Great video, exactly the problem I was trying to figure out... Does my fuel pump work or not the only thing I can't figure out is where did you stick that clip because I don't have a clip... I got a wire so does the wire go in the green or in the brown with black stripe I'd appreciate if you knew the answer thank you
I'm having probelms tarting my r6 . Got a brand new battery now it just cranks but wont turn over. I can hear the fuel pump when I turn the key on... where else should I look from here? Relays?
What exactly was your issue here? I’m dealing with what I believe has to be a broken wire somewhere. Got a power probe and proved the fuel pump works, replaced the fuel pump relay because I could’nt find how to test this Yamaha one with 16 pins or whatever it is. I know it fires up on starter fluid so I have spark, pump works and I believe the relay works as I just replaced it. Not sure how/where to start
If there is a fuel pump relay , all diagnostic can be done there , look for NC or NO contacts , use ammeter, if the pump work it will draw current

I don't have easy access to the fuel pump on my boat but I do have easy access to the fuel pump relay. I'm sure the same should work the right, assuming the wiring was good to the pump.

So next determine if the fuel pump generates pressure? Or are you fully confident to move to power that bike provides to the pump. A pump can cycle yet not pump fluid correct?
Bruce Kennedy Yes you are correct. I have had 2 fuel pumps that would turn on, but was too weak to pump the amount of fuel needed. 1 was on a Ford F150 and the other was on a Toyota 4runner. The Ford pump would turn on, but the fuel pressure was 0 at the fuel rail.

I have 2010 cbr 1000 fuel pump wont prime i dont know if its a issue with the pump or the hiss system i am in the uk any advice would be greatful thank you
Hello Andrew. So copy this video's theory by isolating the fuel pump. If you can get it to turn on, then the problem is elsewhere in the fuel system. Don't forget relays, safety switches and connections if you need to start chasing. Many times it's the simple stuff.

G'day Shane what if the fuel pump is priming & has plenty of fuel but still won't start? Swapped over another tank & fuel pump fitted of the same exact model yamaha (XT660R) and it fired right up, Then put the original tank back on & it primes but won't start ... Double frustrating because I only removed the fuel pump in the first place to clean the pick up sock and it was running fine before hand.

Yeah mate I went through all 521 videos & it looks like you've been a busy bloke Shane but I didn't see any about 'PRIMED fuel pumps' that wont start. bleeding about it big time because like I said there was nothing wrong with the bloody bike but I had to be a wombat & check the strainer & now I'm stuck in Cairns North Queensland while my mates are on a shithot adventure up in Cape York but hey I appreciate the reply fella but looks like you have your hands full with a million other things. That sucks friend. When you're really stuck in a position of needing answers, that were I come in and can usually get you scheduled in a day. Here are a couple of the 660 videos that may help get you the skill sets needed to fix since the one one one wasn't an option for you. If you can switch pumps and it works fine then it surely the tank vent, pump or lines.

I have the same problem with my Harley V rod Night special. I turn the bike on I get a check engine light but no prime to the fuel pump. I did what you did in this video and the fuel pump turned on. Is my problem an electrical issue? Thanks

Or you could try starting the bike with the fuel pump hose unplugged, if it spits out fuel, the pump works.

I have a sv650s my stator went replaced it now my bike powers up but can't get fuel.pump to run replaced the replace twice now and fuel pump but still can't the pump to power if I jump my relay plug the pump runs non stop even when the power to bike is completely turned off

My bike has the same problem, I replaced the pump and it doesnt start
I have the same problem. Pump tests good but won’t turn on. Tested the fuel pump relay, kill switch, fuel pump, fuses, and it’s not throwing any codes. Tested voltage coming out of the plug that goes into pump and got 11.7V. Pump won’t prime at all. Any help would be appreciated.

I can’t hear my fuel pump at all on my 97 gsxr 600 and when I connect the fuel pump my fuel pump relay gets to buzzing loud I used a test light on the fuel pump really and it lit up but as soon as I connected the fuel pump it didn’t light up no more and started buzzing I don’t kno what to do at this point

Hey Shane. I have a Yamaha R1 2009. My fuel pump is brand new but no power is being received to it. My ignition coils aren't receiving any power either. My ECU seems to be fine. If you could help me out that would be great. I'll be super grateful man. Love the content 👌

On my dirtbike there’s a sub harness that connects to fuel pump. It doesn’t have continuity it seems , and also when I check the fuel pump connection contacts separate from sub harness , they don’t have continuity either! Is it odd for both to have open circuits?
I also check the fuel injector connector that goes to fuel pump and it is has continuity to make sure I’m doing it properly
