    Last Chang, Sri Lanka owes India 7.1 bn ,China $3 bn and the Paris club 2.4 bn according to the Al Jazeera report . Sri Lanka approached China for help with the Hambantota Int. Port and China assisted with $3 bn to pay off part of its debt according to the Washington Post. Please do your research b4 you spit out unfounded info.

      Yes, but how many ports in Sri Lanka has India taken over because Sri Lanka couldn't pay its debt? This is the difference between Chinese debt and for example the IMF, it always comes with: "if you can't pay, we take it away" condition. IMF also comes with conditions, but those are conditions before you get the loan, like democratic and economic reforms, but you never loose control of important infrastructure when you can't pay. It gets even worse when it looks very much like China is interested in countries not paying, since they rather take the control of the infrastructure than get repayment of the loan, so they more or less purposely set them up to fail and are not at all interested in any debt restructuring.

    It's curious that some people are skeptical of China's BRI assistance. What has China ever done to cause them doubt?
    Since opening up in the 1980s, China has respected all nations. China has not interfered in any nation's politics. China has not imposed sanctions on any country. China has not taken military action against anybody - _no wars have been fought in the last 44 years!_
    Compare China with USA:
    1) Numerous wars including Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, and Yemen in recent years.
    2) Numerous sanctions against dozens of countries.
    3) Numerous coups to overthrow foreign governments.
    Moreover, what has USA done to advance the development of any country in the Global South? Especially in Africa, Middle East, and Latin America.
    BRI is a great boon for mankind.

    • @switchvita2359
      @switchvita2359 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      What are you talking about? China have sanctioned many countries smaller than them. So don't cry that USA are sanctioning China. Also, China have interfered in many countries politics. An example is the Solomon Islands.
      In regards to military action, how about the intimidation of other countries boars in SCS and the frequent flying over Taiwanese airspace.

    • @horridohobbies
      @horridohobbies ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@switchvita2359 What countries have China sanctioned? China sanctioned Australia in retaliation to Australian interference.
      China and Solomon Islands negotiated an arrangement. This is not interference.
      Most of the claimant nations in SCS have engaged in similar conflicts. That's just the nature of territorial disputes.
      What is USA's excuse for Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, etc.?
      Taiwan is part of China. China is protecting its territorial integrity.

China has absolutely interfered with other nations's politics, taken military action against others and fought wars in the last 44 years. Your comment indicates nationalism or laziness, because this is easily verifiable information. And Taiwan is not part of China. It is its own independently functioning democracy that has made it clear time and time again that it as no desire to unify with the mainland. Some would disagree with the 'mutual benefit' part, but who am I to judge. I just wonder why China is so interested in connections with the west to better access the markets there when really the biggest untapped market is found in China and SE Asia. Half of the worlds population lives in that region, but the Belt and Road initiative is mainly to get stuff out of China into Europe, locking it into a production place where Europe goes to buy stuff because of cheap labor and not wanting the pollution in its own back yard.

    Here's a trivia to all Chinese netizens reading this. Name one Chinese emperor who claimed the entire South China Sea including the Spratley. Just one. There should be historical records of such claim by such emperor. Like your Emperor Yongle who claimed sovereignty over Ceylon in the 1400s. Some details of its history were written in the book "When China Ruled the Seas: The Treasure Fleet of the Dragon Throne" by Louise Levathes.
    If your government says it has historical basis for its sovereignty rights over the SCS, then who was the emperor who made such claim? If you can't name one -- JUST ONE -- then what are you dong here? You're just doing lip-service for something you can't prove. China has no history in the Spratleys. It's game over.

      Obviously someone has been reading US and western MSM. Western and pro-West media as usual resort to fearmongering and demonise China as setting out to trap countries. How pathetic and desperate are the West.
      Sri Lanka’s debt problem is very complex that includes political and economic factors, failure of their own government’s policies.
      The main driver of Sri Lanka’s debt problem is the increase in the dollar-denominated international sovereign bonds (ISBs) or Eurobonds borrowed from the international markets, not just China.
      The lease of Hambantota port as an equity swap is fearmongering by the international media. The loan for the Hambantota Port is still being serviced by the Sri Lankan government as of Mar 2023 and is recorded under the Treasury.
      China had granted Sri Lanka a 2-year debt moratorium.
      Whether Chinese debts have to be paid first is dependent on whether the borrowing parties agree to it. Naturally lenders will want to protect their interests first.
      China’s role in making Sri Lanka a debt-ridden country is hugely exaggerated by Western and pro-West media.

      Shows you hv no idea how logistics works.. LoL. Every piece of the container box needs paperwork, customs etc declarations. The locals do this work. Some goods are even offloaded then repackaged before sending off to Europe. That's work for the locals. Empty boxes needs space for storage, that's rent per daily , and cleaning health bill before new stuff loading. That's work for locals. All these movement needs trucking .. That's work for locals. and everyone needs to eat n sleep , that's business /housing for locals.. 😂

    Kazakhstan wasn't a major stop on the silk road
    Samarkand was ! its where the ancient Sogdian people originated, they played an important role in history as the silk road merchants until the An Lushan Rebellion

      No, they were both important. Turkistan in kazakhstan was also a very important city. And it's because of the battle of Talas in kz/kyrgz that the knowledge of how to make paper spread from China, before the An Lushan rebellion.
