    cool review, you can see how intimidating it might be for someone without 3D printer experience, but you cover even the failures and how to rectify them, so I dont see a problem for a noob to set up the BTT Klipper Pad7 thanks to your review

    Thanks for THAT video! I asked myself if I should turn my old Ender 3 into a Klipper system and thought: nah, its fiddeling around with Linux, find out what to do to get it working in thousands of videos, forums and google sessions and hacking that into config-files ... and now you have shown me, it is true ;-)

      It's 10% setup, 90% tweaking. So yeah, it's not for the feint of heart.

      @@BenHeckHacks And then you start tweaking the slicer....... That's why Klipper makes more sense for Printer manufacturers - they can do all of the heavy tweaking and optimizing for you - same for the slicer. They are getting a lot closer to "plug and print" with the new core x-y machines, though. I'm forcing myself to not be an early adopter this time. I am still interested to use this Pad7 or the Creality version for my very large bed slingers.

    As an Aussie, I always found the other countries plugs to be weird and kinda ugly. But then I thought, 'who wouldn't think that about foreign plugs they're not used to?'. Today you validated it, the Australian plug IS the coolest 🥳

    • @paulwratt

    what's wrong with the UK plug? it has an earth pin which makes things safer, and the earth pin opens a shield built in to the socket which makes things safer again.

    Klipper is very promising, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to go through reconfiguring my Ender 3 once again. 😅 I didn't expect the setup and configuring to be as involved as it was for you. After solving a multitude of frustrating issues on my Ender 3 to just have the X axis driver chip fail on my BTT SKR mini v1.2 (I guess this is a common failure - purchased in 2019 so the warranty is now expired). I’m ready for 3D printers as an appliance. I look forward to your Bambu labs review as you are one of the most scrupulous tech reviewers on YoutTube.

    CB1 is CM4 compatable. It is the standard that raspberry created, Rock64 also has a board that is compatible. Also would be curious if the cancel print has the obtuse disable steppers in it. Makes it a pita if you have a blob and need to clean it off while its hot. -- edit yeah should a watched a bit more, why does btt change that behavior!?!

  • @Ojref1
    @Ojref1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think your z-banding issues are related to pressure advance. The speed changes going into direction changes - aka corners, inerta of the extruder head assembly and the extruders filament feed speed all play into that and need fine tuning. Its too bad these printer companies don't really spend much time tuning that and leave it to the end users to deal with.

  • @scharkalvin
    @scharkalvin ปีที่แล้ว

    I added an inductive probe to my Ender-3 Pro, It's wired into the board where the BLtouch would go (only the switch, NOT using the servo). So I still have the z end stop switch hooked up. I guess I can use it like you used the BLtouch, but I don't trigger the servo to extract a probe, just move the Z axis down to the bed. Still need to get the X/Y/Z offsets from the probe in the config file though.
    I still have the factory firmware in my Ender-3. It has the 32 bit board, and I'm sure there is a boot loader....just put the new firmware on the SD card, and give it the correct name, and it should load on power up.

    I'd think that you could use an old laptop instead of a RPi to run clipper. I have an old Thinkpad T400 that is not being used. It has a coreII processor with 8gb or ram. It can run Linux, it should run Klipper and I can put it on my home LAN to connect to my desktop, and it will just plug into the printer's USB port.

      @@BenHeckHacks So I installed Debian 12 on my old thinkpad T400 without any desktop firmware. I enabled SSH and it's now a 'headless' server. I installed kuiah, and from that installed klipper, moonraker, mainsail and octoprint. Now I need to figure out how to set up klipper firmware and build it for the Ender Pro 3 ( I seem to have the 32 bit board with the extra flash) but I'm not sure of all of the various options in the build firmware kulah script. It took me a while to figure out that I had to add myself to the sudo group before kulah would even install klipper.

    there's nothing really special about a raspberry pi (apart from everyone thinking there is and them therefore being impossible to find). you should be able to install the software on reasonably powerful SBC like an Orange PI 5, Odroid C4, Banana Pi M5, Rock 3A, etc... even those are all probably overkill for this use-case, though.

      I think the main issue might be that if it's not hardware the developers of Klipper frequently test with, you might run into more bugs. Luckily I collected a few pi before 2019, so had no issues finding one, in fact since I was already using octoprint on a pi 3b was easy as swapping sd cards.

    It would be cool to connect a set of AI tools with a slicer, Klipper and Alexa... then ask Alexa to design and print a part with a description of a problem, optionally including a quick photo of some interface with a ruler for measurement estimates. It should then make sensible choices about part splitting, rotation and supports, and it should warn you about filament changes, failures with spagettificatio detectionn, etc. It would be cool to live in a world where a manufacturer of appliances would generally publish cad models of the parts in a global publicly available database. You could then ask Alexa about a new part that would connect to a shop vacuum you bought a few years ago, leaving Alexa to look at your purchase history, look up the model, download the cad files, have an AI tweak them with a set of constraints, etc.
