    Great breakdown and very to the point!
    For those looking to buy/build PC, remember that the graphics card is going to make the biggest difference in render times and viewport performance so put as much of your budget there (especially for getting 8gb of VRAM), Blender is well optimized for Nvidia cards. don't skimp on RAM and try and get 32GB. Also leave enough money for a decent monitor as that's what you are going to be staring at for hours

    Hypothetically speaking, what would the best laptop be for editing a Smeaf video whilst in another county.

    • @stevefuncke9798
      @stevefuncke9798 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Smeaf. MacBook Pro 14 inch is probably the best all-round for video editing on the go. The competition is usually very lacking in battery life. If you will always have outlet access and prefer a windows system, you can go for something with a powerful NV GPU and do some rendering on the go as well.

    So, one thing I've been wondering about for a while now is, how can I speed up physics simulations in Blender via hardware?
    Because all the guides and benchmarks seem to focus on rendering, and that's it. I've read in a reddit post that blender sims are CPU bound and single-threaded. But it's reddit, I take those comments with a whole salt shaker.
    Nevertheless, I'm getting a i5-13600KF anyway, just for the great value, yet I'm still curious if that's gonna help with physics.

    • @stevefuncke9798
      @stevefuncke9798 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve been wondering the same thing and couldn’t find definitive testing about it on YT. From what I can gather, some tasks use a few threads and others might benefit more from having more cores and threads. I’m sure the i5 will crush it for you though. That CPU is a beast at just about everything and has very high frequency, so you’ll be right up there with all the pro workstations.

    • @stevefuncke9798
      @stevefuncke9798 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      32GB is fine for most things, including Blender. Especially since he’s got so much VRAM with the 4090. I’d suggest 64GB or higher for a high-end workstation though. But I’d also suggest going with a 13th gen i5 or higher CPU and decently fast DDR5 memory if you’re not budget constrained.

    Nice, but can I also recommend that you get 2x gas spring monitor arms and (VESA) mount them on the back of your desk? Then you get more space on your desk and it feels less cluttered. I wish you also talked about that little white box behind the monitor (not the speaker) :)
    One could argue that it's the most important part of any setup. You can put multiple cores and gpus in a case, but if you can lose all your creations any minute then it's a bit risky.
    I just think data backup is severly overlooked by creatives using computers and often only taken into consideration when it's already too late. Each time someone talks about their setup I'm banging on about this, but I've lost all my data once and wouldn't wish that on anyone else.

    • @rootsandstones
      @rootsandstones ปีที่แล้ว

      But please have a backup in a different location too. At a friends place or in the cloud, just not in the same room. If there is a fire or water damage, you'll lose everything.

    Great hardware, the most important for graphics work is the graphics card, and that 4090 is a beast. Love the Sony A7 mkIII you said that you take it out to film, all the plugging and unplugging can break ports maybe get a 2nd hand Sony A6100 for your desk setup which you can leave all plugged in for streaming, it works with camlink, has clean HDMI out, APS-c sensor, 4k (not needed for streaming)

      @stevefuncke9798 ปีที่แล้ว

      At least 32GB RAM, NVIDIA 4070 Ti or higher, Intel i5 13th gen or AMD Ryzen 7600 (or higher). If you are planning to render on your device (i.e. Blender cycles), make sure you get the best GPU you can afford with your build budget. If you’re not too worried about rendering speed or designing complex environments (kinda sounds like you’re doing character design maybe?), you might wait for lower-end NVIDIA GPUs and see how they perform in the programs you care about most - they are pretty expensive right now. Your setup would be similar to a mid-high end gaming PC.
