    I've been blown away by Ann and Nancy Wilson, so none of this will surprise you that I wanted to hear more Heart and dive deeper down into this feminine powerhouse of a group. I have heard this song as a cover by Floor Jansen a couple years ago, but never the original, and never in a live performance like this!

      Ann just had one of those one of kind voices you can't even explain. Amazing instrument.
      And the look on stage. To us back then it was more than you could take in that rock goddess hair, makeup, costume when they were young. Overload.
      Have you done Abba Dancing Queen. I know we're all about rock, but it could be an interesting review. The octave change they say was just unreasonable, but those girls pulled it off.

    The sad irony of this era of Heart was that while they were putting out fantastic records, the record company was treating Ann like garbage due to her weight. She's on record saying that she was utterly miserable during the late eighties/early nineties period. She is a goddess no matter what; the greatest female voice in rock history.

    • @harvey66616
      @harvey66616 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +112

      Yes, to all of that.
      You can see in the video production, there are almost no non-closeup shots of Ann, and the few that occur, are either from a distance, or she's in shadow, or both. Her hair was styled to make her face appear slimmer. The video production works really hard to hide the weight gain.
      That was pretty awful treatment of her, and typical of media marketing, especially of the time, but something that still happens today, and especially to women. Never saw Meatloaf getting the "you're just too fat" treatment, and Ann Wilson is a thousand times more gorgeous than him on any day, no matter what her weight. She is indeed a goddess, both in appearance and in voice.

    • @rabeksmom
      @rabeksmom 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +75

      Agreed. They treated her horribly. They also treated Nancy horribly. She hated all those skin tight outfits and the big hair. The 80's brought them a lot of success but not a lot of happiness.

    • @rray848
      @rray848 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +49

      The record companies had one arrow in their quiver in the 80s and 90s.... They tried to make every female artist a sex symbol. They didn't look at how talented they were... If Heart wasn't an established force from the 70s, if Ann didn't have the outstanding voice and talent... I'm sure they would have pushed to replace her with someone they could promote in a skimpy outfit. They did that to Martha Wash for the song Gonna Make You Sweat... They used Zelma Davis lip syncing in the video and didn't even credit Martha until she sued and got them to give her credit.

      To be fair to Meatloaf he was nonstop given crap for his weight and most people still think of him as being unhealthily overweight so he kinda made it his gimick. But also they didn't feel the need to hide it I guess. @@harvey66616

    Please do a reaction for (or at least check out) Heart's "These Dreams"... Lead vocals are by Nancy instead of Ann and Ann does some interesting things with the background vocals, it was Heart's first #1 hit, (1986) it was written by Bernie Taupin and Martin Page and was originally offered to Stevie Nicks. I'd suggest the studio version or "Live in Seattle" version ❤️

      @joannecunliffe8067 - I'm definitely not taking anything away from Nancy's guitar playing. She's a force, to be sure, but the solo is actually done by Howard Leese, the only other original member still around at this point in their career. Nancy's specialty is intricate rhythm sections that often go unnoticed by the fans, but she has on occasion ripped a fantastic solo. Silver Wheels being a perfect example.

    You wait til you hear it live, for real, in the same room. Especially if its the stripped back acoustic version. I'm telling you, that voice goes right through you to your bones. I've never heard anything like it. I was fortunate enough to see them at the Royal Albert Hall the last time they were in the UK and it was filmed for DVD; Two friends and I were in some pretty high seats up above the arena and when she hit the chorus all we could do was look at each other with our chins on our chests. Bloody amazing. And she was 62 when she did that.
    Exactly the same look that you give to camera at 9:04 LOLZ..... and. 15:32.... and 23:37... It was exactly like that. And yes, to hear the two of them together acoustically, it just rips your heart out and kicks it around the floor. It really is something.
    I adore this original recorded version for everything that it is and its one of those songs that has taken on a life of its own and means so much to so many people, its a huge huge track. But hearing that voice, live..... she's bloody magnificent, thats what she is.

      I would disagree. I liked the unplugged version of a lot of songs. Kron being the top to enjoy. Don't get me wrong there are bad sounding acoustic attempts. This song struck a cord during my childhood that still rings. Amplified actually. Wanted to take a sec and tell you I've been binge watching, and seeing the same excited wonderment of music,
    But you haven't lost your curious wonder. I respect that. Today, fir the 1st time in years, I picked up my guitar again. 10 yrs as a combat medic...actually had a Schecter in Iraq...beautiful sustain on the heave notes, by the way, buy I've havent felt any emotion in my music since them. It's just been mechanical...
    To wrap it up and send it, you helped rekindle the fire, feelin and what I call 'spirit kisses'. I know...weird, but there are very few moments in life where the spirit grazes the vale, and the harmony you feel in these pure moments, without pride, without ego, just excited peace.......
    .....I thought it was dead. Watching your expressions with wonder while dissecting it all down into scientific, building blocks and defining the power in harmonics....deep stuff lady.....DONT STOP ROCKIN.

    You have to, HAVE TO, HAVE TO do... the Heart song "Dog and Butterfly"!!! Do the album version. It's an acoustic guitar song and the sisters' voices are just....... I don't want to spoil it or hype it up, but you're REALLY gonna like it :)

      That's really good, yes. It's so simple and yet so gorgeous. Dreamboat Annie is another one like that. Personally I'd rather see a reaction to Never or These Dreams if we're looking at vocals. Never is one of my favorite examples of women rockers. Great vocals, bass, drums, it was all working.

    Elizabeth, Heart's performance of Alone has been one of my all time favorites for many years. I love this song because of its lyrics, because of the superb performance of the backing musicians, because of Ann's and Nancy's ability to entertain while singing so beautifully. I just love the song - as an unsophisticated listener and fan. After listening to your analysis of this song (and many other songs) where you highlight so many things that must be done perfectly by a top 1% singer to achieve a great performance has doubled the listening pleasure I now derive from this song (and others) and my admiration for those with the talent and skill to give such stunning performances. Many of the comments you make are truly educational and have resulted in a marked increase in my personal enjoyment and appreciation of fine music. In a word, I can now appreciate more WHY I enjoy certain songs so much. A sincere thank you!

    This song is such good therapy. How many times have I sung this at the top of my lungs on the freeway at night with the windows rolled down, the wind whipping through the car, beating on my steering wheel. Growing up listening to Ann and Nancy back when female vocalists were rare was a lifesaver.

    18:00 perfect way to not make a song too repetitive/predictable, they did something unexpected instead of just dropping the chorus exactly where you'd expect it to start.
    Her beautiful musical shriek is my favourite part of this song. It's in the same pitch range as her sister Nancy singing back up on the chorus, but it's very gutsy and raw because Anne just has more of that.
