Your heart's in the right place, but that would be a terrible decision. They would have to start paying him for what he's giving away for free on TH-cam!
I had a buddy who sat next to a colt executive on a plane by chance while on a business trip. Interestingly enough he brought that up with him. The guy said they wanted to, but Colt just didn't have the money to make the move.
Yes, but no. There are a lot of experienced peoples in those factories. Moving away will definitely not appeal to all of them. Some will refuse to move. It's the same kind of mistake Gibson or Guild made back then. The knowledge of those peoples will never come back. In the worst case, they can also create concurrent brand that will produce better product than yours. If they move and loose all this knowledge (and money), just to make a statement, how is it different as them beeing whiny b-words ?
During the 80's, Colt had the rights to the AR-10 and completely ignored the market that was starving for that rifle. Colt also never cared about selling AR parts or concern for the civilian market needs. For some reason Colt thought if they supported the anti-gun agenda it would help their government contracts which in the end had zero effect. Colt also ignored any innovation for high capacity 9mm handguns others got rich off of.. Like our nation today, the people making the big decisions can make or brake the company or nation..Sad!
@@someguy5444 Who said Colt should clone the Glock in the 80's? The Glock was a new idea in the 80's that had not yet proven itself..The high capacity 9mm was begging to dominate and Colt had no offering or innovation to put on the market.. A high capacity STI type from Colt would have been a success if they would have had any type of innovation..In the end Colt got lazy and complacent which ended in their demise..
@@someguy5444 Too late and too little. Colt could have owned the AR market if they moved some of their manufacturing to a pro gun, low tax state, invest in newer machinery and marketed some of their AR innovations they left sitting on the shelf. Colt can't even compete in the 1911 market let alone pushing any innovation..Yes, they got lazy and complacent because of anti-gun investors, outdated unions and poor leadership...
We can blame Colt after the loss of the contracts. Their refusal to work with the civilian market and treating us civilians as a second tier customer has a great deal to their downfall.
Exactly. They were arrogant and thought they didn’t need the civilian market. Then, FN built a factory in the US and ended up with the contracts. Colt shot them selves in the foot and it was a mortal wound.
they also refused to make UK legal AR-15s ! guess what, LMT, POF, spikes tatical , lantec all continue to make UK legal AR-15s ! AR ownership is increasing here big time ! another customer base that those idiots lost
They are walking fine line trying to find balance and reason being they are in Connuckistan and their are other variables in the equation. Anytime, they do something, the political leeches in Connecticutistan takes notice and seeks more blood. Honestly, they need to move. Placating their stupid union and their business insurance and other variables will be more beneficial to them doing that.
I feel pretty luck to buy one of the last le6920s. The guy that sold it to me told me how lucky I was. It was my 1st ar and I had no idea what I wanted so went with the colt. I so glad I did.
I'm a little sad to say it, but IF Colt wanted to make money they would make a ton of production runs with retro guns and movie guns. Similar to what Brownells was doing.
Classic example of gun guys phasing out and not running the show at a company like this. You get these bean counters that come in with college degrees and zero firearm experience. Colt could be crushing it. I hope they bounce back.
They could be crushing it right now, but it's not a tragedy if they don't. Maybe it was a necessary evil for them to become something else. Only time will tell.
In Colt’s defense they saw there was a market to sell a budget product…people were buying knockoffs so colt just jumped on the bandwagon…can’t blame them for going mainstream…they still make the high quality products but they’re pricey and hard to get…
I could not agree more. Rarely at this day and age do you find someone that is a legitimate subject matter expert on anything on TH-cam when all the popular TH-camrs following and content is based off of being a personality instead of being proficient and experienced.
No. Colt still holds a Government ISO rating. And are still under the TDP. Colt still produces guns and parts for foreign countries. And for the .gov and .mil. Everyone else not named Colt, FN, Remington Defense, and the plethora of companies under that are ISO rated and OEM's for the TDP is just a pretender. There are good pretenders...And bad ones.
I just bought a Colt 6920 SOCOM 2 weeks ago for $1500. The upper and lower receiver had a big wobble. I sent it back to Colt. I think the quality has gone down. I own a Colt 6920 LE for over twelve years and that rifle has tight receivers, no wobble.
@@AE-hi9uj I bought a Colt 6960 Trooper a few months ago. Nothing wrong with it except for a barely acceptable trigger that I would have changed anyway. I tried out different firecrackers from China before landing on this Colt. Daniel Defense and Patriot Ordonnance Firearms where great stuff, but easy 1000$ more. There is nothing wrong with those guns, as long as you don't compare it to old quality stuff that always killed it in every hobby (guitars, amps, hifi, speakers, tubes, turntables, furniture, cars...).
You're EXACTLY Right about the "Dealer Direct" Crap! That's one of the reasons I gave up my FFL01 and went "Out Of Business" after 10 years In Business. It got to where the only Distributor I was able to get Product from was Zanders due to pretty much everyone else wanting you to have $250,000.00 worth of Inventory or they wouldn't deal with you.
Let us hope that CZ / Colt follows in S&W's footsteps and gets the heck out of anti-2A states. A matter of fact East Tennessee has several newly developed Business/ Industrial parks that can accommodate CZ / Colt. It's really a no brainer.....
