Known: Dooku was casually beating Obi-Wan. Lesser Known: Dooku was casually beating Obi-Wan while not even really trying to hurt him.
Pretty sure Dooku respected Obi-Wan and even held back against killing him because he was Qui Gons Padawan if I recall correctly. I think this was even implied in their last fight where Sidious expected Dooku to kill Obi Wan but Dooku instead chose to incapacitate him.
@@AsreiMurasame Correct! That is why Sidious winces, he wanted Kenobi dead. Also, Dooku did the same thing on Oba Diah, if one watches that fight again, the moment where Dooku knees Kenobi in the gut, and hip-tosses him, he chose not to kill him. Dooku had Kenobi's sword arm completely pinned and had a wide open shot at his chest and head with his saber, or some other lethal strike. Instead, he chooses to bruise his bum and ego.
It's not a perfect analogy, but think of former heavyweight boxing champion, Joe Frazier. Frazier fought Muhammad Ali three times, and held his own in all three fights -- defeating him once, and just barely losing the other two. But when he fought the champion whom Ali defeated -- George Foreman -- he was pulverized. Why is that? Because Frazier's aggressive style played right into Foreman's hands -- Foreman being a *slugger* by nature -- while Ali's *defense*-oriented style played more into *Frazier's* hands. If that makes sense.

Obi-Wan is still my favorite Jedi. He's honorable, humble, self-sacrificing, and modest. Just a great character even if others are more powerful, he's accomplished in his own right.
Obi-Wan and Anakin together were pretty much unstoppable except as explained up above. Anakin is a whirlwind with his offensive skills while Obi-Wan master the defense, those 2 together were almost fighting as one and they can both switch up to different forms at a seconds notice
Their saber battles were the best of any star wars! It's amazing to go back and watch them! Even in kenobi it's like neither guy missed a step even after all these years! Them and mark hamill just have true star wars heart!
Obi-Wan proved himself to be the most resilient jedi fighter. fact.
That is what makes him goated to me. He was at a power /skill disadvantage against most of his top tier opponents. Yet his wins didn't come because he was better, rather he never stopped seaching for a win condition to seize upon. Ben was almost always was cunning enough to find victory in the face of defeat.
Obi wan proves that raw power isn't everything, tempered patience and knowledge can be more precise and more devastating than brute force force
If Dooku was 20-30 years younger, I doubt even Sidious could take him out with a lightsaber.
As erratic and unpredictable as Sidious' fighting style is, I think he'd definitely give Dooku some trouble.

If its just a pure dual without force powers, yeah, its possible though still a high diff win given how chaotic Palps's dueling style is. Though its worth noting that Sidious did acknowledged Dooku as a supremely skilled duelist (As did Plagueis). Even so, the moment it becomes a force contest, Dooku can only play for time at best.
Sidious looks down on fighting with a light saber, so he didn't have the interest in practicing to be as good as Yoda, Mace, or Dooku. HIs weapon was the dark side of the force. The reason he can still beat most Jedi with a saber is force augmented speed as he fights.
It was even mentioned in a comic/book that Sidious feared Dooku and knew he would lose a lightsaber duel against him. He also didn't teach Dooku everything because he was afraid he would become even more dangerous to him than he already was. Dooku is just underrated af. He also never feared Yoda until he fought Dooku on Geonosis and on an equal level. That's when Sidious felt fear of Master Yoda.
Dooku also has something the others didn't, he stays calm. Kanobi can outlast the others, they get angry or frustrated ultimately make a mistake and lose. Dooku won't do that, so even if you take the difference in force power out of it and put them on a more even footing, I think he his level headed approach works against Kanobi.

This type of phenomenon is common in the world of professional fighting. One guy can beat everyone but theres that one dude who is seen as a lesser fighter and they just cant beat them for some reason. Its really funny to watch once you take notice to it 😂

Whenever Obi-Wan faces Dooku, he becomes so uncivilized.
Dooku trained Obi-wan's master and I believe he might have even helped train Obi-Wan when he was at the temple. Anakin however was never trained by dooku and his training wasn't seen by Dooku.
Episode 2 implies that they never met until Geonosis as Dooku in film said to Kenobi that he always wished to meet him
@alecjackman2655 true. But it also implies that Qui-gon talked about Obi-Wan to Dooku before. So if Qui-gon asked for help and Dooku gave advice it still would have been Dooku having influence over Obi-Wan

I think in some ways, the lightsaber styles and methods of Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Dooku fit the Rock, Paper, Scissors model, respectively, meaning that each has specific strengths and weaknesses when facing an opponent and no one combatant is significantly more powerful than the other two. Case in pont: Anakin was (eventually) able to defeat Dooku (Rock crushes Scissors), Dooku defeated Obi-Wan (Scissors cuts Paper), and Obi-Wan beat Anakin/Vader in a duel during which the former was on the defensive most of the time (Paper covers Rock).

