong odor like sulphur but I could shoot a 1,000 rnds without breaking my $340.00 on the 1st or 15th of the month paycheck in the USMC back then!

    I had a Colt AR-15 Sporter in 7.62x39 Rifle. I eventually sold it because of the failure to feed issue and eventually purchased an AK-47. I also had to replace the extractor pin with a roll pin that would flex as the solid extractor pin broke.
    I am considering a purchase of a Galil in 7.62x39. I also have two Colts with the Monolithic Rail. One in 5.56 and the 2nd in 7.61x51.

    I have a Lighweight Sporter that I bought around '94, when I was ignorant about what an enemy of private gun owners Colt really is... As I collected a couple more AR type rifles over the years, I became tired of the fact that the Colt could only use it's own bolt carrier, due to the auto sear block. I eventually learned that the block is fairly easy to remove. I did it in about an hour with just a Dremel and a small cut-off wheel, and I am no gunsmith. There are videos on TH-cam detailing how to do this, if anyone is interested. Then the rifle can use standard full-auto style bolt carriers.

    Have a Colt Sporter HBAR, still had cardboard tube and muzzle cap, no box, only evidence of firing was test firing. It was the only way I could possess an AR platform in MA due to 2016 AWB reinterpretation by AG. I use the lower (slab side) for my personal rifle with a Colt M4 upper and mid length gas 14.5-pinweld barrel with Midwest industries handguard and carbine buffer and B5 stock. Figured I'd save the 20" upper the abuse.

    This is the exact same rifle I have. Heavy barrel, A2 upper and lower, and sear block. It's a shame that I cant customize the trigger and other things. It's a great rifle, and it's a great shooter, but I'm limited. Its funny because my AR says Match Target lightweight, even though it's a 20inch A2. That's alright cause I have an ak as well that's not tampered with.

    Since the most current video is on our favorite subject, the A2 clones...is there an AR-15 upper that does not have the forward assist? I guess I haven't checked Knights, because I know it isn't on the SR25.

    • @RobertQuinlan
      @RobertQuinlan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the style you want. 604/SP1 style slickside uppers with a fixed carry handle are sold by Nodak Spud, Brownells and Fulton. Flattop uppers with a case deflector but no forward assist are available from Aero Precision. An A2 fixed carry handle upper without the assist might be trickier to find. Off the top of my head, the closest you can get is a Colt LMG upper or a modified 9mm A2 upper.

  • @jonathanenglish9146
    @jonathanenglish9146 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I remember when Colt introduced the 6830 and a couple of my friends bought them. They couldn't find reliable mags (mostly chopped AK mags with AR upper portion of mag poorly welded on) and quickly got rid of them and went with a cheap Norinco MAK 90s or SKS's. I found a 6830 in 2005 for $600, it had been sitting there since 95' and nobody wanted it once they found out the caliber. I took it home and used C Product 30 round mags without a problem, after I got exchanged the solid stock for a carbine one.

    • @LuvBorderCollies
      @LuvBorderCollies 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've had a Colt 7.62x39 upper for about 17 years. Short story on C-Products 30 rd mags> I had some feeding issues like a lot of owners. Gut feeling said the springs were too weak so I pulled springs from my AK mags which noticeably improved the C-Prod mags. But there was still some room for improvement. So I installed Wolf mag springs that were even stiffer. That has been the magic key as those mags have worked perfect since. I did pick up some new 20 rd mags but don't have much shooting time with them. So far they seem pretty good and I like the shorter length.

    One of my shops has a Colt I'm confused about, the box says it's for the Expanse but the rifle is marked M4 Carbine(serial on box and rifle match). Does Colt mark the Expanse as an M4 or is it a mismarked box label? I'm curious because he's not asking stupid money for it and I don't want an Expanse.

    • @JoeyP322
      @JoeyP322 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I’ve seen and heard, the ‘Expanse’ lower is the same as Colt’s other ‘M4’ marked lowers, but the uppers aren’t made by Colt, they’re made from some other company for Colt. Colt ‘M4’ lowers go for about $400-$500, but to get an LE upper your looking at $700 +... I’d just get an LE6920 for around the $1,200 give or take... There was a video done for the expanse from SAS that explains it much better...

      Sturm Ruger & Springfield Armory are super wishy washy appeasing to the anti-gun liberals when it suits them to be so, also. Colt was in on that sh*t show sham throwing money at that stupid "Smart Gun" with the magic ring. Cut the owner's finger off, and the magic ring still works. I think Colt's main problem was making a mediocre AR, charging a premium price for it, and then wondering why no one was buying them. I have made much nicer guns from Anderson Lowers, or Aero uppers/lowers, Faxxon, FN, & other very good barrels & Faxxon BCGs.