Unfortunately democrats from those states are moving to the south for jobs! And they will vote democrat because of fake racism, climate change, etc, etc. Battery cars, throttled down thermostats, and gun control. SADLY ITS TRUE!! YOU CANT FIX STUPID
CZ has/had plans for a US factory in Little Rock, Arkansas, but the unspecified virus of unknown origin followed by the acquisition of Colt is supposedly delaying this for 3-5 years. Unlike a lot of other gun companies, CZ isn't owned by a large, diversified holding company with billions in assets. Their main business, for better or worse, is selling guns. Since that business is one that's persistently at risk of legislation disrupting it, it can be hard to line up financing for building out production facilities without large government contracts.
I'm still wondering how people think CZ will magically fix Colt as soon as the ink dries when Colt spent 60 years digging itself half way into the earth. If someone can do it, CZ can, but this will take years even without COVID and the dirt high demand for product.
As someone wise once told me; "As soon as politicians realize they can infiltrate and exploit an industry for profit there is nothing that can't be ruined over time".
I just got a Colt OEM1. Brand new, made in 2021. Has M4 Carbine on the side. Upper, barrel and extractor marked 13629. Carrier c marked and bolt is MPC marked. M4 marked in front of receiver
Fascinating! Chris is a walking Colt encyclopedia. I personally have little interest in owning one, new or old, but I appreciate the historical information. I hope CZ can turn Colt around and return them to profitability.
I inherited half a dozen colt’s from my father circa 1970 , it did got me into appreciate the engineering and versatility of the platform then came the ban and got a hold of several cmh prefix featureless and oversized trigger pins , then came the le line which I totally fell in love with , always finding a excuse to buy one on special occasions like my birth day ,Christmas, thanksgivings etc , etc even bought one at Walmart for $799 dollars back in the day ,so i ended up with 6 le prefix with all the roll marks , then the Cr thing happened, so I just needed one to compare and to maintain “tradition “ ,upon inspection found a lot of missing marks and details, but then found some new ones and cage numbers and this and that , finally went to the range and after zeroing , the Cr to my surprise was printing 2 -2.5 moa at a hundred yard with bulk ammo , so I felt I did not waste my money , and I was happy markings or no markings , so far I have purchased 3 of them and they are all shooters and consistently hit a 18x24 steel plate at 300 -400 yards . We may have lost most of the marking and have outsourced most of the parts but the performance is still there , so I am a happy colt / rosco / pathetic pony / whatever else fan boy .💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💥💥💥💥
How long before they are sold to the Mexican cartels and wind up on the streets of American cities? I'd say the Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles police will start encountering them in their cities sometime in the year 2023. 😒
Colt's new CR6920 with a price of $1000+ is still the same price as they were when Colt made all the parts themselves. Colt kept the high prices and got cheaper with the outsourced parts and just never lowered the prices on the consumers end.
It's easy to accuse them of that, but I think that the rifle they were offering in the past had more value than what they were selling them for at the time.
Could not agree more with your view. I carried a 723 in the Army , a hard core collector for 35 years but sadly have grown disgusted with the BS & the distain Colt treats their customers with. If I told you how I have been treated by Paul at the historical dept trying to get a letter for a 1911 I contracted directly from Bret at the custom shop for the 100 year anniversary you'd swear I was making it up. Talk about an iconic American company that just looks for ways to abuse their loyal customers. As much as my heart is with Colt. I don't think I would buy another one.
I bought a CR6920 in 2021 Went thru gutted it replaced all internal parts Including buffer and spring. The current Rosco Colt barrel might be next to go ! Sharps Bolt SSA-E trigger Super 42 Spring and buffer Nickle Boron WMD carrier Sad Colt was once a great name Even the New colt Python is not the same !
I own both Colt rifles, I can tell you with confidence that both are top quality. The only difference is the markings. To be honest, the new one with the Roscoe barrel is more accurate. My new one is marked 13629 on the receiver, the bolt carrier has a C on it, the rest I don't care about. My old one has all the proper markings. The quality is the same. If anything the newer one may be slightly better. It does suck that it only says carbine on the side, but then again, I really don't give a fuck.
I am getting one of these new ones tomorrow, and from the ones I have handled I am impressed. The fact that old Colts didn't have the selector stops bothered me more than anything of these changes lol. The fact that the barrel, receiver, and carrier (and from what I have seen the extractor and bolt at well) have the proper markings makes this as solid as anything. I am buying this for the typical service replica/shooter type.
I 100% agree. I also have both the CR6920 and the LE6920 with all the proper markings and I honestly think the CR6920 seems a little nicer. Better fit and finish. It has the C on the bolt carrier, a white dot and MPC marked on the bolt and the hammer is exactly the same with markings as the LE. Maybe I just got lucky and got a good one but no doubt it is definitely a quality rifle. $849 well spent.
Yep! I’m another one who bought a CR6920 and the quality is top notch!! Compared to my Chf PSA and M&p sport, the attention to detail on the colt is beyond . From the feed ramps to the trigger. Everything is tight and clean. I recently made it my duty rifle .
