Thanks, very helpful, even with the manual at hand. Is this job doable without removing the alternator? I prefer to leave things in place when I can, especially on older cars where bolts may have gotten crusty. How to ensure the right aftermarket thermostat housing, other than buying straight from Ford (which comes incomplete I read above?). On part supplier websites I get many different types.
I replaced my thermostat with an aftermarket one in an attempt to solve overheating that started after a garage replaced my thermostat as part of a service. Because this thermostat goes on the lower radiator hose it occured to me that the jiggle pin air valve might be backwards, leaving the system unable to clear an air lock. Coolant normally flows from the spring to the face of a thermostat but in this engine it is the reverse. I removed the pin, leaving a small hole. The overheating was solved.
@@HaynesManuals Purchased the thermostat from Ford. Sadly it does not come with the heater port seal. Pretty daft you don't get all the parts to complete the replacement as would be crazy not to replace both seals after the effort of draining it down.
this is all very good if you own a 1.6 but i own a 1.8 2002 ford focus, can you do a video on that engine please as ive got to replace the thermostat housing and thermostat
Thank you for your explanation
Helped me a lot . God bless good people! 👍
You are welcome!
Thank you for clarifying what is the measurement of the degree of opening the valve
Awesome video I’m currently replacing my thermostat but I’ve come across a rounded off 8mm bolt on the thermostat housing , now I’m stuck 😢

At 6.25 How did they start the engine before re-connecting the battery ?
Thanks for your comment, and apologies for the editing error.

My battery in longways it not straight forward as you show it.
does the replacement thermostart come with both gasket seals?
I think so, but best to check with a parts supplier

Sorry, we've no immediate plans to produce that video. Probably best to buy the Haynes manual instead!
@@HaynesManuals ive got the haynes manual just a video is a lot easier to follow
Ah..good, thanks for buying the manual. We'll start producing videos again once the virus situation is sorted out.
Easier on 1.8 near coil pack
I got 1.8 taking off drive belt everything like that wouldn't of thought all that just to get thermo off