I'm happy to see that you've either seen my post under the video or came to the same conclusion from watching, that fight between Obi Ani and Dooku, the elder of the two is perfectly pitting Anakin and Obi-Wan's forms and teamwork against one another;
Constantly keeping Anakin on the back foot with defense from an onslaught that's constantly on the lookout for Obi-Wan's offensive strikes, ready to repel them with lethal accuracy.
But there's one thing you touch on and gloss right over!
Imagine the thought that's been going on in Obi-Wan's head since Geinosis(Sp?):
"He's holding back on me because of his attachment to Qui-Gon, _what if he should ever abandon that...."_
Dooku always seeming to want to keep Obi-Wan alive through all their fights, his unwillingness to embrace his Jedi teachings and forgo that attachment to Qui Gon through Obi, would only cement Obi-Wan's thoughts that a fallen Jedi will _never_ change (for later, with Luke and his father)

@@kelvinhooks9399 I think they could give Mace a good fight and maybe even win some matches. Mace definitely holds Obi Wan’s skills in high regard thinking he was the greatest form three user he’d ever seen. Anakin I think was Mace’s equal if not slightly better than him.
@@alecjackman2655 I ask that question because whenever there are rankings for Jedi they mostly have Anakin at the top which I always respond that Anakin never beat Obi-Wan and they would have Obi-Wan ranked 6th and Windu maybe 5th or 4th but I think that Anakin would always let his emotions get the better of him and would always be bested by more centered Jedi like Obi-Wan and Windu.

Lightsaber combatants seem to always have one opponent that can beat them... almost a rock, paper scissors affect. And even though we often see one as more powerful than another, there is always someone that rivals them even though they really shouldn't be able to. Granted, sometimes they may just get lucky... 🙂

I'm still remembering how you made a video about best lightsaber duelists and put Kenobi on the bottom tier and put lightsaber duelists he killed in lightsaber combat in tiers above him.
It’s basically rock-paper-scissors. Dooku’s precision can pick apart Obi-Wan’s defenses, but Obi-Wan’s defense was a perfect counter to Anakin’s brute force while Dooku was very weak to it.

The reason for that being is because even before falling to the Dark Side, Dooku was one of the best blademasters in modern history
Even if he can’t beat Yoda, Dooku is skilled enough to hold his own against Yoda in a saber duel
While Dooku prefers to specialize in one saber style, Form 2 Makashi. He’s familiar with each Lightsaber form, and taught them to Grevious
It’s because of his knowledge of each Saber form, Dooku knows how to act accordingly
He would know Obi-Wan’s speciality is Form 3, Soresu, and how to counter it
The real reason why he lost to Anakin, is because of Anakin’s Form V, enhanced by the Dark Side and Dooku’s own age and weakness of Form 2
Makashi is swift and precise, but lacks kinetic energy
Anakin’s aggressive style of Form V, enhanced by his rage, battered through Dooku’s defenses
Dooku was caught off guard from Anakin’s strength while being told by Sidious to hold back and provoke Anskin to use the Dark Side. Dooku wasn’t in control of the fight
In a fight he can control, like his fights agsinst Obi-Wan, he would plan accordingly and take advantage of Soresu’s lack of offensive counterattacks, and mind games from taunts to being down Obi-Wan
The only problem I have with this is that form 3 has offensive capabilities, the user waits until the perfect time to unleash built up energy. And Obi Wan also could rely on form 4 as well for offensive attacks. If form 3 has no attacks then how would you defeat anyone using it? Another thing to point out is that form 3 users can often beat more powerful opponents then themselves and Obi Wan is the master of form 3.

@ninjaxd9050 I understand why you'd think that, but Yoda specifically didn't send Obi-Wan to confront Sidious because he knew Obi-Wan would be killed, but had a chance against Anakin.
Dooku's age is the only thing that held him back. He was a better duelist than all of his opponents. The only reason Anakin was able to win was because Dooku never actually tried to kill Anakin. He was told not to. He could have done it multiple times before their duel on the invisible hand. Also even in that last duel he was instructed to goad Anakin not kill him. If instead he went for the kill there is a good chance he pulls it off to the chagrin of Sidious.
Anakin was able to defeat dooku for two reasons. Dooku’s age and the sheer power anakin put into his strikes. He force augmented his attacks that dooku’s finesse could not stand up to for a lengthy period of time but makashi would finesse around soresu eventually.