Just bought mine today. Mne has 13629 on my barrel and reciever and butt stock, It also has M4 on my upper receiver, Proof markings on my front sight and proper markings on my bolt carrier group. It just doesn't have M4 on the lower reciever or stating its for law enforcement on the lower... Ive owned alot of Ar15s and this is a BEAST 💪💯
I found a Colt LE6900 Light Carbine with no F/A or dust cover in January 2019. It was an unwanted orphan with no pedigree but it only cost me $450 OTD. Thank you for the video and synopsis.
I got lucky with my 6920. Date code on the barrel says it was made 3/16… Has all of the markings on the parts as they should be. It was a Magpul edition of the rifle, so it wasn’t fully milspec in that regard. But I bought it used, and by used… I mean it was sold, taken out of the box and put in a safe or closet for a year. The only thing is that it didn’t have the magazine, but Colorado may have been the cause of that, and it was missing the typically included vertical foregrip and the box. The kicker is that I got it from Cabela’s for only $600. I did change it up a bit for usability, Replaced the safety and CH with Radian alternatives, and the trigger with a Geissele SSA. I’m holding on to those original parts though. I got it to shoot just as much as I got it for the Colt name, so a little mild alteration doesn’t bother me.
@@sammuse1619 You are just being pedantic at this point… As it seems you are arguing the whole “it ain’t milspec if it ain’t select fire” thing that gets spouted around. My lower has the M4 roll mark… It’s made using the same forgings and tooling with the same process, it’s just absent a few government markings and a third hole. The barrels are likewise made from the same blanks as the military ones to the same standards, just cut a couple inches longer. Same for the rest of the components… everything is the same except for the specific differences needed to make them semi only civilian legal. That is literally the point the man is making in this video, that the rifles they made several years ago, were otherwise practically identical to the military rifles, minus the semi only bits and legal length barrel. So if you are going to argue things like semi only means not mil spec… You are just being pedantic. Everyone knows that it’s not 100% the same as a military rifle because of legality reasons.
When a company looses it's focus on quality, fails to understand its clients and looks to improve its position in the market by "cutting costs", there's only one direction it's going to go...DOWN. I understand that you are trying to be as objective and fair as possible, and I respect that; however, I have had the opportunity to inspect and fire the Colt AR offerings and they feel and look like something you would see at a local gun show DIY table. It breaks my heart, as I am a die hard Colt fan. The folks at CZ-USA should consider bringing in experts such as yourself, who love the guns and the brand, to bring back Colt to the place where it belongs. Love your channel and content!
I recently bought a Colt OEM2 from an online retailer that I won't mention. I was under the impression that these were new old stock from back when they were doing the OEM/stripped rifles. It was deceptively advertised as marked with the highly desired "m4 carbine" marking. I received it and it was just a CR6920 with the "M4 Carbine" marking, ok that's fair. What really pissed me off though was that the safety selector stop notches were machined down, however they didn't machine them completely to clean up the receiver, just little raised flat circles to rub salt in the wound for where they should be. What a disgrace, I wish I had caught it before taking it home from my dealer. Never again, I'll buy an LMT or Daniel Defense before I ever buy another Colt.
Case in point. That rifles from 2009. The national AWB ended 5 years before it was made yet the lower still has the ban restriction markings. 5 years after the ban expired. That sums up colts 'pro gun-ness' perfectly.
Proving that you have used the right material is probably the easiest step in the entire manufacturing process. You ask the supplier for a cert. When the material comes in it has a cert attached. After that you just maintain a chain of custody for that cert. The auditor or inspector comes along and says, "is this material certified as C158?" The machine operator then shows him the cert. Easy peasy
Bought my m4 carbine in June ‘21. Bolt carrier has a tiny C, barrel says M P and caliber, front sight has a B(?) marking, hammer says F3, trigger has an S and a 4, disconnecter has a C and a S, upper and carry handle have the 13629 and also have a square, no C, and also M4 on the front of the upper. Lower is typical new CR lower. So far, 1000+ rounds, half of which was Russian steel, 0 rifle malfunctions. I’m confident I can trust my life with it
One thing Colt could also do is pay LMT their monolithic patent fee and start making the 6940 series again. Would absolutely love to see a mid length Colt monolithic upper sans FSB.
Am an avid AK guy but saw the need to move on the AR-15 market a few years ago and since most of my shooting friends were building very nice rifles, I secured an LNIB M4 Carbine LE 6920 that was put up on consignment for $1,300.00. I just may keep it in its LNIB condition since Colt was bought by CZ. I have purchased a total of 30 30 round mags and am adding 20 rounders. Found an A2 grip and picked up an original detachable carry handle sight system from Gun Broker. Going to keep it in its original configuration for now! Thanks for the Colt update!
i am like you! Ak guy to the bone. but one day i was like damn i want a m4a1 slap an acog on it. maybe fn as well one day. military. I think the gucci ars are so cheesy and cheap feel compared to AK. but an M4A1 is a legend that i need.John
Never been in military, but I understand how a former military man would desire the same one they carried.. but as a outsider gun guy, I’ll stick to BCM & others, for the price.
Guess I am a lucky one as my new CR has all correct marked parts. Have been very happy with it with the exception it is roll marked carbine rather than m4.
