I tried sun soul, I was super weak all the time, my dm let me switch yo way of the elements, that's WAY better for building a big arsenal of powers, since by lvl 17-18 you can pick any spell of 5th lvl or lower that does elemental dmg and you can use it, it's honestly surprisingly good

Here's my idea for a goku type character in D&D 5e. Varient human with the sentinel feat. Also getting Winged Boots ASAP for flight. Start with three levels in Totem Bear Barbarian to resist all damage (except psychic) and rage for that power up ability. Then 12 levels of Echo Fighter to get unarmed fighting (which is better than monk because you start at level one with a D8 damage die instead of Monks waiting until level 11), multiple attacks per round (especially with action surge and your Echo), and your Echo lets you be in two places at once. Finally 5 levels of Hexblade Warlock which gives you extra damage to hexed enemies and lets you crit on a 19 and a 20, while also giving you spells like Eldritch blast, fireball, etc. for the chi blasts Goku and others do in Dragonball.
Hero's Comeback from the start of Naruto Shippuden. Every time I hear that song, I get hyped. 3-2-1-Let's Make Some Noise!!!! Speaking of Naruto, how about a Kakashi Hatake build? Or maybe Sakura or Hinata? (Naruto and Sasuke are too difficult, I like you too much to ask that, but Kakashi and the girls are far more reasonable imo)
@@dndbuilds I solved this in my table with just a fighter with 3 attacks. Also with the regular extra attack, I allow my players to hold two weapons and chose to distribute the two attacks from the two weapons. Easy dual wielding without using bonus action and without using custom rules, more like thinking differently 😁
also what? no, that's...not quite how it works with SSJ. people thought ONLY people of pure heart could become a super Saiyan, but this was a misconception. Goku did to have to become enraged to transform, the scene was pretty iconic, his best friend died, and his other friend and son almost died as well. so yeah, he definitely became enraged
@@dndbuilds I mean, Vegeta achieved SSJ 2 via training before he was controlled by Babadi, but I'm not opposed to that interpretation, makes Goku whole thing a bit more long lasting impact wise. (Though technically in the Japanese dub he wasn't as heroic as his English dub counterpart)
Sadly it isn't. It comes close to scratching the DBZ Character PC itch, but the fact that things like the "spirit bomb", while yes radiant so less resisted than fire, targets Con not Dex, and has no save for half, means that a lot of the time you blow a ton of your most precious resource (ki) on literally just wasting your turn and contributing nothing but detriment to your party. This is compounded still further by the opposing strength derived from Stunning Strike, which is basically ALWAYS the best option for a monk to be doing in combat. I love the idea of the sun soul, I really do, but its just.. so contradictorily suboptimal (like giving a ranged ki blast option to the most mobile class in the game), with endless feel bads waiting to happen. In every game I've seen them played in (admittedly not many because people hate on monks) the DM house-ruled the class to help rebalance it and make it work.
@@RoxyGotMoxy. sun soul was carefully designed in a lab to contribute nothing to the monk. A subclassless monk with a shortbow is better. Every feature is a trap. Searing sunburst is not even worth your action at that level. Its a terrible version of fireball that you unlock 6 levels after casters get fireball.
I decided to use the "Ascendant Dragon" subclass since it seemed a bit closer to what goku might play as in D&D and could basically replicate most of the "Sun Soul" feats with out the Spirit Bomb playing as "The Spirit Bomb". I was also allowed to be a Yeren by my DM (meaning I have a tail and can possibly go full great ape monke when he so chooses so) and convinced them to give me a flying nimbus purely as hover movement cosmetic. either way, this video (as well as the sonic and batman one Ive watched awhile back) were a great way to add a little more spice to my character. though for obvious reasons, i can't really "call them" their "official" names. here's my sub too because you definitely earned it.
EDIT: I now realize I TOTALLY should have included the Thaumaturgy cantrip in there somewhere to enhance the power up screaming... missed opportunity Special thanks to darrin webber and Joshua _Elite for requesting this build Also I totally forgot to mention this background chosen gives proficiency in land vehicles, which works perfectly for the DBZ episode where Goku and Piccolo go to driving school, so it's even more of a perfect choice!
Is there an app or software that would let me make a sun soul character without spending a lot of money to buy extra packs. I want to make Goku for an all anime campaign im trying to set up but dnd beyond and prism both don’t seem to have this subclass
Depends on how you're running your game. There are sites to see the info and you could essentially just make it custom on DnD Beyond, but if you're playing on discord or pen and paper there are plenty of other options

