one of the interesting things about this game... you dont even need to do a second playthru to stop events from happening... if you reload the save after the event happened your character will know and be able to stop it by reloading (which is basically canon in this game) so if you fail to save someone for example... you can reload and now you have the ability to save them because your character knows..
I don't like the idea of doing save scumming for this game. I mean, whatever works for you but unless it's like I clicked the wrong button or it's something I could reasonably take back (like changing my mind mid in game discussion, or not understanding what I my options meant in a conversation). Undoing a death feels a lot like "life is strange" 's powers. I more enjoy sticking with my decisions in roleplaying games because I find it adds variety to the game and creates more interesting stories (imo). That's also why I always use harder challenges. Otherwise my decisions feel less impactful. Spoiler: Like the on time I decided to 1v1 a faceless😂 it was an "impossible" challenge on hard but meh that's why I carry half a grove of trees in my back pocket at all times and have the blue cards' values are wild item.
@@solsystem1342 except that in this game its canon to be able to save scum... because you know everything that happens in all possible realities/timelines so once you see it happen you know about it even if you go back... which is the only way to stop certain deaths on the first playthru.
All of the rest of exocolonist is good but, I think its characters shine the brightest. In no other game have I helped a friend through the crushing realization they will never be able to have children. And, no other game has allowed me to get drunk and crash on the couch with a friend and eat breakfast with their family. Those are just a couple of spoiler light examples of the incredible heart this game has. Let's just say, I've played the game twice and once it picked up on the tragedy I was leaning into roleplay wise and the other was one of my favorite moments in all of gaming (no spoilers). I hope we see many more games explore longform narratives in this way in the future. Loved the review
@@Jarboe420 Ok, spoilers for this discussion Yes, certainly it could be a good thing for some people but as a transfem person the gut punch of Tang (a trans women) realizing she'll never be able to carry a pregnancy is so brutally real. Like, I felt like the game was reflecting my own feelings I was struggling with which it just so validating when you don't get to discuss it elsewhere.
This was a year ago but this is genuinely one of my favorite games. The music, art, and story is just so good in my opinionnn I very much enjoy the game!!
The "Life on Earth" endings are actually curious. Even after destroying this side of the wormhole, some connection to Vertumnia's remains, trapping you in the loop, but on Earth (though the shock of change seems to temporarily erase your memory or something, taking your old self time to return as it adjusts to the change). This shows Vertumnia is quite litterally a part of you, and you need to understand both the planet and the wormhole so one day you might actually do something productive with the wormhole or escape (I'm actually glad, I meant what I said when I thought the planet as my character's home, don't want any temptations about leaving). I'm gonna feel guilty about getting the endings...but a God must go through the bottom too.
RPGamer is still around????? Holy sh*t! How you guys been? I used to frequent your site every month to find out what games were being released in Japan but not in NA.
bought this after hearing from quite a few folks about its wonderfully inclusive setting and characters, and my god i'm so happy i decided to give this a try. this game's aesthetic and themes really strike a chord with me and the art style is absolutely beautiful 😍 and i always love visual novel/romance games that show the characters being friends as kids, it's so nice seeing them grow together i really hope this game starts gaining more traction, it's a fantastic experience that should not go overlooked!
I came here after losing Tammy in the first year and then my mother and father and the military take over all in subsequent years. I'm sort of demoralized at the moment but I'm gonna finish my first playthrough regardless of the decision I made.
I hope you had a better time, the first run is always soul crushing but being able to see these events coming in the second and try fixing everything feels like a high

I wish I knew this during my first playthrough T_T
@@0Solar_Eclipse0 me too 😭
In terms of story, if you load from an earlier save you're no longer on the same run.

This is a great game. I’ve beaten it around ten times. It’s adorable and heart-rending and uplifting

That sounds genuinely awful.

Crushing realization they will never be able to have children, to some that's a good thing not everyone wants or needs kids.

Great game just leaves me wanting more like it and i cant for the life of me find any other than Growing Up.
If you find one please tell me! Love RPGs and the story and romance, seems to be the only one with all of them
You’re right wood this does look like my kinda game I’ll have to check it out

Am I the only one who stoped the plague on my first life and became a Gardener on my second ?
