Ernie is such a down to earth kind of guy. When I was in high school I skipped school to go to Bay Hill for Arnie's tournament. Anyway, I was watching Ernie warm up on the putting green hitting bunker shots. He holed one, chuckled and said he hopes he can do that on the course, then turned to me handed me his sand wedge and said your turn. Needless to say I handed it right back, laughed, and said I don't think so. He started laughing so hard. Cool guy.
Followed him at the Canadian open pro am 2015. The classiest most gracious professional to the fans we ever witnessed. Smooth as silk with the softest touch around the greens. Excellent video.
What a privilege your audience must have had having that time with you, you are the coolest, slowest swinger of the golf club that we have seen in this game we all love, I have your swing in my mind every time I am about too hit my club, yet now a 67 year old, but hitting the ball further to when I was younger, all because of you, I am too old too swing like tiger or Rory, but I can swing like you, so if an old guy like me can relax throughout his golf swing with results, then you young guy's can learn from Ernie! Many thanks Ernie for taking the time in sharing your strategy in how the golf swing should be! Hope you win a major soon, as I bet on you all the time! Your costing me!
i followed him in 1998 when I was a sophomore in college at a tournament in Orlando. it was probably the most educational thing for my golf game ever. tempo tempo tempo.
Tiger was just so damn good. Nobody can win every single tournament they play in, golf is a very physical game at the end of the day. Once the ball leaves the club face it’s at the will of the world. It might take a good hop or a bad hop. It might hit the flagstick and go in or it might hit the flagstick and bounce into the water. Tiger was able to win 15 fucking majors. It’s just insane how good he was. Dustin Johnson is the greatest talent since Tiger but he’ll never match Tigers dominance on the tour and nobody will ever again. Edit: I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir but couldn’t help myself lol
@@calbonar211 It's especially hard mentally to keep on winning year after year. Remember Spieth starting to become a 'new' Tiger when he threw away four strokes and thus the Masters title. He never really recovered from that.
I never thought about it like that. Makes you wonder what the distribution of say, 10 or 12 of those majors would be, if Tiger were not as dominant as he was.
Harmon plays his role nicely here. He contributes just what he needs to, and let's Els talk the rest of the time. Too many swing instructors never shut the hell up - telling us too much of what we don't need and nothing that we really do need. (Paul Wilson always seems to mention just the essentials - very rare.) Els's wrists are very, very loose. That's what whips the club through the ball so quickly. What is it about these South African golfers and these beautiful golf swings? Good ol' Ernie Els - a terrific guy.
A lot of players have a tendency of gliding the hips instead of rotation them. Therefore, I like to think about the left knee instead of the hips. If you feel like you're rotating around the left knee while stretching out the left leg at impact then you'll automatically rotate the hips instead of gliding them. If you look at all the long hitters DJ, Rory, Rahm etc. they all move the left leg in the same way. Most of the power in the legs goes in a upward motion and not sideward. And the upward power generated by your legs pushing against the ground will then transfer into your swing if done correctly. This is also why players like Rahm can generate so much power with a short backswing, because most of the power comes from how he uses his legs.
Ernie throws the clubhead so well and gets the club back out in front that he doesn't have to jerk snap to get speed. You can clearly see him throwing the clubhead in his rehearsal swings, but in the real swing it's invisible.
I need to hit the Harmon Tour Design blue and red shaft again on a Cleveland launcher 400 (never hit it on a 3 wood). It was really easy to control the shot shape.
I think there's actually a book called "It's the Damn Ball" lol. One thing to keep in mind is that if you look at your practice swing on video, even though the tempo is nice and the power is in the right spot, your clubface is normally way off, which is why when most people go to hit the ball with their practice swing it goes all over hell.
Played Troon last month. That's where this avatar was taken. Asked the starter, "Where did Ernie hit it with a baseball swing out of the gorse and still make par? It was the railroad hole #11.
I think u r supposed to go through ball like a train passing through station without stopping at the ball or slowing down. It is a one swing after you drop the club in a slot and go.
Silk. That's the only way to describe Ernie's swing. What's interesting is that accomplished as he is, they still work on thre fundamentals - grip, stance, alignment. This guy would've won a lot more tournaments had Tiger not been in his way.
Notice how his right elbow is connected to his hips. When his hips turn his elbows turn with it. Feel that the elbows are part of your body. Then the lagged club comes in after.
zero snap of the arms in his swings here and when you watch his swing slow mo. 0. Arms "snap" only after weight is transferred to front foot, hips can now rotate and shoulders follow and arms snap as a result of the body rotation - they at least start to have any power at that stage. The easy swing comes from no forced movement of the arms/hands. The more you keep arms and hands quite the better off you will be.
Why is his assistant and his golf bag positioned so that they cast a shadow over the ball? Whoever produced this video hasn't got a clue. I switched off in frustration.
it's funny how not one pro talks about what keeps them consistent in the Golf Swing, there is one move once you discover it, you are going to get that AH, HA moment..Els does that move, but doesn't talk about it..... it's the same as if you discovered a formula that will make you 1 million on a daily basis, would you tell anybody....I wouldn't say a thing or sell it...
Had you been camera oriented for 5 cents, you would have removed youself and your big ass bag shades from the hitting area where Ernie was demontrating. The video would have been that much more intereesting since we would have seen the results of his explanations.