Interesting... I ended up choosing Sun Soul monk levels 14 - 17 and 3 - 6 levels of Zealot Barbarian (though to be fair I was leaning SS4 Goku/Vageta) which seem to blend very well together. Zealot Barbarian not only helps survivability (aswell as be like their Rage induced transformations) But plays off how casually and often their revived from death (Zealot literally waving the cost so long as you have the spell, id also see with your dm about Divine fury applying to unarmed strikes, if not bring stick xD) the levels of the two vary based on how much of the Monks level 15 and higher abilities you want (with some being more flavorful than practical) As for Race depending how Great Ape you wanna be, I could see Aasimar, (beast hide) Shifter, or Hadozee The 1st giving flight and shiny saiyan like transformation, 2nd giving some added TempHp & AC, with the 3rd Offering you a climb speed, a permanent Glide ability in lue of temp flight or should flight fail (flavor as ki power rather than skin flaps) and the ability to reduce damage you take by 1d6+prof equal to you prof per Long Rest (show that Saiyan Resealiance!)

They actually have a new Monkey type race from Spelljammer, so definitely go that route, but probably a mix of Kensei Monk (focusing on the quarterstaff) with maybe some cleric for spiritual weapon, because the quarterstaff is a must.

Eh, I don't know about pissing off a DM with Stunning Strike. It's usually me getting frustrated because the target makes its save and laughs at my monk.
You tried. It really doesn't work at all though. The numbers were way way too low. What strength would you need to do a punch capable of destroying the universe? 8 seems low. Maybe 8 quadrillion?
This feels like it is just a Sun Soul build, not a Goku buile. Other than choosing Aasimar and the built in theme of the Sun Soul, this doesn't feel like Goku. It would have to be some kind of strength based monk for it to be on theme. Probably would need either fighter or barbarian levels to pull it off.

I would put barbarian a lot early on in a campaign you would become impossible to kill and become "super saiyan" I mean rage and eventually also have an aura and if you wanted to be vageta that would also making barbarian more fitting
Yeah I would definitely build Vegeta much differently than I would build Goku. Goku can go Super Saiyan with a pure heart (still often relying on rage though), but most other Saiyans would definitely need Rage. I would love to do a Vegeta and maybe a Broly build in the future, because they would each be very different.

Yes the are monkeys but like the sahuagin and the yuan ti, who have a more human version of themselves. I dont see why a vanara couldn't be the same. There from Oriental adventures. The are a sun Wukong race so they are perfect. Interesting video though, I like the conversions to d&d.
There's actually a surprisingly accurate subclass in D&D that might fit shredder, but it's one of the worst subclasses in all of D&D, so I would definitely need to do a multi-class for shredder

Not going to crazy with that just going a bit beyond... Mixing three different statuses that you can achieve with this build brings in a whole other aspect, getting pretty close to ultra instinct
That would actually be pretty easy for the most part, there might be a few slightly difficult abilities though. I know a new Netflix Avatar show is supposed to come out, so I might try and do a build closer to when that show is supposed to be released

Sunbeam, and Sunburst thanks to being a Wizard you can have them as long as you have the slots for them in your spellbook, which you can then ready only what you need and can use in case your Spellbook disappears somehow, and plays into his intelligence?

