  • In this video I wanted to test out the mac mini, and see if there is any slower export times, when using external SSD, like the crucial X6 or the Samsung T7. the results actually surprised me.

    Not surprising that render times doesn’t have any conection with the ssd. Just ram and cpu. Make another video with the differences in timeline working

    Thank you, this video really help. I just realized that the write speed actually depend on the processing power of the PC.

    I had seen a cheaper price for x6 in my amazon sale here..however I was afraid to buy since it had only 500 gb ..would this affect the editing speed ?for some reason I went for Samsung t7 shield 1 tb..maybe its more future proof and faster ? for m1 Mac users

    is a 500 gb crucial x6 slower than a 1 tb version ?

    Excellent production Tom! A very interesting test. I mainly use Samsung T7 SSDs (also T5 and T3). I also have a couple of the SanDisk SSDs. They all work well with my M1 Mac mini (16GB; 1TB). I must have a look at the Crucial SSDs. Unlike you, I haven't performed any tests as to the export speeds from Final Cut Pro. Thanks again for your dedication in producing these great videos - very informative, and very much appreciated. 👍⭐

      I was actually quite surprised.
      I was so sure the internal would perform at least 10sec faster. But nope.

    I found it confusing at 1:16 when you say "mega bytes" but the units written are "mb", which tecnically mean "millibits". Mega is a capital M, bytes is a capital B, bits is a lower case b. So, now I don't know if you mean megabits or megabytes, and I will move on to the next video for this reason. Cheers!

      Whats life without whimsy. When i talk about megapixels i say mega pickels. ;)
      Besides you are missing the point if you are confused about mili or mega bytes.
      The point of the video is that the speed of the ssd doesnt matter.
      Ps. With a 97% like/dislike ratio most people seemed to get it. So..

    If I edit on a time line of 2 hours will this ssd work without delay on fcp ?

    Does editing on an external SD cause any type of frame drops or anything like that?

    Hi Dear, I am planning to buy M2 max 16 inch Base model which is 1 TB - So if i use external ssd how to use them ? like i upload all the videos in the ssd and the start editing then its connected to the laptop ??

    • @TSCameraGear
      @TSCameraGear  ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. You have your videos on the external SSD. And when you edit, you use the files on the SSD while its connected to the macbook.

    Hi my friend! Im gonna start a new youtube channel and im buying the necessary gear to make videos. I dont understand very much about Ssd. Can you recommend to me a good and reliable ssd for 4k 60 fps videos. I will record with an iphone and i have a macbook pro m2 14 inch. Thank you:)

    • @TSCameraGear
      @TSCameraGear  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      ANY ssd is good enough for 4K 60FPS. If you wanna play it safe, just get the samsung T7. Links in video description.

    This is not that surprising, because the exporting is dependent on the processor, and the processor is not writing the export to the disk faster than a speed of an HDD. On the other hand, editing is faster in SSDs because it requires a very quick read and write of complete clips from different sources. SSDs are too fast already, and exporting videos is not reaching these speeds currently

  • @CO8848_2
    @CO8848_2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not shocking if you consider the write speed at 500MB/s, the disk write is significantly faster than playback speed, while render is much slower. That means the disk is always waiting for the CPU to generate data to write to it.

    • @TSCameraGear
      @TSCameraGear  ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, it makes sense when you put it like that.
      But I was still surprised.

      So you saying there not too many benefits of having these super fast external drives??
      5000-1000 should be fine. after that is overkill ?
