In this video I restore a vintage Schoolmaster's desk by Abbess and give it a rustic, look. I employ many woodworking techniques to save the original desk top and repair broken wood pieces, joints and veneer.

As a State employee, I was chained to one of those desks for decades. I'm grateful you were able to remove all the evidence of redundant paperwork & triplicate memos, the lingering traces of overbearing useless oversight and anachronistic regressive policy changes to create a nexus for art. Art is happiness!

I’m loving the awesome humor that you have in this video! One thing I learned on another channel is that oxalic acid is extremely toxic. On that channel after it dries he washes the wood with lots of water to keep the dried crystals from going airborn. Then he has a squeegee to wipe the water off and uses a towel. He also washes the floor if the solution spilled because it is dangerous for his dog to walk on it and possibly lick it off. Since you use it routinely, this could be a big health risk for you and your kitty. I just want to help you stay healthy and live a long good life! 😊 The info online I found is from a beekeeper site, but I’m sure it is applicable to all who use that product. Loving your videos and what a good person you are!

@@Flippingdrawersit isn't really possible to "neutralise" oxalic acid without a strong alkali, though calcium does bond to it... I guess rinsing multiple times would help

I’m old enough to remember those desks, and thoroughly enjoyed your restoring it so beautifully. One of the best features of desks at that time was the pull-out boards on either side. Brought back a memory: Many years ago at work my supervisor couldn’t find the time cards (non-digital times). We all searched everywhere, with no luck. Later, he pulled out the extension board on his desk. The time cards were on top of the board, right where he had left them when he closed the board.

Your comments are overwhelmingly positive. I wish that those of you that have that amazing artistic vision realized that most of us don't have it and are in awe. Look at those relative comments and revel in your gift. That being said, don't back down. When it's yours and it makes you happy, leave it. The majority of us don't have enough artistry to fill a thimble. Remember that when people give you their opinion. Do it your way and KNOW that it's right. We have a saying where I come from. When people tell you what to do and you don't agree, tell them to "bite a hog".

I used to have a desk identical to that one. I got it when my office changed to new desks, yes it was an old teacher's school desk. I really loved that desk and was sad to leave it behind when I left my husband... Being very fair, I made sure he got half of everything that was actually all mine to start with... but no problem, in the end I am happier. As usual, you did a wonderful job restoring it and so nice to see a kitty visitor as well... Thanks for all your interesting videos...

I know your pain in removing the finish and sealant. We did the dashboard of a 1962 Jaguar. We ended up removing the veneer and reapplying new. What a task that was. Your comment to saving the pieces is wonderful.

Your sense of humor is as extraordinarily sharp as your restoration skills....a very fine combination of personal values in my opinion...of course.

Congratulations! That pretty kitty may have adopted you!
WOW! THAT DESK IS INCREDIBLE! The contrast is super. The top reminds me of a blackboard. Those drawer handles are a great choice! That top piece was so that papers could not accidentally slide off the desk, (also apples)!

I am jealous because you have such a neat desk now. I love old furniture that has been restored and old desks are one of my favorite pieces.

I burst out laughing watching the 'snorting' the sawdust bit. I love videos where the restorer is clearly enjoying the process, and putting something like that in a video is just a great bit of comedy.

I'm glad you kept this beautiful desk for your own use. I especially like the dark drawer pulls that pick up the color of the desk top.
