    thank you, CNA and host. As a Chinese lived in Shanghai I don't really know the details about the BRI, and my ignorance even make me feared that we might carelessly disturbing our neighbours. And after watching this documentary, I have learned a lot about the BRI and it's influence from north to south. Most importantly, the narrative angle is focusing on the peoples, their lives and culture. That I think is the same purpose of BRI which is to inspire people and encourage them to improve their lives constantly.

      As for the Western powers, in particular USA, all they are interested in is to sell you more weapons, provoke internal & external conflicts causing more conflicts & misery. I am sure Uncle Ho will agree with the latter. Thousands were killed from both sides during the Vietnam War. China's helping building many infrastructures, which could attract many more countries, and they could also benefit from all these, including the West. What the West has done is exporting their so-call cultures and democracy. I would say, doing is better than just saying, some people can't feel this way tho.

    • @moonlightstripess
      @moonlightstripess 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      But then again China isn't doing it out of the goodness of their heart. There is always a catch to everything. As the video's title, it paves the way for China's new Silk Road. Which in a larger picture would be used as China's worldwide monopoly of goods and trade. It's why China keeps lending money to other bankrupt questionable countries without expecting the loan to be paid in monetary sums, but rather through 'loyalty' for 'helping'.

    • @artcurious807
      @artcurious807 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The west unfortunately has been slow to help because of a misguided belief that all cultures must first adopt western values and political structures before major investments are made. Whereas China does not care what you believe or do they just want economic influence in the region.
      America made the mistake also of forgetting about the economic well being of its own people while spending trillions of dollars abroad to rebuild other nations. Right now China has better infrastructure than America in many ways. More roads, bridges, highways, rail, airports and subways. Asia has all the top airports in the world and is still growing.

    Laos and China will succeed greater and our people will be united at the heart and mind of both people. In a sense of faith for the Lao people across the country. China realistically gave Laos and the people of Laotian or "Lao origin" HOPE . Unlike the U.S that continue war game else where and seeking to returned back into our regions and stir political and social unrest. This is Western U.S ways of dividing our country and our neighbors apart.

I would suggest you to weigh in the pros and cons with collaborating with any country, China included to see if it's for the better or for worse for your country and your people. Most of the bad deals that happened in our respective countries (like the many Special Economic Zones) are done by the red and corrupted rulers against the will of its people. They are there to collect bribes as much as they could before fleeing out of the country. And Chinese people are the masters of the art of bribing.

      Here is how good China is at buiding railroad with chinese workers and materials in Viet Nam:
      The Cat Linh- Ha Đong railroad is 13Km long and contracted to Chinese company at 553 million US in 2011, supposed to start operating in 2015. As of today, 3 years later, they raised the cost to ́̉́868 millions US and still in test mode. This is just an example of how good Chinese contractors are! Go to Viet Nam and take a look at all the Thermal Electric Coal plants build by China and see for yourself how they smoke! The Vietnamese government officials are all bought and controlled by Chinese Government, so they just close their eyes! The host said "As the land locked largely mountainous country with many in population living in poverty, Laos has for years been put high on the United Nation list of least developed countries."
    So where are western countries, Korea, and Japan to help Laos to develop? They totally ignored Laos and let Laos die on its own. Now as China comes in to help Laos develop, and Laos is developing fast with many Laos people's getting richer, the West are getting jealous and starts to smear and demonize China. While the western countries constantly smear China about debt-trap, smart Laotians believe in long-term like the Chinese.

      Remember that your Vietnamese government is asking China for help. China doesn't volunteer to come and help VN because China already learns its lesson from ungrateful neighbor, Vietnam. Helping Vietnam, China doesn't get much benefit.
      Where is American's helps when VN needs roads and bridges the most, not weapons?
      When VN needs roads and bridges to develop the country to make Vietnamese lives better, the US creates fears for your country and sells weapons to make money off Vietnam, and your ungrateful Vietnamese still worship the American like god.

At the same time the infrastructures are badly needed in some neighboring countries while they have no money to do it, I think in that regards it could be a win win situation. It's very wise if the Vietnamese to be cautious in signing massive trade and economic deals with ANY foreign investors, not just China. When another nation has too much financial influence on a nation; the integrity of their political and judicial systems become compromised and can easily result in a foreign government influencing laws, policies and even constitutions. This takes generations to reverse and potentially the affected country may never fully recover.

The US has many fake non-governmental organizations, such as the National Endowment for Democracy, that operate in China and Vietnam to stir up troubles for both China and Vietnam by trying to get the people in Vietnam to hate China so that Vietnam would be an enemy for China instead of a friend! The US has these fake non-governmental organizations all over the world trying to hurt both China and Russia by pulling these types of schemes against these two powerful countries that the US sees as a threat to its hegemony!

