As retired military I can assure you "thumping" or "bumping" is the friendliest way an interceptor pilots says "get out of my airspace" before engaging the targeting radar.

It is a RC-135 operated by the USAF, basically everyone know it’s a surveillance aircraft. Besides it is operating in the South China Sea which technically speaking isn’t China’s territory (although China claim it is)

As far as I know "south china sea" (west Philippine sea) is not really chinas. So if the us is patrolling within wps we allow them in fact all the neighbors of china allows them we would even infact appreciate it.

The Philippines have ZERO claim on the Spratly Islands.
Other countries, like _Vietnam,_ can claim historical ownership. But not the Philippines. For the simple reason that the Philippines as a country was formed by way of treaty between two other countries. And those treaties very clearly define the limits of Philippines territory.
And the icing on the cake is that the Philippines constitution acknowledges those treaties.

They dont care. This sort of flyby is more a formal dance than an actual threat. They need to do it to maintain appearances but anything they want hidden is well hidden. Same goes for Russia, the USA and any other country with something worth hiding. The news latches on to these things because it gives people something to talk about, keeps us nervous/worried, gives us something to look at and say see so and so are dangerous and reckless. We will never be privy to the real machinations of international politics only what we are told.