Yeah as long as this video doesn't completely destroy my channel, it happens to be with the same animation company so I'm totally planning to do it I just don't want to do them back to back. And I was considering way of the four elements, but sun soul really just felt way too spot on. I'm pretty sure the publishers behind D&D were targeting this type of character with that subclass
Hate to be this guy but I found out the hard way, soooooo here it goes. Deflect missiles doesn’t count toward ranged spell attacks that is implied here. It only counts toward ranged spell attacks. You can’t just grab ice knife and throw it back
I'm getting back at Metal Gear Phantom Pain, and I would like to ask for a Snake build, mainly Venom Snake, but in terms of gameplay it doesn't really matter, although "Solid Snake" in the title would catch the attention of a greater amount of people. What I imagine is a Gunk (gun monk, watch Pack Tactics' video for more information about the topic). With maybe two or a few more levels in Rogue for Cunning Action and Expertise in Stealth and Atlethics to grapple people (maybe proficiency, but not expertise in Acrobatics, doing flashy tricks is more Raiden's style).
Pack Tactics' video recomends 5-Shadow Monk/1-Fighter for the Archery fighting style, you wanna reach level 5 in Monk as soon as posible. Assassin Rogue really feels like the way to go, it recomends 4 levels to get your subclass features and an ASI. I like going on with Monk for the rest of the way, Shadow Arts has a lot of Snake stuff to stealth around and being better at night, besides Minor Ilusion can be used for some fun decoys and cardboard boxes. Shadow Step and Cloak of Shadows may feel out of character in this situation, but... Isn't exactly that what Snake does?, when he is out of his enemy line of sight he could pretty much attack from anywhere and remain unseen as long as he'd like. Anyway, I have a clear Mental Image in my head, but I would like to see YOUR version of the character.
He's definitely in the running for a build coming up as a few people have requested him now. I'm going to be throwing up a vote on my Patreon for who the next build is, between 3 different builds, and Solid Snake will be one of those choices.
That's actually a really solid choice (FMA's), I have that one included in my Anime playlist I throw on from time to time. It's such a good well rounded song mixing highs and lows for energy so you get an interesting mix. (I immediately went to play it as soon as you mentioned it)
That jazz intro from Cowboy Bebop is definitely awesome I have considered Naruto/Sasuke, although they can be a little difficult because the characters change so much over the course of the series, so figuring out the right version to use is the only difficult part. Bleach, I definitely plan to do in the near future The Mages from Fairytale, I actually have been wanting to touch on for a some good element themed builds.
What about a paladin class, he is pure of heart, is trained by gods and when he achieves ultra instinct has that white greyish hair and aura color which looks like some kind of warrior angel.
I did consider that a little bit, but then I'd have to focus on one more ability score, and technically paladins aren't supposed to be able to smite with unarmed attacks, even though I don't agree with that rule, the folks over at D&D did establish that at one point.
I mean I didn't do a multi class, just because it worked so well without it. But if you really wanted to do some sort of multiclass, you could mess with the stats a bit and focus more on strength, because I have had some success multi-classing monk with barbarian. But another great choice is fighter, especially with Goku's fighting spirit, and with relatively few levels in fighter you can get action surge doubling the amount of stuff you can do with your action, and you can get a fighting style, but if you're already a monk you don't want to grab unarmed fighting so just grab defense or something. Another totally different choice would be something like a cleric since you do have wisdom already, and if you went with something like a light cleric you could pull off the solar flare that krillin does, but there's plenty of good choices when it comes to a cleric subclass
would personally start in Fighter and take unarmed fighting, then go barbarian, then probably a paladin - finally sorcerer. smites could totally be reflavored into ki abilities and sorcerer to fuel those guys. alternatively go Warlock and reflavor eldritch blast
Insight is probably the most in character choice for goku's second skill from Monk. He's very good at discerning weaknesses and openings in people, particularly during combat. Just as an alternative to Stealth.
It might be tough for me to figure out how to do because I'm relatively new to proper DND however I not only want to make this build or something similar but I want to fuse it with a another character I really like Basically I just want to make super saiyan Godzilla In his base form he would be a strong monk character that looks like Zilla from the Godzilla cartoon series This would mean that he'd probably be a mix between a half dragon and a dragonborn which could lead to an interesting origin But basically as he would power up into different super Saiyan States he would transform to resemble different versions of Godzilla Whenever he Powers up the first time he would go from looking like zilla to a mix of heisei and legendary Godzilla with a tiny bit of Zilla still there so that's how you could tell that's what he transformed from Whenever he Powers up and unlocks the ability of flight it looks like a space Godzilla variant of the same character and then whenever he's got all of his buffs working at the same time it is at his absolute strongest he would look like the NES super Godzilla but cooler The transformation to you would go through wouldn't necessarily change anything about him gameplay Wise it's just whenever he Powers up he would have a visual transformation to indicate the new power level he's at The transformations themselves could be both a good thing and a bad thing if they do get implemented into gameplay though After all I'd be intimidating to see a dinosaur dragon looking character start glowing and transform into a crazier version of itself But then again anyone who's fought the character enough times would know exactly what to expect whenever the individual transforms meaning that it could also act as an indicator to anyone who isn't intimidated as to what the characters now capable of All in all this video has inspired me to make super saiyan Godzilla that I will either name Sarah or dagon and I'm very happy about it
I have to be honest... I have absolutely NO IDEA... I'm not overly familiar with 3.5e so I wouldn't even know where to start other than still going Monk for most of it as there's still a heavy reliance on Martial Arts. But I don't know how the feats, multiclassing, or even subclasses work or if they even existed in 3.5e. Sorry, I wish I could be more help, but 95% of my experience has been in 5th Edition