    Vietnam is just very tenacious about being independent. It declared independence from a colonial power and built a constitution that takes a large part from the American constitution and Les droits de l'homme. The Soviet Union was the only one who could back the Ho-Chi-Mihn's government and there was no other capable non-communist leader.
    Now in 2019, in retrospective, for the average Vietnamese person will view Americas actions as more noble than those of China that would just wants to control them. The devastation that Stalinist policies brought to Vietnam was in many ways worse than the war. China is developing its own version of colonialism and maybe its best system for the world - I don't know - but it is perfectly reasonable for nations to not want to be involved at this early stage.
    Everyone knows that with these belt and road projects, there will be politicians making a lot of money on the side. It happened in Malaysia. When there isn't a lot of transparency in these projects, people will safely assume that there is corruption going on. I don't know how this documentary could present ordinary people protesting against corruption and taking an interest in Vietnam's future as a nationalist sentiment. There are no elections and more control over the media in Vietnam, so people protest as a way of expressing political discontent. Its better that some protest is expressed rather than follow China's attitude towards protest.
    Saying that Vietnam should accept debts from China and its politicians are smart enough to realise this but the average person is stupid and nationalist is intellectually dishonest. This is why people end up watching fake news, the main-stream news is biased and doesn't dig deep enough.

    What an amazing vision and forward thinking creating this New Silk Road. I can't think of any country bold enough to try and pull this off with enough resource and capital like China. I have to commend them for that. China's goal is to facilitate trade with the world and in the process elevate the poor countries along this belt and road initiatives. It's a win win for the countries involved. The debt trap is real and a concern but I don't think China's goal is to create a debt trap for the countries but to connect the world to trade. I expect a few countries may fail to pay back. We shall see how that unfolds but I do really like the grand view with the side effect of modernizing many of the countries that will be touched by this forward vision and improving their standard of living. I truly also want to believe this will help the world as we are all one race Human race.

    My opinion: I think we need not forget history because we could learn a lot by studying history, but the world is not static but dynamic, and the way people think is also changed, so people don’t want to think in the same way every day, and the attitudes, thoughts, opinions, standpoints etc. could be changed in more balanced way without focusing on extreme turnings. So, countries in Asia have reached to a significant juncture in history to work together for the benefit of ALL instead of a single party. So, all countries in Asia should think of new approaches in order to work together as a single Asian partnership, a common platform, because every single country should be benefited whatever is initiated in the region at mega level. So, need to think of “win-win situations” at all times. When Asia is flourished, the whole world is flourished too, and no doubt about it.

    Why borrow money from China to build the road?Because it's good, you can develop your own infrastructure and drive the economy. The economy along the road will be developed, the national tax revenue will increase, and people will be convenient to travel.
    The U.S. doesn't like them borrowing money from China. Why don't you lend it to them?
    Because you don't want them to develop. You won't be able to control them when they develop.
    Of course these countries can borrow money from many organizations and countries to develop themselves. But they choose China in the end。Are they stupid?Of course not.
    Because interest rates in China are low, there are not many other requirements. It's just a two-way choice between those countries and China.
    Of course the United States doesn't want that to happen. So what would the United States do?
    The United States is of course funding the country's opposition or the restless to rock the boat.
    If you look closely, you will find that behind the troublemakers is the United States or Japan.

    Please kindly visit to the Manipur (North east India) and you can see what is happening over there after merging into India. Making totally backward land by imposing martial laws, no development and no futures. Manipur and north east India merging with India as second class citizen and feeling totally oppressed. Lastly Manipuris looked same like Chinese and we have totally different cultures from Mainland India. We are not able to get such opportunities of developments that are happening in other Asian countries.

    When china proposed lending to Hanoi for the city train, it does not say the cost will double and project lengthen by 3 times. After 10 years, billion of USD loaned from China but the train still un runable. Only Vietnamese pay the bigger and bigger debt. My advice to other country, loan from china always comes with corruption, in efficient project and low quality infrastructure.

    There is a general practice of China Companies ( particularly in mineral exploitation projects) that is they do not care on environtment and destroy the infrastructure in the region that got the project. In Vietnam, China company using HOWA truck which overloaded with iron ore causing the destruction of road in every place they comes. The dust is special condensed, spreading and poluted all the area. It is the destruction not investment.

    I like this video. The questions and topic is fair and very informative. As Laotian who is educated and living in the Western country, I wish Laos to have a successful economic growth and hoping she has made further progress then she has now. But, it is understandable when Laos is one of the poorest countries in world, and have extremely low-education populations, she does not have a lot of investors who is willing to invest in her; China might be only option that iis opening up to her.
    Yet as Laotian who want the best for Laos, I have to wonder, how much our country resource Chinese has been taking advance of verse what Chinese has given and loan to Laos vs. if Laos is opening up herself to the world----fair market value.
    I see a lot of comments that is posting, they appear to be more political then the question---what is the best for Laos. I also wonder if most of the comments are a fake news from Chinese government(intent to cover up and cloud up--- Lao people from see which path is better for herself).
    Since we have limited resource as a landlock country, Laotian population or government should focus on a giving her people a high education----may be we should look at Singapore and South Korean as example----they do not have a lot of nature resource, but their people are highly educated, as a result, they are able to compete in the world class economic. We must learn from our history, too much pride is not good for Laos; and we also become subject of taking advance by other country, don't you agree? Ex. Laos people and country has paid heavy price in Vietnam war, so when they draw indochina map. Best wish to Lao People and Country.... I hope someday, I could make a contribution in her progress.....
