    My hubby and I are remodeling a 15 foot camper. I have a son named Seth, which is not a common name, and I used to live in ID (Coeur D'Alene). Neat coming across your vids. Def put a toilet in that closet! We picked up a porta potty cassette toilet from Amazon, which is similar to what we had in our pop-up. No need to plumb it to a black tank. Compact and they can be emptied in dump stations or even campground bathrooms. Best of luck to ya's.

      How cool that you have a son named Seth! It is a good name. We have met a few Seth's, and all of them have been awesome!
      Also, how cool that you live in Idaho. We want to come up your way and do the Hiawatha trail. There are so many cool things in Idaho!!
      Joncee's sister bought her a cassette toilet for her birthday, so we have one in the trailer now! 😊

      @@SethandJoncee I don't live in Idaho anymore. Just did for a few months in 2002, had family out that way but employment was tough. Moved back to CT. In 2021 we did a 2 week cross country road trip and free camped for 8 out of 13 nights. We took the rear seats out of our van, threw a futon mattress in, and slept in it till we needed a shower. 😂 Was great to see Montana, Idaho, & Washington again. But y'all gotta come to the east coast now, New England is beautiful too!
      Yay for cassette toilets as Birthday gifts! 😂 If ya know, ya know!

    I just stumbled across your channel. Love these trailer rebuild videos. From time time I’ll put in suggestive comment. Hopefully you won’t take it wrong. I’ve been playing with RV for quite a few years. That being said, I’m anxious to keep up with your progress. My first recommendation is to mount the batteries on the hitch. They need to be able to expel the highly flammable toxic gases that they naturally sluff off.

    That's the exact one my parents had when I was growing up. ❤ In ours, the closet was a toilet room and our fridge was where the mirror is on yours. I always slept on the bunk and I loved the little windows. Ours didn't have wings either. They got rid of it when they got divorced.💔 I'd love to find one like it and redo.

    • @SethandJoncee
      @SethandJoncee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome! I hope you find one to remodel. We are hoping to put a bathroom in the closet like how you described. Hopefully it works out!

      @@SethandJoncee I hope I find one too. Watching your vid...I can smell how ours did. My best childhood memories were camping in it with my parents and little sister. Small campers aren't made as efficient anymore. You could fit 5 people in that one.

      @SethandJoncee  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know where you live, but I just happened to see this in my Facebook feed today and thought of you. the fridge looks like it is where you mentioned. this looks like it may be a lot of work, but could be a great trailer with lots of memories for you!! 😊 We don't know the seller or have any more info. let us know if you find one!!

    Almost all camper hardware and lights can be sourced from general parts, Harbor freight, ect.
    Use it a few times before modifying it too much.
    Keep it lightweight and good luck.

    • @SethandJoncee
      @SethandJoncee  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Erik! We always forget about harbor freight, so that is a good reminder!

      I should be posting a video on my channel on how to change all those clearance lights to use leds for $1...for all of them. 10 cents each. I already posted one of the brake lights. Best of luck. If you can see water issue inside, the wood structure is probably toast and it is not easy to fix without major teardown.

    No worries, if this is too personal.. but can I ask how much you paid for it? My husband and I are about to buy a vintage camper and I want to make sure we’re paying a reasonable price. Thanks for your time!

    • @SethandJoncee
      @SethandJoncee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      $3000 - In retrospect we would have gone with a $500 no name trailer rather than getting a Shasta. The water damage we found as we got into it was a lot more than we thought it would be! However I the Shasta will have better resale value and will be awesome when it is done!!

    If you want to keep that aluminum ball mount, get a very good locking pin.
    Also regularly inspect that aluminum ball mount for any sign of cracking ,stretching, fatigue in any way. The Shasta is a lightweight trailer ,but keep an eye on that ball mount to be safe. I am not a fan of using aluminum for load bearing applications, especially when that load is not static. (Bouncing and jarring to a stop). Steel has higher tensile and sheer strength . I am sure it is a quality product, extensive testing and engineering went into it. Don't get me wrong. Aluminum just makes me nervous in that application.

      Thanks for this tip! We are total newbs so just got what was available. We will probably switch to steel adventually. I really appreciate your advice!!

      Also be mindful when loading , be more careful about anything heavy behind the axel.
      To much weight in the rear of a trailer will make is sway back and forth till you jack knife. Once it starts ,it can be to late to stop it! I have towed some pretty heavy trailers , doubble check ✔ every conection point .
      Use some EP grease on the ball .
      Make sure your saftey chains and wiring harness is safely routed ,with just enough slack to make a good turn.
      Even a small travel trailer can cause a major accident, if something goes wrong.
      Be safe and enjoy your new endeavor!
      Check your saftey chains ,they are rated for your trailer and not worn out from dragging the road. One bad link is as bad as no saftey chain at all.

    • @SethandJoncee

      Recently a truck pulling a trailer went over a bridge in our area, and was held from crashing into a canyon by the safety chain! Defiantly makes us want to make sure everything is safe and in working order.
      What does the EP grease on the ball do?
      Thanks for your help!

    Teardrops seem to be good for two people max. It would have gotten crowded with E-Man in there too.

      Eman is use to sleeping in a 3 person tent with us and our dog so a teardrop may have been big to him. He does now have his own tent...cuz he is growing into a man child. ☺️ I am glad we went with the trailer so we can all be comfortable and maybe even take some friends.