If it had M4 marking without the correct marked parts and outsourced parts, people would say thy aren’t M4s anymore and why is Colt trying to claim they still are?
I was an Infantryman for six years, 04-10. I am also from CT, damn shame what happened with Colt. Yet you explained it well and I agree with you in this and other videos. I wanted something just as good as the M4 I carried and am extremely sad that I can't get it from Colt. Ended up going with the DD M41A. Such is life.
I have a DDMK18 on a KAC lower that I sbr'd that thing has been 100% reliable. I have about 4k on it and I've yet to have a malfunction. DD is solid. I now tell people getting their first AR to go with DD, you can trust your life to it!!
I'm ex infantry also 90-94 1/506 , 1/327 .. for the Money Palmetto State is making badass ARs if you know what to order. They even have FN hammer forged barrel options.
@@OFFICIALUND I left Colt? I never worked for them. I could care less about how the man feels about the background check system. It's the quality of his rifle/product that I'm concerned about.
@@OFFICIALUND tl;dr on that next time, thanks. Also, you assume a lot. As for the NICS it's a joke and had Mr.Daniel or Senator John Cornyn asked me I'd laugh after their pitch for the "fix" bill. Adding more shit, even if it's sprinkled with good intentions and bad ideas, to a system that is outdated and inefficient is laughable at best. For example when I picked up my DD I did not have to have a call made to NCIS. Go figure right?
On getting rid of M4 marking. Perhaps they are lowering expectations which is a smart if they have to startup idle production lines. Perhaps if things go well financially, a Mill Spec M4 will be coming out after they have a chance to work out the wrinkles. Prudent. Under promise and overdeliver is how you win customers. Over promising is how you lose them. This is survival time.
Dear Colt, give us M16s/M4s, 1911s, and Pythons that are up to snuff with the “ Colt of Old” that we all loved. You make it the quality we expect, and you put a price on it- they will sell.
I purchased a 11.5 colt upper from brownells doesn't have a m4 marking or cage code on the upper just the keyhole forge mark. I wanted the (C or cage code) for a clone build. When I called up COLT they said "Sir we cant prove that's a COLT upper" I told them its still in the blue plastic wrap and not opened it was weird they totally tried to deny it was even a COLT? I asked them if they are not marking the uppers for LE and Military and he said "YES" Now I don't wanna open it in case I wanna sell it, otherwise no one can tell its a COLT.
Colt should offer a milspec line for those purists who want all the proper markings, and a retro line as well with proper historical markings, but also offer a more budget line that at least still has the colt name on it. And your comments on their direct dealer program are spot on. Just sell your guns like a normal company and stop with this elitist nonsense.
I bought one of the new ones a few months back. Looked around and got a new one on GB for around 800 dollars. To be honest, I have ARs from Colt, Stag Arms, Springfield, Radical, Ruger and DPMS. They all seem to be of similar in quality and occupy around the 500 - 900 range.
I'm just happy I was able to get a 6940 before they started cutting corners. That rifle will likely never leave my collection unless I give it to my son.
I personally think the new colts are sub tier, around ruger, lower then new springfields. I’ve got a colt 6940 Law Enforcement only and I believe it’s possibly the best AR-15 that colt ever created. That being said, colt is just a shell of its older self. Hopefully CZ can turn it around quickly.
I would like an M4A1 SOCOM mainly because it's one of the few legal AR-15 in Maryland. Also for some reason the HK 416A5 is on the list of approved rifles in Maryland. Maybe they know it will never be released in the USA.
@@tseawell90 I guess I should clarify I would like the M4A1 SOCOM because it's one of the few factory made legal M4 looking AR-15 marked HBAR or described as heavy barrel on their product description. I know Windham Weaponry has one and I think Del-ton too. Those are the few that come to mind. IIRC I think DD had an M4A1 Block II clone for a limited run that said heavy barrel on their site a few years ago. I would have like having that one too.
The list of approved rifles in MD is a wild list for sure. If they would just make more rifles with the socom profile barrel, that would probably make more than just MD residents happy. Those barrels, even non-contracted take-offs from commercial rifles, to my knowledge, were known to be exceedingly accurate for a 14.5" barrel.
@@sir8aeriosthethird That would be great. They would still have to call them heavy profile barrel. BCM sells some SOCOM barrels but because they call them medium profile so it's a no go here. I wanted to use that to build a heavy barrel M4A1 SOCOM ish upper and a M4A1 Block II ish upper.
I found a used LE6900 for dirt cheap a few months ago and couldn't pass the offer. It came with a Factory Colt competition trigger and after putting a 3.5lbs spring in there it has THE CLEANEST break and reset I've seen on a stock gun. I've played parts roulette and its now an M16 clone, the lower is stamped "Light Carbine" even though its roughly 9 lbs.
Quality issues. We just got in 7 Colt LE6920's and every trigger pull, and this is not an exaggeration, feels like the old pull chain of closet light. Horrible.
I think out of everyone on TH-cam , you probably have the most experience with colt. As you worked there. Plus you have a wealth of knowledge. It’s unbelievable.
