How to diagnose electrical faults with ease using the Power Probe!

    PowerProbe Tool Link: amzn.to/3aFTHKP
We had a student with a long-term problem of dash lights that quit working on their Suzuki. I demonstrate how to use the Power Probe to diagnose this within minutes.
Do you struggle with electrical diagnosis? Wanting to be a rock-star with electrical? Let me train you!
Here is a solid flow chart for fast accurate diagnosis. Tip 1-4 HAS to be is good integrity ALWAYS. As I worked on my personal craftsmanship when performing electrical repairs, I've found that it's just good practice to "maintain" these items 1-4 regardless. I previously would work backwards on this list to diagnose problems the fastest.
I found that building steps 1-4 into muscle memory not only made me consistent when troubleshooting electrical problems, but improved the quality of my work.
Here is my list. Repair or maintenance as you go. Think: clean connections and dielectric grease connections!
    Electrical diagnosis Checklist:
    1. Battery testing (load tested!)
    2. Ground Verification
    3. Locate Wire Diagram (This is a real time saver)
    4. Fuse Inspection
    5. Test for Power to component connector (vehicle side of harness)
    6. Test for component Ground
    7. Isolate component from vehicle and bench test with the Power Probe.
Feel free to share if you like it or know someone this lesson will benefit.

Then I follow the person on the subjects I need to learn about. Great teaching on this power probe. Not just talk about what it can do but a case study as well. Thank you

how do you know the wire has integrity if it is not loaded, it just appears to show there is voltage (potential) present? Once you load it there then yes integrity is present but just touching it with the probe and going by lights on it, not sure about that one...

Very true but you must start somewhere when training techs and I have other videos/lessons demonstrating loaded tests. Only thing I don't like about the Power Probe is it keeps growing larger with each new model and that can make it difficult to use in tight quarters.

the problem with power probes is they dont load the circuit during closes circuit tests like in the begging. it doesn't show voltage drops. the load pro is a much better diagnostic tool for voltage drop testing which would eliminate everything from the connector back, etc. power probe has it uses like every tool. however, I dont think it's great for circuit testing. very useful for applying powers and ground though.
