I have to give up coffee because if I have coffee, I need a sweet, if I have a sweet, I need coffee. Also gives me indigestion over time. I haven’t had caffeinated coffee since Boxing Day when I had a mild case of the 🦠 and couldn’t face food or drink. I had only 1 cup of herbal tea in the first 24 hrs I had 🦠 so I figured it was a good time to stop caffeine. Now for the ☕️😬

I love my morning coffee, especially with a bit of cream in it. However, we shouldn’t get too excited by this study for a number of reasons. 1) This is old news. The study was done in 2016 and those of us who are partial to a bit of endurance exercise are well versed in ketone and other lipids being released by caffeine before and during exercise. 2) They only had 10 participants (8 female, 2 male). 3) Their average age was 33+/- 19 (which means their ages ranged from 14 - 52). 4) Their pre-caffeine breakfast was “two pieces of toast with raspberry jam, a piece of cheese, applesauce and 100 ml of juice. The breakfast contained 85 grams of carbohydrate, 9.5 g of fat and 14 g of protein” Hardly applicable to people on a low carb diet. 5) Their BMIs ranged from 16 to 32. 6) They were not given coffee but “Commercially available caffeine tablets” … hand crushed … mixed in 104 ml of applesauce”. 7) There was no assessment of any inflammation or ROS effects of the other chemicals found in coffee (because they didn’t use coffee). So, I’ll still be drinking a cup or 2 of organic, fair trade coffee in the morning as well as before/during endurance events. But just remember to read a bit further than the abstract of a study.

Great comment, it shows how people can just be told a study says something and they will blindly follow it, they are plenty of studies showing saturated fat is bad for you but that is clearly false. Some coffee is probably fine but at the end of the day caffeine is a plant toxin and having a lot is not beneficial

I was going to make the comment that I had already heard about this years ago, but I saw your comment and didn't need to. Thanks for posting. Coffee is the seed of a plant and toxic, so my instincts tell me it's wrong. I still have a little, but I probably should quit altogether.

Since starting my ketogenic lifestyle, my coffee consumption has gone WAY up. In addition to the benefits of caffeine to low-carb lifestylers, coffee also keeps something in your stomach, to help reduce food cravings (which aren't bad to begin with, on a ketogenic diet). I do restricted eating daily, and relatively frequent extended fasts, and coffee definitely enables these.

I have always HATED coffee, I never drank anything but water. when I switched to keto 3 years ago I heard I had to have electrolytes. I started to drink Zipfizz, after a while I became addicted to the caffeine, just as bad as I had previously addicted to carbs. I drank/snuck them all day long. It controlled so much if my thought process. 6 weeks ago I kicked it to the curb for non-caffeinated electrolytes. I sleep so much better, have bladder control again, and don’t obsess. However, hearing this video I am thinking, hmmm, maybe it wasn’t so bad, maybe I could have just one a day….. hear the addict?

I didn’t start drinking coffee until I was in my 40’s. Growing up, Dad drank coffee, and Mom drank tea. I drink tea mostly when I’m not feeling well, and coffee otherwise. But too much caffeine makes my heart do “flip-flops”.

I have suspected this for decades.
I carry a cup around with me all day; sipping occasionally. It's kind of my trademark to always have the coffee cup with me.
I've tried stopping several times, but I always feel better and more alert with the coffee.
In total, I wind up drinking 2-4 cups per day; spread out over most of the day.

I was hoping you were going to mention that commercial coffee production includes being sprayed with pesticides. Beans are sprayed, heated to roast, packaged and then it gets to our machine and gets hit with hot water! Pesticides every mornig for breakfast. Yum. Organic coffee may even be sprayed. I know... I know... it can be too overwhelming to research but considering HOW MUCH coffee I drink in my life I figured it was worth it. Long Live Coffee!