One of the biggest pains for DoD contracts, that we deal with, is checking exactly every so many parts, and making sure every single bit of paperwork is filled out. Sometimes we even pause the machines, if we get held up on something. So every single DoD pistol we make is that much more expensive. It's made that much more difficult by the fact that the management in charge of production completely ignores any kind of lean or rudimentary efficiency practices, which is where the immense overhead cost of our guns reflects on all our price tags.
Our foreign contracts, on the other hand, are churned out harder than anything else, and we completely ignore a bunch of vital tolerances. lol RIP India.
I have a new production FN collector and it came out of the box exactly as the ones I had in the army. Proper 14.5” barrel, 3S679 everywhere, upper, lower, barrel, bolt is properly marked, stock is properly marked. 2 “S” hammer, etc etc. I’m pleased.
I am one of the lucky ppl who bought a 14.5 socom CR6920 that has the proper markings on the upper receiver, barrel, front sight, and bcg. I paid about 1200$ for it 2017. It’s my absolute favorite gun I own.
You can still buy 14.5 SOCOMs with all the proper markings on the upper receiver, barrel, FSP, and BCG. They also have these marked as LE6920 models as of today. Also, the newly produced CR6920s are using the markings again including M4 CARBINE on the lower receiver.
I bought a M4 Socom from Colt two weeks ago that was manufactured 01/30/23. I had to send it back to colt because it was constantly double feeding and failing to feed with wolf gold and federal ammo. I keep my guns well lubed and maintained. I’m really disappointed given that it’s my first colt. Thankfully, my rifle is still under Colts 1 year warranty and I’m hoping they’ll fix it or replace it entirely. Starting to regret not getting the FN military collector M4…
If you are going for a more clone correct M4, you would still want to go with Colt since they put all the markings on the SOCOMs and don't on the FN. Also, FN has a separate production line and use different parts and steel on the civilian FN M4 than the actual military FN M4, which IMO defeats the point of FN's M4 clone offering.
The new colt cr6920 quality is on the another level if you want to compare it to your fn Chf PSA rifle or a M&p sport 2 etc.. for me the colt is bare minimum now on a rifle I would own for straight lifetime use. Colt, Bcm, DD …all these other new colt haters now but I can tell you first hand they’re rifles are the same as they’re older ones. I have a older le6920 and my cr6920 might actually have a better all around detail to it. It’s worth the money!
Everyone is crying about it like they are Springfield. If the product is great who gives a shit. “ Fuck politics, we are here now and nothing we can do about it.”
Hit that right on the head.... if Colt doesn't step up and listen to customers their legacy will be lost with the new generations of collectors and firearm owners.
I had a colt Talo a while back. It was the LE6920 colt defense model. Although it has some commercial parts, the bcg parts all have the C markings on them This particular rig is a flat top and has a Colt cheese grater up front and a pencil profile barrel and a Rogers super stock. May not be the full real deal but I sure love it. Definitely worth the $800.Shoots great...less filling.
I just bought one of the new CR6940’s and imo it’s just as good if not better than the original! Colt was outsourcing parts in the 80’s and 90’s , all companies do it. One thing I noticed on the newer one is a full auto bolt carrier, Colt never used those in the earlier ones. The fit and finish is excellent and accuracy is good. Over the years Colt put out some junk along with great guns, same as S&W or Winchester.
Colt used full auto carriers since 2009. In the 80’s and 90’s most major components were made in house. Not like today. Colt shut down major production cells. Todays guns are very different. In the fact most components are outsourced. Before most of the parts were the same as US govt parts. Now, many of the same components are outsourced and could not be used in government guns.
@@SmallArmsSolutions Yeah, before 2009 they never used them. Have a CAR from 80’s and it’s not that good. My buddy has an early 6940 and it doesn’t have the machine gun carrier. Side by side I think the current one is better. As far as govt guns, I saw what those were like in late 60’s-early 70’s, we called them Mattel’s.
A recent shipment of oem1s and oem2s made in late July have cr prefix serial numbers, but have “M4 carbine” marked lowers (rollmarked). I grabbed two of them. But the barrels are marked with “r” in addition to colt markings. The carriers are “c” etched with “mpc” bolts. Cage coded upper receivers. Hopefully this is the norm going forward.
You're on point amigo...and I thought I knew a lot about the colts...well I kind'a do, I just don't have it all memorize like you and know where all its features are at on the rifle. Good job. Last time I held a colt rifle I instinctively knew it was not the one I had in mind. It felt like a toy and after seeing that barrel-that right there told me every thigh I need it to know about it. They don't make them like the used to. I was so disappointed. There was a 6920 LE M4 Carbine with the colt stamp marking that I could have put in layaway and I didn't do it. It was selling for $999.00. Of course, it did not have for Military or Law Enforcement use only (That is jewel of all colt rifles in my opinion) but I would have settled for what I saw. And damn if I don't regret not doing it. Great video, excellent content. Oh and a side note: It's all about the brand and what it stands for. Colt to me was intrinsic -the name, the brand, the value that it holds and its uniqueness in quality and for the price you get it for and what separate the rest from its competitors. It was the weapon I used when I was in the military on guard, on post, on the flight line protecting the "birds" on SRT and even the M203. Now it's just crap.
my M16A1 in basic training was made by Harrington Richards. my "battle buddy's" M16A1 was stamped by Cadillac. there were very few actual Colts in B-2-3 in 1983. while stationed in West Germany I was issued a Colt M16A1 and a M16A1 when I got to Ft. Bragg in 1985. the A2s were being issued as I was ETSing.