Definitely plan to, the big question is whether to go with the Artist interpretation (include all sorts of flames and waves) or what it's supposed to represent (just truly intense sword fighting)
I could give him a shot, I feel like it's only inevitable that I'll wind up doing most of the core Dragon Ball characters over time because each one would be fairly different, even just doing Vegeta vs Goku would be a totally different build. But I can start thinking of how Jiren would work.
I think that's one of the first requests have gotten for one of the Androids, I hadn't even really considered them yet, I definitely would do a build on them though, probably a combo of 17 and 18 since they are pretty similar

I've been thinking how to home brew UI and UE into DND and this is what I have so far: Requirments: Class: Monk Level: 17 or higher UI: Can only be activated if your HP is 5 or lower if healed above 15 the form ends, must spend a Ki point to maintain the form at the start of everyone of your turns or the form end immediatly. You have advantage on Attacks, saving throws (if you suceed on a saving throw no damage is dealt to you for the rest of the turn). Enemies have disadvantage on attacks against you. Your AC is increased by 5 + monk lvl and you roll d12 for unarmed strikes UE: Can be activated any time, when activated gain 10 temp HP per monk lvl and reduce AC by 5 When your health is reduced by a spell or attack increase the number of dice you roll on attacks for your next turn by 1 for every 10 damaged dealt to you. If HP is reduced to 0 revert to 1 instead (once per long rest) Feedback would be appriciated
It's bad. and badly overpowered. The AC Boost alone is ridiculous, and destroys bounded accuracy at 17th level, you're likely having a 16 AC at worst more likely an 17 or 18, to which you want to add 23, not make it 23, add 23 to your ac... If you're not trolling, you have a bright future in trolling.

True, I know he did it the first time but I always interpreted it as he didn't need to for future transformations, but I could be wrong

@@benry007the eternal monk curse, to have other classes get the same stuff as them, but earlier and better.
You should do one of the human characters from DBZ. That way you can focus on how to build their moveset rather than a series of transformations.
I would totally build krillin, but I would just feel bad about yamcha

Interesting... I ended up choosing Sun Soul monk levels 14 - 17 and 3 - 6 levels of Zealot Barbarian (though to be fair I was leaning SS4 Goku/Vageta) which seem to blend very well together.
Zealot Barbarian not only helps survivability (aswell as be like their Rage induced transformations)
But plays off how casually and often their revived from death (Zealot literally waving the cost so long as you have the spell, id also see with your dm about Divine fury applying to unarmed strikes, if not bring stick xD) the levels of the two vary based on how much of the Monks level 15 and higher abilities you want (with some being more flavorful than practical)
As for Race depending how Great Ape you wanna be,
I could see Aasimar,
(beast hide) Shifter,
or Hadozee
The 1st giving flight and shiny saiyan like transformation,
2nd giving some added TempHp & AC, with the 3rd
Offering you a climb speed, a permanent Glide ability in lue of temp flight or should flight fail (flavor as ki power rather than skin flaps) and the ability to reduce damage you take by 1d6+prof equal to you prof per Long Rest (show that Saiyan Resealiance!)

They actually have a new Monkey type race from Spelljammer, so definitely go that route, but probably a mix of Kensei Monk (focusing on the quarterstaff) with maybe some cleric for spiritual weapon, because the quarterstaff is a must.

