Also want to add that Obsidian Time did it without saving. He restarted back to cell stage every time he got hit and he beat the challenge after 50 1+ hours tries
It's always interesting to see the unusual challenges you come up with in Spore. Also, I like the custom Spore-achievement-style banners you use in the video thumbnails, they're a nice detail.
A little trick I discovered in cell stage is lining up the spikes just right next to the carnivore mouth, so they’re pointing straight forward like tusks while not deleting the mouth by taking its spot. It’s a bit tricky, often takes me a few tries. Once you do that, not only can you parry another carnivore’s attack, but you can actually stab _through_ their mouth, eliminating the need to dodge behind them in a 1v1 to get a hit in. Might be helpful in a challenge like this to avoid being damaged while still getting the meat you need.
I'm happy to see that this game, even though it was released in 2008, still has a dedicated and engaged fan base. Congratulations, KinglyValence, for keeping this amazing game alive.
as someone who played Spore as a kid and put hundreds of hours into it, i am greatly surprised at how many little strategies and game quirks there are in this old kid's game. i always remembered a lot of the systems being kinda simplistic (at least compared to the game's prelaunch hype at the time) but these videos make me realize how much depth there really is. i feel like Spore really needs a comprehensive game guide full of all of these little tricks and rare events. in all my time playing i've never had an epic attack a city in civ stage before!
gotta say, i adore your content. thank you for playing and analyzing spore, the underrated and sorta forgotten game i've been in love with since the first boot up. you're really doing the spode's work, keep it up!
Oh wow! I did not expect my tip on that one video to ever get used, as a big fan of your spore challenges and speedruns so this was a very pleasant surprise for me Love these custom challenges ya do man, keep it up! ^^
Great run! I admire your persistense! I wager that this arrow between Omnivore and Carnivore was just visually placed askew , but the in-game statistics or something counted your Cell Stage progress as Omnivore anyways,
I kinda do something similar, but a _tiny_ bit more merciful: I'm allowed to take damage, I'm just not allowed to die; and this also extends to pack members, tribe members, vehicles, etc. Also no restrictions on breeding, but similar checkpoint restrictions. If someone suggested that I do this damageless I probably would have laughed in their face.
im starting to love what you're doing to spore, youre the one who can make a 15 years old game entertaining its awesome and it gets me more and more hyped for spore 2 but sadly it will never exist without making EA think its a good idea, because they may think they'll waste their money. and also i have like 1000 ideas of spore 2 if one of them is missed im disliking spore 2 so i think its better i do it myself somehow.
There IS however a game that seeks to be a spiritual successor to Spore, it's called "Elysian Eclipse" on Steam. Still in development, but looks promising.
There are several fan projects that act as spiritual successors to Spore, and you can find videos on them. Elysian Eclipse and Thrive are the first ones to pop out in my head, but those are still early in development
I usually refer to the deflection with other cells as fencing, especially if it goes on for a minute. When they turn away you can get a good stab in, and that usually puts them on the run.
I don’t know if you know this but you can hit up or down on the arrow keys in the cell editor to scale parts and It definitely seems to affect the hitboxes. So in this cell stage you could have made the cilia small and the spikes huge.
I loved the Shaman archetype, it made my life easier and happier in the Space Stage. Thanks to the ghost ship glitch and the Return Ticket it has been very easy to get to the Center of the Galaxy 🥳🌌
How about an anti-pacifist run, where you can't do anything without being aggressive? So only eating food from cells/creatures you've killed, only gaining food in tribal stage by stealing it, and only using spice derricks and buildings you capture from other civs. I think it would be interesting because aside from cell stage, you'd actually be able to get any consequence traits you wanted. Oh, and it's a no-death run.