I have a 2021 Colt AR15A4 The bolt carrier is marked "C" on the left side. The bolt is marked "MPC". The barrel is marked "C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7" The bolt came with white paint mark from QC. The barrel came with a yellow paint mark from QC. The lower says "Colt Defense". The rifle shoots perfectly. These rifles are Colt. They still individually inspect bolts, and barrels, whereas most other companies just do shitty batch testing.
You got lucky. You never know what you are going to get when you open a box. Yours is a Govt barrel. Is your upper a rifle or carbine? Is it a rifle or carbine barrel extension?
You might want to check the new Cr 6920..Just bought mine today and I have 13629 on my barrel, reciever and butt stock. I have M4 on my upper receiver and my front fixed sight has the proof markings along with my bolt carrier group... Im very pleased with this rifle. Thanks for the review. Id like to be able to show you photos somehow... I don't know if its just mine or maybe they are listening to the people.
I got a couple of Colt AR 15s including the 6920, 6940 and the 6940P. All of the them shot well right out of the box and only required a slight adjustment on the sights. Colt also provided a set of BUIS, two 20 round colt magazines and a cleaning kit with each gun. Some AR 15 today don't even come with any sights or magazines. It was disappointing that they stopped their production of the 6940P Piston AR 15 rather quickly.
I inspected a cr6920 last week at my shop. It had mix matched parts. F front sight, white dot on bolt, obviously carbine lower, upper 13629. So had some old parts and new parts.
Have several colt guns, but never gave a thought about markings. I buy them because they’re reliable, dependable, and well built. Never had a worry about my rifle working. As long as they maintain the quality level they have, I’ll keep buying. Great review, enjoyed watching.
The one I had wasn't reliable at all . got rid of that problematic crap. Colt service and parts treated me horrible at the time. They told me I couldn't buy parts directly through them. And before they even would talk to me they wanted the serial number. My name, Address. ??? And told me I had to send the whole rifle to them and they would put the part on ! Even though the part I needed was on the bolt carrier group.
6920 16" complete upper most of the markings are missing, no C, no F, the ejector pin retainer roll pin was smeared over from test fire. QC is definitely lower. They did replace the bolt no charge and never asked for any info other than address to send it to, so that's a plus.
Good point about Mil-spec not being better. It's more of a minimum the government will accept. Many manufacturers exceed Mil-spec with their rifles. Since Colt told the civilian consumer to basically f-off, I have no interest in their rifles.
I’m not a purist and don’t know the first thing about Colt markings. Uncle Sam gave me an M-16 in 1969 and trained me to use it. Yesterday I took delivery of a new Colt 6933. With both those rifles and the ones in between I just want (and wanted) them to work. I’m not being argumentative or disagreeing. What’s important may differ between people and their needs. The 6933 is portable and makes a great car gun. That is exactly what I wanted. I tested it and it works fine. I’m completely satisfied with my S&W AR carbine though some may think that is sacrilege.
These must be mix and match because mine has all the proper colt markings on everything. Maybe I got an early one. Bolt, extractor, etc. I'm probably 800 rounds in and so far it runs great with zero malfunctions and hold nice groups. I'm not complaining.
I have seen the same and will be hoping for my rifle to be like yours as well. Especially if it has all the proper markings and the addition of safety selector stops........what is there to complain about again?
Took a look at my CR6920 after watching this, looks like I lucked out. Everything checks out except the F on the front sight and the 13629 on the stock. I’ll take it
They no longer make M16A2 front sight blocks, therefore, since there is only one type of front sight block being made, they do not need to mark it. Since it’s only 1.
Since Colt is the only company that can commercially sell cage code marked rifles, they should run with it! The government already went to FN for the contract, but they can’t sell cage code marked rifles. What happens if Colt doesn’t get any military contracts and their out of the picture? There’s nothing to say that the government won’t go to another company to replace Colt.
I just picked up an le carbine marked 6920 it has everything the one you featured does with the exception of the restricted markings on the lower? Mfg in 2012
I worked Colts Security in 1976, I saw these made every day as well as the Pythons, Troopers, 1911s. Quality was pretty good and the people took pride in their product. Made in CT. but you cannot buy one if you live in the state. Stag moved out of state, but Standard Mfg. still makes Aows..
The Colt/dealer relationship reminds me A LOT of the Gibson Guitars/dealer relationship. Both companies that have no idea how grow in the 21st century.
When a turkey made 1911 outperforms a colt 1911 something is wrong.$369 vs $850 and the latter beat colt in accuracy, reliability, fit and finish.Colt is just a name that will likely sit in the safe until sold.I can only speak on the 1911s but that’s enough to make you wonder. The colt is a newer production also,The sds/tisas is too.
