These credit card features can be crucial! I had a pair of Gucci sandals and a bottle of Creed Cologne stolen out of my luggage by Mexico Customs at the Cancun airport. I booked everything for my trip on my Chase Sapphire Preferred. Luckily, I saved the original purchase receipts for both items. Chase literally refunded me the amount for both items at full retail! I was super impressed with how Chase handled the whole situation. 👍
Someone should make a comprehensive table of all cards that have this benefit, including amount of coverage, qualifying reasons, time requirements, etc.
I admire the fact that Ben, despite the snow breaking through his roof and snowing on him as he made the video, continued to report on how we can get the most value out of our credit cards.
These are a couple of those benefits that a lot of us overlook when we apply for new cards. But in times like these, they could really come in handy! This is just another reason that using a credit card rather than a debit card can be so beneficial if you use them responsibly. Thanks for sharing Ben!
As someone who lives in the southwest, I resent the joke about the cold. 😜 we get snow and heat where I live! But as for the video, great stuff as always Ben!
Its funny that I be hoping for that delayed flight at the 6 hour point when I'm traveling back home so I can take advantage of the insurance through my Ritz Carlton Card. I'm near retirement so I'm never in any rush to get back home from a vacation!!! I've came close twice though!
Really helpful! I’ve never used these insurances. Our Christmas cancelation story was a bit complicated because we booked on Southwest with companion pass and used Southwest Priority credit card and we had to switch to Delta. We didn’t want to deal with the hassle and were satisfied with getting our Southwest money back as a credit.
Does this insurance apply when traveling via vehicle to a destination that which requires driving through areas that have been deemed "winter weather storm" areas that have been made them impassable due to the heavy snowfall and road closures?
So with Venture X...you have up to $500 to spend on meals, lodging, and toiletries? Would clothes count ? Im thinking a new wardrobe would be possible with this feature at PDX.
Oh wow great video lots of information thanks for sharing, I do have a question when it comes to total spend to get your intro bonus if I use any of the credits like Global entry $100 does that count towards the total spend? Looking for clarification. Thanks and keep up the good work and content
@Ben Hedges or anyone that knows... Would this still apply if I purchased my ticket by transferring Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest and using those points to purchase the ticket? I did use my CSP to pay the tax when booking the flight since you cannot use points to pay for taxes. Thanks to anyone in advance!
I 2nd this, as it does say with rewards earned, what if instead they have been transferred to travel partners, I think most of us do transfer the points out, if not then it would actually be beneficial to know if it be best to sometimes book through Chase directly just for the benefit of being covered.
Ben, or any other person interested in helping, I have a huge car repair coming up, that's going to cost me $2900 (ouch). My plan is to use 4x new credit cards, which have sign up bonuses, to reduce my bill to $2100. I have the cash to cover the repair, however, I'm a frugal person, and like to figure out ways to reduce my cost. Credit score fluctuates between 800 & 820. Do you, or anyone else, see any flaws in this plan, or have any suggestions as to how I can improve it? Appreciate any feedback you have to offer.
First time here…big like and new subscriber…thank you for a great video…as you might guess I got stuck in the southwest mess with my Citi custom cash card…which as you mentioned at the end not so good…I am looking at Chase Sapphire Preferred and wonder if you or anyone here has experience with the Bilt Mastercard? On the surface seems like it gives rewards on paying rent and has some travel insurance and no annual fee…taking opinions or thoughts :) thank you again great content..now on to more of your videos :)
For trip delay/interruption, parents are covered. For lost baggage, parents are not covered. This is why it’s important to read the terms and conditions of insurance.
Through Amex it's anything booked with the card, that is paid for using the card, you don't have to use their concierge to get the flight cancellation insurance. I would imagine it is the same with the other brands as well, I just don't know for sure conclusively for them.
So let's say you used the CSP to book the plane ticket that was interrupted. And as a result, you had to book hotel rooms. Would you also need to book the rooms on the CSP in order for them to be reimbursed? Or could you book the room on a different (better) credit card from a different bank and still get the refund with just a receipt from the hotel?
According to the video at 3:25, you should charge your claimed expenses to the same card initially booked for your travel. Would you be able to get charges from other cards covered? Possibly, but if you make your claim with your CSP, the safe route is to continue making purchases with your CSP.

Did you go through chase or the 3rd party that handles the travel insurance?
@@jaimeg9058 I believe it was the third party that Ben mentions in this video.

Points guy has something like that, works better on a website than in a video

Great video! Just thinking about this with the Southwest issues going on these past few days!

CHASE is the best CC for this IMO.

That would not count because they refunded it
@@dominick6131 thank you
If you book a flight with points through the csr travel portal would you still get these travel insurances?
Yes it still counts

Most probably yes, since you paid the taxes with it
Excellent question
7:28 why is AMEX blurred?
Ben be beefing with Amex @ 7:30 lol

Haha I literally thought about someone making this video when I heard about all the cancellations
Yeah subscribers mostly know about this, but I think there will be a lot of other people searching for info on it
Quick doubt does it cover for our parents under the family for chase sapphire preferred

does the flight have to be round trip like Amex trip delay insurance?
Does trip cancellation insurance only work if you booked through their portal though or just with the card period?

The incidental charges such as hotel can be booked with any card. only the initial flight must be booked with the csp

Why you blur out the amex logo👀?
They are nasty, Ben already got a mail from them for 2 or more times
What documents do you need to file a claim? The budget airlines don't seem to respond, concerned I won't be able to file a claim.
Flightware or third party sites should be fine
Ship that snow to the high sierras
Any reason in particular you blurred out the AMEX logo?
The bots started quick out the box today
Better read the list of eligible and excluded "Covered Losses" carefully or you'll be in for a rude shock. Ask me how I know.
1:05 So says Dave Ramsey (sarcasm)
👍
Eh. It's a reimbursement. I don't work for the credit card company.