What a player and what a sense of humor!! Love him, 30 plus wins on the Senior PGA tour 2020!
Love the way Ernie Els starts the day off with fans with a good morning greeting.
Guys like Ernie and Singh are so underrated, elite players overshadowed by a prime Tiger era and still managed to win some majors.

@@denofrobbers8845 Just check the nr 2's behind Tiger and you know.
Yeah if Ernie would have been in his prime either now or before Tiger, he’d have more majors than any modern player besides Tiger I believe.
Man .. that was one of the best video I saw for professional golfer... he's very funny guy :)
When Dustin is playing.......hilarious
what a stand up guy... good to watch
I always love how smooth and easy Ernie's swing is.
Loved his game... the gentle giant... smooth as a butter powerful swing! One of my favorite golfers to watch in the 90s!

Correct! Some of these instructors go on and on and on. It gets to be too much.
It's in our beer/wine bro.....come to South Africa and have some of our beer/wine and you will leave with a great swing with beautiful tempo/rhythm
this is the guy... this is swinging... great Ernie!
Extremely few can swing like him😊
I watched this and hit a few balls, and then went out and shot my lowest 9 ever, 3 under par. Thanks Ernie and poster.
Asked Ernie els and Ian poulter for photos at the a charity day once.
Ernie = absolute class act
Poulter = absolute tool
Love the knowledge shared. Ernie's awesome.
That’s normal
He really tried well to convey things. I feel I do these things now instinctively after years of practice. He is a good down to earth teacher.
You wouldn't think that the man behind the best swing on tour, still in my view, was as good a guy as his swing is.
Yeah he's really cool
That follow-through is the best there is.

You're very welcome. Thank you

This is a great golf video
2:26 "...and folks that's how I won The Open Championship". Thanks for to share some kind of GOLD from Big Easy.
Always liked Ernie!
The morning after - gotta love the Big Easy - heard he likes a nice drop of whiskey 🥃
He likes he’s whiskey and rugby
I meet ernie 2 times such nice guy
We got two things in common.I also support lLeeds and have always loved Ernie swing.I am South African

Ernie is awesome always.
Without a ball my swing looks exactly like a professional's. And then there is the ball...
yes I am a much better golfer than I play
Lol, I know right
That's what you think ;-)

I've found that putting weight on the BACK HEEL produces a tremendous amount of power. Trying to find weight on the toes area is nothing but trouble.
Ernie reminds me of John Wayne.
pure talent
awesome
love this guy
seems like a really cool guy
What a swing....cool guy
I think u r supposed to go through ball like a train passing through station without stopping at the ball or slowing down. It is a one swing after you drop the club in a slot and go.
Anyone know how many inches he extends his clubs?
Silk. That's the only way to describe Ernie's swing. What's interesting is that accomplished as he is, they still work on thre fundamentals - grip, stance, alignment. This guy would've won a lot more tournaments had Tiger not been in his way.
What about his wrist hinge?
I have a South African question for Ernie, what is a [doos], you used that word years ago, and ended with a good shot.
Loosely translated it means idiot. But there’s another cruder meaning.
Move the bag to get the shadow out of the way. #themoreyouknow
Nova Time ....they heard you.
Ernie with a paunch - who'd have thunk it! :)
Notice how his right elbow is connected to his hips. When his hips turn his elbows turn with it. Feel that the elbows are part of your body. Then the lagged club comes in after.
Ernie's swing looks like he just swing it with no power at all, not forcing it too fast. Love his swing, and as for female probably michelle wie.
Els swing is like butter. None smoother imo
Fred Couples
His tempo is just beautiful.same thing could be said for Freddy and Louis.
I have a bottle of wine 🍷 named Ernie Els 😎
I like golf
He's really hasn't lost his Germiston/Alberton accent and mannerisms
Someone tell the commentator his shadow is in his view! Rooky 😂
Talent on loan from God !
Well said
I wish I could have a swing coach. Why cant everybody have a swing coach?
nice
Who is the other guy talking?
I heard Ernie mention once that you should tee ball at practice.? Ever shot!....tee it up. Im sure many would like to know....WHY???
We shot 66, he shot 75....priceless
1995. BRAPP. WATERWAYS. TEAM. RIDER. SURFS. GOLFS. S. AFRICA. VIC. BAY. 1. WITH. SEAN. STEFIE. MURPHY. RIP.
He's looking like Liam Neeson as he gets older.
Darn ! Be aware of the shadow
Lekker babbelas Ernie :-)
Who the hell is the guy that keep on talking?? I don't see him in the tour.
That is butch Harmon’s son, Ernie’s swing coach. Does he need a swing coach? Me think not. A golf swing like Ernie no need to have coach.
Omg.. when that "other" guy started to talk..
It almost looks like he plays in slow motion
zero snap of the arms in his swings here and when you watch his swing slow mo. 0. Easy.
What a nice guy. No attitude which tiger woods has.
Els Couples Singh. All butter team.
They can do it but can’t explain it
shadow :(
Can he demonstrate the art to great putting now?
I'm so glad they don't wear shorts on tour

Most layed back guy ever. Doesn't really give a shit about anything.
The daily acknowledgment reassuringly blush because philippines probably prepare qua a ablaze bone. laughable, doubtful chauffeur
Why is this guy talking non stop!!
This is pretty lame.
he's overloading his pressure.....so important.