As a young child I bought my Colt SP1 to replace my HK 91, because the lighter rifle was eaiser for me to use in training. I bought many Colt ARs, and then Colt got weird. I gave up on Colt 30 years ago, and I have no regrets. I doubt that Colt can ever recover and make a market competitive rifle, even under Czech ownership. I had to deal with Colt and the officer class in the Marines back in the 80's as the Army and Marine Corps disagreed over the M16A2. Screw Colt and screw the incompetent cry babies in the officer class of the Marines.
That is a good question. Colt went weird in sooo many different ways. They have told the civilian market to pound sand so many times. Citizens buy more ARs than all the cops and military. Colt upset a lot of people with the 0.174" pins, instead of the 0.155" normal pins. That way it was impossible to upgrade the trigger. Colt also hollowed out the bolt carrier and also installed a sear block. Colt has also cheapened out their ARs with cost reduced handguards, solid buffers, etc. Colt also acted like A holes to dealers, forcing the dealers to buy useless Colt handguns to allow the dealer to buy one Colt AR. After the dark years of 93-2004 were over, Colt did NOT return back to normal for civilian sales. Colt also has some dumb ex-Marines in charge as poor mismanagers. I dislike them so much. Bushmaster (before being bought out) made such better products. After the dark years expired in 2004 many other companies have made better, cheaper, and faster ARs than Colt. Everyone has their favorite brand. I have mine. Comparing my Colt SP1 and other Colt ARs to other companies' ARs shows that Colt is nothing special. This is not entirely logical, but the cop armorers were such snobs about Colt. I disliked those cop "experts" so much that I rejected their Colt snobbery. The cops were almost always so wrong. Those are a few reasons why I told Colt to "Have a nice day."
The fact someone would complain about laser engraving is humorous to me. I work for a very large aerospace company and I can tell you it’s a much better and more efficient process. There are many ways to mark metal. Electro marking, dot peen marking, laser etc. and laser is the way to go.
I don't think most people are upset about the laser engraving process in 2021. I think most people are upset that the engraving on their rifle says "COLT" 😂🤣😂
One of the smartest things CZ could do for the Colt brand is to bring you on as a consultant.
Amen brother!
Your heart's in the right place, but that would be a terrible decision. They would have to start paying him for what he's giving away for free on TH-cam!
As opposed to buying Colt just to shut it down and eliminate the competition?
I’m sure that CZ will be fine on there own
🙄
If Colt wanted to keep costs down, they should have moved South, or West, and away from a state where it's products are very restricted, or banned.
Smith and Wesson finally came around.
Agreed! Smith & Wesson is leaving MA for that exact reason - why stay where you’re not welcome
Banned by Malloy in 2013 and still in effect with Lamont. Before them you could have anything that the free states now have.
They had the rights in 1960
Would anything really be different if colt had cloned the Glock?
@@someguy5444 Who said Colt should clone the Glock in the 80's? We can blame Colt after the loss of the contracts. Their refusal to work with the civilian market and treating us civilians as a second tier customer has a great deal to their downfall.
THEY FELL VICTIM TO THE DEGENERATE LEFTIST POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!!!🤷♂️🤷♂️
Exactly. They were arrogant and thought they didn’t need the civilian market. Then, FN built a factory in the US and ended up with the contracts. Colt shot them selves in the foot and it was a mortal wound.

It seems the moral of the story is that Colt runs on complete incompetence.
It's not even about college degrees or bean counters-it's just poor leadership.
Don't hold your breath.
Probably hard to find true gun guys in the state of CT anyway.

I completely agree. We'll said!
Isn’t Colt just doing what everyone is doing? Ride the name, keep the premium pricing , and reducing quality
Colt pioneered that.
The Harley Davidson of firearms..
Does that mean my M&P Gen 1 is collectible, because it says it was made in Massachusetts? 🤣
Nah colt commies can stay out of my state!
I have hopes CZ will improve them, a failing company is like a cargo ship it take a long time to turn around.
If it’s allowed in the terms of sale to CZ, Colt needs to be moved out of Connecticut and into a 2A friendly state. No reason to stay where they are.
I'm still wondering how people think CZ will magically fix Colt as soon as the ink dries when Colt spent 60 years digging itself half way into the earth. If someone can do it, CZ can, but this will take years even without COVID and the dirt high demand for product.

Taliban must be so happy to have Colts.
Actually, they are likely a mix of Colt and FN M4s and M16A4s.
How long before they are sold to the Mexican cartels and wind up on the streets of American cities? I'd say the Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles police will start encountering them in their cities sometime in the year 2023. 😒
Thank dementia Joe for that.
And nods
Colt's new CR6920 with a price of $1000+ is still the same price as they were when Colt made all the parts themselves. Colt kept the high prices and got cheaper with the outsourced parts and just never lowered the prices on the consumers end.
It's easy to accuse them of that, but I think that the rifle they were offering in the past had more value than what they were selling them for at the time.
I never minded paying for quality, I have the real LE 6920 m4 marked.when you hold it you can feel the quality difference. 👍

I bought a CR6920 in 2021
Went thru gutted it replaced all internal parts Including buffer and spring. The current Rosco Colt barrel might be next to go !
Sharps Bolt
SSA-E trigger
Super 42 Spring and buffer
Nickle Boron WMD carrier
Sad Colt was once a great name
Even the New colt Python is not the same !