Gods in D&D are like, lvl 30, min. Most appear to be 40+.. Soo, what's Goku's levels 21-40?
This feels like it is just a Sun Soul build, not a Goku buile. Other than choosing Aasimar and the built in theme of the Sun Soul, this doesn't feel like Goku. It would have to be some kind of strength based monk for it to be on theme. Probably would need either fighter or barbarian levels to pull it off.

I would put barbarian a lot early on in a campaign you would become impossible to kill and become "super saiyan" I mean rage and eventually also have an aura and if you wanted to be vageta that would also making barbarian more fitting
Yeah I would definitely build Vegeta much differently than I would build Goku. Goku can go Super Saiyan with a pure heart (still often relying on rage though), but most other Saiyans would definitely need Rage. I would love to do a Vegeta and maybe a Broly build in the future, because they would each be very different.

Yes the are monkeys but like the sahuagin and the yuan ti, who have a more human version of themselves. I dont see why a vanara couldn't be the same. There from Oriental adventures. The are a sun Wukong race so they are perfect. Interesting video though, I like the conversions to d&d.

There's actually a surprisingly accurate subclass in D&D that might fit shredder, but it's one of the worst subclasses in all of D&D, so I would definitely need to do a multi-class for shredder
I personally prefer Sun Wukong, but Son Goku is not that bad.

Not going to crazy with that just going a bit beyond... Mixing three different statuses that you can achieve with this build brings in a whole other aspect, getting pretty close to ultra instinct

And I was considering way of the four elements, but sun soul really just felt way too spot on. I'm pretty sure the publishers behind D&D were targeting this type of character with that subclass
Hate to be this guy but I found out the hard way, soooooo here it goes. Deflect missiles doesn’t count toward ranged spell attacks that is implied here. It only counts toward ranged spell attacks. You can’t just grab ice knife and throw it back
I'm getting back at Metal Gear Phantom Pain, and I would like to ask for a Snake build, mainly Venom Snake, but in terms of gameplay it doesn't really matter, although "Solid Snake" in the title would catch the attention of a greater amount of people.
What I imagine is a Gunk (gun monk, watch Pack Tactics' video for more information about the topic). With maybe two or a few more levels in Rogue for Cunning Action and Expertise in Stealth and Atlethics to grapple people (maybe proficiency, but not expertise in Acrobatics, doing flashy tricks is more Raiden's style).
Pack Tactics' video recomends 5-Shadow Monk/1-Fighter for the Archery fighting style, you wanna reach level 5 in Monk as soon as posible.
Assassin Rogue really feels like the way to go, it recomends 4 levels to get your subclass features and an ASI.
I like going on with Monk for the rest of the way, Shadow Arts has a lot of Snake stuff to stealth around and being better at night, besides Minor Ilusion can be used for some fun decoys and cardboard boxes.
Shadow Step and Cloak of Shadows may feel out of character in this situation, but... Isn't exactly that what Snake does?, when he is out of his enemy line of sight he could pretty much attack from anywhere and remain unseen as long as he'd like.
Anyway, I have a clear Mental Image in my head, but I would like to see YOUR version of the character.
He's definitely in the running for a build coming up as a few people have requested him now. I'm going to be throwing up a vote on my Patreon for who the next build is, between 3 different builds, and Solid Snake will be one of those choices.

That's actually a really solid choice (FMA's), I have that one included in my Anime playlist I throw on from time to time. It's such a good well rounded song mixing highs and lows for energy so you get an interesting mix.

I have considered Naruto/Sasuke, although they can be a little difficult because the characters change so much over the course of the series, so figuring out the right version to use is the only difficult part.

What about a paladin class, he is pure of heart, is trained by gods and when he achieves ultra instinct has that white greyish hair and aura color which looks like some kind of warrior angel.
I did consider that a little bit, but then I'd have to focus on one more ability score, and technically paladins aren't supposed to be able to smite with unarmed attacks, even though I don't agree with that rule, the folks over at D&D did establish that at one point.