if i were to wager a guess, the pointer was RIGHT on the border between omnivore and carnivore, and the background color fade is preemptive to the actual card you're getting, so the color changed before the creature did
@@hero-bo7qc The mouth has nothing to do with the end result all the mouth does is let you eat more kinds of food and perform certain actions the end result is determined by how much meat vs plant you eat
spore used to work on my pc just fine but around februrary it simply stopped booting up, it would crash at the main menu. the game will not stop manifesting my dreams. i can feel my creatures calling out to me whenever i sleep
There might be some fixes. Have you tried the unofficial 4GB Ram patch? I used it and can sometimes help crashing davoonline.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=125&t=9424 Also if you don't care about your saved games and just want Spore to work at all again, you can delete the Spore folder from the Roaming folder in Windows (search %appdata%) and that can reset a lot of issues. (It will delete all your saves though). If you want to keep your saves you could try just deleting the GraphicsCache file within that Spore folder. Some times that can cause issues and might be worth trying first. Make sure to keep backups :)
@@KinglyValence a close friend told me about the 4gb ram patch, it was a good attempt but it didnt change anything. tried deleting the graphicscache too but i havent tried deleting all the saves
I wonder why almost everytime you using this dark green carnivore cell in speedruns in particular? Is it has any advantages over other cells? Great video, time to play Spore again!
Thank you! I like the front shape of that cell because it allows the Filter Feeder mouth to be placed evenly on each side of the carnivore mouth without being too wide. I would use this one a lot for speedruns back in the day to place the mouth quickly and had gotten used to using this cell over time. Some of the other carnivore cells have more odd fronts and made it harder to place the mouth on front. The coloring on this cell is also good and helps stand out against the green grass in Creature Stage, some of the other carnivore cells are green themselves so this cell was also easier to visually track. I've also thought about keeping certain characters consistent between videos, kind of like channel branding in a way. But maybe it's getting too repetitive?
2:45 Back when I played spore as a teen this is why I always made anything but my mouth and spikes tiny in the editor. Is there any reason you don't make these parts tiny so they're less of a target and the spikes as large as possible so they protect and attack better? It doesn't cost any more DNA and just takes a second to scroll the mousewheel.
I had the rule of only 1 mate per section and I had unfortunately already used it, I didn't know they would bite the Cilia at the time. If I were to do another run I probably won't add the Cilia for that part :)
@@KinglyValence I mean... you can still add it, just scroll down to make it smaller when editing the cell then they can't hit it past the spikes as the visual size actually affects the hitbox. So just making it smaller will keep it just as effective for speed and turning but make it a smaller target so enemies always hit the spikes first and can't get to it. And as I already said, you can also make the spikes bigger to make it impossible for them to get through.
Yep, I even tried speeding up the game with Cheat Engine to test it to simulate and hour and the tribe never reduced their relationship in that time :) Something interesting I found when testing is even after gifting the other tribe member, if we used a Firework to bring them to Friendly, the tribe will reduce from Friendly back through Ambivalent and back to angry. So using the Firework removes their infinite Ambivalent status.
Hey King! I was thinking of doing your pitiful worm run, but with the omnivore cell mouth. The goal would be to finish as blue on every stage, the biggest difference would be doing civ on economic xD would you be insterested?
Good luck! I was planning on something similar, at least 1 more pitiful worm run to do Economic with the worst vehicles. I have some other ideas for it too!
Could you try speedrunning Every Badge except the Joker on max level? I know, this is a big one, but I've never seen anything like it, and I believe you'll find a way to get through this quick
this one might be more annoying than entertaining, but the concept is certainly interesting: how little play time can you take on a save with arbitrary amounts of assistance from *another* (space-stage) save? is there anything you could do to a civilization stage save that could accelerate it? do monoliths work on other saves? can you damage rival tribes?
I have a couple of speedruns where I used the planet sculpting tools for Tribal and Civilization Stage. In Tribal we can make it so only 1 other rival tribe spawns by removing enough of the land. And in Civ there can be only 4 total city spawns by completely covering the planet with land! Making for really fast speedruns! Placing Monoliths or changing home planets too much like changing the Terra-Score will make that home planet no longer available to by played on from the main menu unfortunately. The game will replace it with another one somewhere else in the galaxy.
I don't think there's a way to do that without modding, and then your HP increases through Creature stage too. You'd probably have to code your own mod for it, unfortunately.
I play Spore in 30 frames, but the mouse is recorded in 60 because it looks smoother. I'm used to the game running in 30 fps since this is required for speedruns and can have some minor effects on game physics when the frame rate is increased, but it's totally possible to play in higher frame rates, described here :) www.reddit.com/r/Spore/comments/30qip5/how_to_play_spore_at_60_fps_remove_the_30_fps/