Styles make fights. Dooku just had Obi Wan's number. However, the fact nobody calls him Darth Tyranus is not really accidental. He was never a Sith in the way Maul or Sidious were. He was a Master Jedi who fell and learned Sith ways. In many ways he remained a Jedi Master in outlook and fought as one. Obi-Wan was fighting a mirror image with greater skill and power who lacked the overconfidence of Maul or Vader. It was never going to be a contest.

Dooku was a counter attacker and patient. Not your typical all in fighter like Bane or Vader etc. I’m surprised Doo and One don’t just fight each other to a permanent stand still
I think the aged Obi-Wan that killed Maul possibly had enough experience to out-dual Dooku, but it'd still be a very close contest (ROTS novel did state that Obi-Wan's form 3 was so good that Dooku was genuinely impressed and a bit daunted by it) Then again Obi-Wan did have a psychological edge on Maul where he tricked him into trying to finish him the same way he did Qui-Gon; and he also had a psychological edge against Vader/Anakin. That said, he did have a bit of a psychological edge on Dooku as well because Dooku had a bit of a sentimental soft spot for Obi-Wan due to his link to Qui-Gon. Hell Dooku outright defied Sidious by not killing Obi-Wan on the IH.

I think it's a silent clue, though, in ROTS when Dooku has to force throw Obi-Wan away just to level the playing field. I don't think that was done out of disdain. Kenobi completely changed his style to suit the new challenges of swordfighting with Dooku and Grievous. I just don't think it's any coincidence Dooku had to take him out quick. I don't think he'd have lasted 2 vs 1 with swordsman Kenobi. I just realized when Dooku jumped down off the catwalk, he doomed himself. He forfeited the high ground

While I do end up hitting like for every video, I finally know a comment I want to leave about why I did for this vid.
Not all power is linear, generic to where 1 > 2 > 3, though it could be that multiple kinds of 1 > 2 > 3 put together are the reason one person loses to another and wins against another.
Like aboard the invisible hand, in their respective lightsaber forms, Dooku, Obi-Wan, and Anakin are all at 1. In force abilities, Dooku is at 1, Anakin at 2 (maybe for resistance, Anakin is at 1), and Obi-Wan at 3. As the fight went on between Dooku and Anakin's 1v1, Dooku's skills (lightsaber and force) start becoming 2 and 3 vs Anakin's 1 and 1.
The psychological fear Dooku uses against his opponents is the same as Vadar

I think that Anakin could have easily lifted Obi wan with the force on mustafar just like dooku did with Obi wan on the invisible hand, but he didn’t want to for a couple reasons until it was too late. I could be wrong but that’s my thought.

So Obi Wan did get the skill to withstand Dooku, as he was too defensive against the Count in a sword fight. But Dooku was just too strong in the force and able to penetrate his force shield.

From the moment I saw revenge of the sith for the first time i knew that Anakin was way more powerful than Obi Wan but it wasnt until the novelization that i grasp how dangerous Dark side Anakin had become. Jedi's build their strength through calmness, discipline and serenity and that takes them more time than Sith to gain power but its safer for the body and soul of the light side user. The sith on the other hand get more power faster but they risk losing theirselves on the power and their focus. It also makes them dependent on their darker emotions to fuel its power. In the novel, Obi wan describes clearly that his going to die fighting anakin and that every second that passes he grows weaker while anakin gets more powerful. Obi wan grows weaker because of his conflicted feelings, his sadness at losing his friend and family, at just seeing Anakin try to kill him. Anakin on the other hands grows stronger because he gets frustrated that Obi Wan is lasting as much as he is, that he took padme, and that he came here to kill him. Up until the high ground Obi wan struggle to find serenity and wisdom in himself and in the force and when he did he jumped. He entrusted himself to the force like Qui Gon said and brushed aside his doubts and when the opening presented itself in anakin losing his cool head because of power and jumped, Obi wan took advantage of that and ended the duel.
Had obi wan hesitated for one second for Anakin well being it would have been over and the fate of the galaxy would have been drastically different. This duel was another fate of the duels and unlike the first one that ended on the rightful master dying and the dark side triumphant this one ended on bringing hope in Luke and Leia to the world and to be guided by the values and morals of both the Larson family and the Organas. Obi wan winning drastically modified everything, from who raised luke and leia, to Anakin killing Sidious or sidious taking over Anakin, to the reconstruction of the jedi order and the rebel alliance. Obi wan in my mind defeated all of his enemeies because he took decisive actions on crucial situations. He didnt hesitated, never acted without a rational mind or without the will of the force guiding him. Anakin lost himself on his new found powers and made a single mistake, Maul made the same one mistake in calling for victory on naboo when Obi Wan was still alive. Savage Opress lost his arm because he overstimated his body's strength while Obi Wan knew that even with 20 kicks to the leg that Savage knee will eventually buckle and when it does he takes decisive action in just cutting his arm. Grievous also made a mistake in opening his exposed organs when Obi Wan opened them earlier and Obi Wan use a gun even when he himself deemed it uncivilized. Like every duel to obi wan was being patient and exploiting or creating a weak point and then just without doubt executing a move no matter how risky it could be.
Dooku had only one weakpoint in his dueling style and Obi wan's Soresu wasnt enough, nor his skills on the force and Dooku was a strategist who never lost focus and was a perfectionist. Dooku had. a mental strength to maintain control that every sith lord Obi wan had didnt. Dooku most of all had the talent, experience and hard work to back it off. Their was little that could suprise and stun Dooku. Obi wan would have never won that one because it took Anakin's cavalier nature, his raw power on the force, his devotion to Djem So, and his relenting pursuit on Dooku to make Dooku doubt and eventually panic.