I love my coffee and I have had acute renal failure, not a nice experience, would not wish it upon anyone and after going through what a kidney transplant and life after might look like, no, no, no, thank goodness it didn't come to that. I do a lot now days to preserve my kidney function but I have not given up coffee. I only have coffee in the morning, made on water, (brewed or filtered) and I make it weaker so I can have two cups totalling the same amount of coffee granules. Not sure how much caffein is in that, This is a big daily reduction for me, but very satisfying, Best of both worlds. Don't screw up your kidneys,

I have anxiety and in the past month have quit switching to tea and it's helped me tremendously. I relapsed and had a cup yesterday and today and now I feel very tired and depressed. Coffee has been known to suppress thyroid over long term. This is the hardest drug to quit. And yes it's a drug. It's the world's most addictive psychoactive drug and even teenagers are getting hooked. There's a coffee shop on every corner and this has gotten out of hand.
Anyone who has anxiety shouldn't be taking it. Doctors will try to justify anything they are addicted to.m

I nurse this for a about 5 hours every single day:
    16 oz - cold water
2 tblsp - ground Colombian Coffee brewed in a drip brewer
    In cup/carafe prior to brewing:
1 tsp - Coconut milk (optional)
1 tblsp - Heavy whipping cream
    1/8 tsp - Salt
    - Dusting of cinnamon powder
    - Dusting of Turmeric powder
    1 tblsp - Salted butter
1 tsp - Lu Ana coconut oil
    After brewing:
    1 Packet of Stevia sweetner
1 Packet of Swiss Miss reduced calorie hot chocolate (sugar-free)
1 Tbl - Chocolate collagen (Orgain Keto / Ancient Nutrition Multi or Bone Broth Collagen protein)
1/2 tsp - Chocolate milk mix (like Nesquick)
1/2 tsp - Cacao (unsweetened baking cocoa)
1 tsp - Freeze dried coffee (dark roast)
    6 Drops of sugar-free Hershey's syrup
Whisk until blended (Coffee frother optional). Top with regular or sugar-free whipped cream if desired or pour into a large vacuum / insulated stainless steel tumbler to keep warm.
Not perfect ketovore, but with ketovore and this drink have maintained a 50 pound weight loss for three years going on four. 10 Grams of carbs over five hours works for me. Keeps me away from pastry. Now for a cigar!

I was addicted to coffee for more than a decade until last year when I gave it up. It was one of the best decisions because I finally stop being dependent on a substance. When I was drinking coffee, my body was so dependent on it that if I don’t have a cup in the morning I would have bad headache for the rest of the day. I also saved a good amount of money by quitting coffee. Now in the morning if I feel hungry and need breakfast I just drink some milk, and I can be alert an entire day without caffeine. I can’t say whether coffee is good or bad for health, but the addiction for me was very bad.

Weaning off artificial sweeteners is another step to take down the road to perfect health after you get your excess weight off…baby steps…baby steps! We all need bridges!

I love coffee so much, however the caffeine ruins my sleep. As I’ve aged, the effect has gotten worse. Even just one cup in the morning now will limit my sleep to only 5 hours or so. I’ve had to completely eliminate caffeine in order to get a decent night’s sleep. I have read somewhere about the half-life of caffeine and how it stays in your system. Breaks my heart.

I reduced form 5 to 1 cup a day ,and after 5 weeks kidney blood test was normal. I'm not sure if 5 weeks was enough to improve kidney function. But I am glad I can have 2 cups now. Thanks doc.

How a study is designed, how the data is collected and how the data is statistically analyzed matters. If you cannot verify the study on your own because, you are not technically trained, then yes it seems as if you can find a study to confirm your biases. Most of these food and diet studies should be completely ignored. That's my confirmation bias.

She did have a stroke at around 65 from nicotine literally clogging her arteries but was saved and lived another 20 years - cause of death unknown but assumed to be another stroke.

    One size doesn’t fit all.
Plus, as others mention, purchasing coffee can be spendy. It should be
    Single sourced
    Organic
    Fair Trade
    Farmed sustainability
    Etc
That kind of coffee runs about $20/pound here.

In their most natural form, eggs contain very little carbohydrates. According to the National Agricultural Library, a large egg has less than half a gram of carbohydrate. Roughly 45 to 65 percent of your total daily calories should come from carbohydrates. So, on a 1,600-calorie-per-day diet, about 720 to 1,040 calories should come from carbs. Each gram of carbohydrate has 4 calories -- which means you’ll need about 180 to 260 grams per day. So that one large egg makes no significant contribution toward that goal.