What would be the best to choose for his multi class at level 3? I was thinking fighter but I’m not entirely sure
I mean I didn't do a multi class, just because it worked so well without it. But if you really wanted to do some sort of multiclass, you could mess with the stats a bit and focus more on strength, because I have had some success multi-classing monk with barbarian. But another great choice is fighter, especially with Goku's fighting spirit, and with relatively few levels in fighter you can get action surge doubling the amount of stuff you can do with your action, and you can get a fighting style, but if you're already a monk you don't want to grab unarmed fighting so just grab defense or something.
Another totally different choice would be something like a cleric since you do have wisdom already, and if you went with something like a light cleric you could pull off the solar flare that krillin does, but there's plenty of good choices when it comes to a cleric subclass
would personally start in Fighter and take unarmed fighting, then go barbarian, then probably a paladin - finally sorcerer.
smites could totally be reflavored into ki abilities and sorcerer to fuel those guys.
alternatively go Warlock and reflavor eldritch blast

Insight is probably the most in character choice for goku's second skill from Monk. He's very good at discerning weaknesses and openings in people, particularly during combat. Just as an alternative to Stealth.

Absolutely! I've been thinking about him for a while now
It might be tough for me to figure out how to do because I'm relatively new to proper DND however I not only want to make this build or something similar but I want to fuse it with a another character I really like
Basically I just want to make super saiyan Godzilla
In his base form he would be a strong monk character that looks like Zilla from the Godzilla cartoon series
This would mean that he'd probably be a mix between a half dragon and a dragonborn which could lead to an interesting origin
But basically as he would power up into different super Saiyan States he would transform to resemble different versions of Godzilla
Whenever he Powers up the first time he would go from looking like zilla to a mix of heisei and legendary Godzilla with a tiny bit of Zilla still there so that's how you could tell that's what he transformed from
Whenever he Powers up and unlocks the ability of flight it looks like a space Godzilla variant of the same character and then whenever he's got all of his buffs working at the same time it is at his absolute strongest he would look like the NES super Godzilla but cooler
The transformation to you would go through wouldn't necessarily change anything about him gameplay Wise it's just whenever he Powers up he would have a visual transformation to indicate the new power level he's at
The transformations themselves could be both a good thing and a bad thing if they do get implemented into gameplay though
After all I'd be intimidating to see a dinosaur dragon looking character start glowing and transform into a crazier version of itself
But then again anyone who's fought the character enough times would know exactly what to expect whenever the individual transforms meaning that it could also act as an indicator to anyone who isn't intimidated as to what the characters now capable of
All in all this video has inspired me to make super saiyan Godzilla that I will either name Sarah or dagon and I'm very happy about it

I have to be honest... I have absolutely NO IDEA... I'm not overly familiar with 3.5e so I wouldn't even know where to start other than still going Monk for most of it as there's still a heavy reliance on Martial Arts. But I don't know how the feats, multiclassing, or even subclasses work or if they even existed in 3.5e. Sorry, I wish I could be more help, but 95% of my experience has been in 5th Edition

I could give him a shot, I feel like it's only inevitable that I'll wind up doing most of the core Dragon Ball characters over time because each one would be fairly different, even just doing Vegeta vs Goku would be a totally different build. But I can start thinking of how Jiren would work.

I've been thinking how to home brew UI and UE into DND and this is what I have so far:
Requirments:
Class: Monk
Level: 17 or higher
UI: Can only be activated if your HP is 5 or lower if healed above 15 the form ends, must spend a Ki point to maintain the form at the start of everyone of your turns or the form end immediatly.
You have advantage on Attacks, saving throws (if you suceed on a saving throw no damage is dealt to you for the rest of the turn).
Enemies have disadvantage on attacks against you.
Your AC is increased by 5 + monk lvl and you roll d12 for unarmed strikes
UE: Can be activated any time, when activated gain 10 temp HP per monk lvl and reduce AC by 5
When your health is reduced by a spell or attack increase the number of dice you roll on attacks for your next turn by 1 for every 10 damaged dealt to you. If HP is reduced to 0 revert to 1 instead (once per long rest)

It's bad. and badly overpowered. The AC Boost alone is ridiculous, and destroys bounded accuracy at 17th level, you're likely having a 16 AC at worst more likely an 17 or 18, to which you want to add 23, not make it 23, add 23 to your ac... If you're not trolling, you have a bright future in trolling.