They left his body on that ship and it got incinerated.
More then likely his body got destroyed with the ship.
They fought in a high tower.
Then as the three was escaping (after grievous) the ship broke apart leaving the rear with the tower behind.

The main reason is that Dooku wasn’t stupid enough to believe that the high ground was an advantage in a sword fight. Tyrannus would never fall for that dumb ploy.
Why don’t yall make a video on how obi wan and qui gon felt in the moments of darth Vader coming back to the light as anakin before he died with Luke being there with him and sidous being the one who kind of killed him. Do they feel regret for not helping him in his earlier years more then they did or are they happy it went the way it did because of its ending and what and how it affected Luke skywalker going forward.
If Obi-Wan broke through this mental block, could he defeat the Dark Lord? I think yes.

Well, I always thought it had LOT to do with facts that Dooku was ALSO Legendary like Obi Wan an he was ALSO THE Form 2 user in same way Kenobi was THE Form 3 user. An if I'm not mistaken isn't Makashi like the anti form natural counter to Forms like 3??
An ice always wondered IF, even as a Knight IF Anakin had become quite possibly the GREATEST and was held up as such the best Form 5 user possibly of any Era ever by EVERYONE, AND he REALLY WAS... Would Kenobi STILL lasted as long even despite knowing Anakin an his personal style so well. Pretty sure that most ancient and old republic Sith would wipe the floor with Obiwan, Malgus will amplify his shien strike with the force and the blow will break Obiwans arm.
tbh when i compare canon sith with ancient sith, i realize how weak canon sith actually were, compare dooku with tulak hord in LS skills or sidious to vitiate or nihilus, its like watching toddlers playing with toys.
There are maybe like 2-3 people during his time that could beat Dooku in a dual. And Anakin, the one who finally beat him, was mainly able to do because of his robotic hand (given to him by Dooku). That hand, because it ran on an engine and didn't use stamina, was able to persist and endure the longer the dual went on for, which Dooku (who hated robotics) could not match. That was what gave Anakin the edge to beat Dooku. And keep in mind, Dooku was probably like 80 years old by the time he fell to Anakin lol. A prime Dooku would have been a whole other beast.
Who were the 2-3? Yoda, maybe Mace Windu, and who else?

Even Mace Windu failed to doku in dueling a couple of times. Anikin defeated Doku because Palpatine wanted. Obi-Wan is not a powerful type but the hardest to kill.
What I want to see is He-Man vs. Dooku.
Anakin should have take a page out of the old man’s playbook verses obi wan. Just overpower him with raw force power. Instead he was arrogant wanted to beat him with the blade which ultimately was a huge mistake.

The biggest mistake of the Star Wars movies was killing off Maul in one movie and bringing washed up Poopku in as the big bad… they should have kept Maul around until the 3rd film and that series would have slapped
Obi Wan excels in combat against opponents who are unbalanced. Dooku is extremely composed for a sith and Obi Wan has nothing to exploit.

I'm sorry, but the point about Anakin having Dooku on the back-foot on Naboo and Oba-Diah is demonstrably incorrect. 1) On Naboo, Dooku wasn't engaged in a proper duel with Anakin, he was trying to get Palpatine to the shuttle. It is abundantly clear Dooku was playing with Anakin while still managing to keep him at arms length. Calmly walking backwards and being reactive is not a real duel. Anakin managed to knock Dooku down because Dooku was being too cute, at the same time Anakin let his guard down to choke Dooku. It was a poor choice and Dooku could have easily killed him while he was knocked out. 2) Dooku dominated both Anakin and Obi-Wan on Oba Diah. How does one draw any other conclusion?

have beaten someone else? By the time of his fight with Anakin, Obi Wan had become THE master of his form. I don't think there was anyone that was completely untouchable to him.