Problem is, some guys give very much a fuck. It needs to be right from head to toe. Period. There's no good reason why it isn't.
I found a Colt LE6900 Light Carbine with no F/A or dust cover in January 2019. It was an unwanted orphan with no pedigree but it only cost me $450 OTD. Thank you for the video and synopsis.
Great video! Especially since I have a LE 6920 with all the Colt mil spec marks you’ve pointed out. Manufactured date 1/31/14.
Cpl. Sev.
The FN may not have the “markings” but it is a superior rifle over the colt. I like the colt 6933 and the monolithic, but I like that colt is cheaper.
Wasn’t fully milspec. Yeah, the barrel, the lower receiver, the FCG, the buffer weren’t fully milspec either.
Save up plenty of money first
Case in point.
Easy peasy
Aaah mil-spec. I remember when I used to think it was the best thing. 🙂 thanks to the community I have learned so much more.
I’m confident I can trust my life with it
If CZ brings back the old Colt designs I may have a reason to get a new "Colt".

Colt: The First Name in Bankruptcy
Well how many times through colts history has it been in bankruptcy ?
@@tbjtbj4786 a decent amount. It’s about comical
Got a good look at Colt’s new Python and Anaconda. They were both laying on the ground at the local dog park. Flys all over them.
@@ibsexplosion4178 💩🤧
My new colt Cr6920 has all the correct markings... just doesn't say law enforcement on the lower.
I would like an M4A1 SOCOM mainly because it's one of the few legal AR-15 in Maryland. Also for some reason the HK 416A5 is on the list of approved rifles in Maryland. Maybe they know it will never be released in the USA.
🤔
Any heavy barrel ar15 is legal in Md
Horrible.
I can sure appreciate someone who knows details and can walk down markings, good job.
Do you still work for colt?
I have a new production FN collector and it came out of the box exactly as the ones I had in the army. Proper 14.5” barrel, 3S679 everywhere, upper, lower, barrel, bolt is properly marked, stock is properly marked. 2 “S” hammer, etc etc. I’m pleased.
Yes but with AUTO marking on it, and no property marking. Also not the military parts. Thats why i never would buy such one...
I am one of the lucky ppl who bought a 14.5 socom CR6920 that has the proper markings on the upper receiver, barrel, front sight, and bcg. I paid about 1200$ for it 2017. It’s my absolute favorite gun I own.
I think now it’s a great investment.
The late 00s era Colt indeed is peak colt. I’ve got a 6940 from ‘09 and she’s a beauty.
Wrong, Colt still makes TDP spec rifles like they always have..A lot of bad information on the internet..
my M16A1 in basic training was made by Harrington Richards. my "battle buddy's" M16A1 was stamped by Cadillac. there were very few actual Colts in B-2-3 in 1983. while stationed in West Germany I was issued a Colt M16A1 and a M16A1 when I got to Ft. Bragg in 1985. the A2s were being issued as I was ETSing.
That would be Harrington & Richardson and Cadillac Gage.
I have a 2021 Colt AR15A4
The bolt carrier is marked "C" on the left side. The
bolt is marked "MPC". The barrel is marked "C MP
5.56 NATO 1/7"
The bolt came with white paint mark from QC. The
barrel came with a yellow paint mark from QC. The
lower says "Colt Defense".
I tell you the Colt Hbar I bought back in 92 was a quality rifle . Chris is a wealth of knowledge & hands on experience.
There's a long tradition of M4s and M4 variants being made out of grab bag parts in the military, so I wouldn't hold that against one.
Have several colt guns, but never gave a thought about markings. I buy them because they’re reliable, dependable, and well built. Never had a worry about my rifle working. As long as they maintain the quality level they have, I’ll keep buying. Great review, enjoyed watching.
Even with them not selling to you evil civilian?
@@robjenstreet yes, a well made gone, despite their politics
@@robjenstreet but they are selling to civilians
@@magdump4456 They treated civilians like crap. You always feel like they don't want you having thier firearms.
I've said this for a long time...Colt and Gibson Guitars have a lot of similarities.
Yep, exactly. It’s uncanny how close they are, even down to the whole BS of making dealers sell the entire line, not just what they want to order.
@@RT81775 That's the worst.
I’m guessing they can’t/won’t label it an M4 if it’s not mil-spec? Though as you said, Colt could go back to being an all mil-spec house.
I hope the people at colt are listening to you and take what you say into consideration.
I did upgrade the furniture on my AR15 Sporter-Two (A2). It was built in 1992 and despite being a bit portly, it remains my favorite 5.56.
I trust CZ’s quality to bring colt back to glory, I hope they bring back all snakes and 1911 series.
This man is speaking 100% facts. Wish you were still at Colt.
Long day in office and I get a new SAS video!!!
Good karma!
Bullshit. They could not deliver the sight base to the government without proper mil-spec markings.
"Cutting off your nose, dispite your face." Agreed! CZ, needs to listen and crack the whip.
Hope cz will help out. Bought my last colt. all future will be DD Giselle or LMT
When you say "weird", what did Colt do?
@@lionelhutz3142 that’s their fault for buying a colt
