Thanks for the jnfo i got this new tool i know nothing about this ... now i know something... i love the fact that you can test car parts just conecting ground and pressing power .. this definitely is a great tool ..
Watched ur video, never knew something like this existed, ordered it right away and fixed my taillight in my living room and was able to power it up and know if it worked before taking it back downstairs and installing it in my car!! I am the unhandiest person I know and I made this happen! THANK YOUUUUU!!!
This is definitely a must have tool, I just finished a engine harness swap in a jeep and it was vital in doing it. Great for testing sensor voltages, finding ecu wires that are grounded or positive or pulse to ground which can be much easier to see with it than a multimeter. Extremely useful for remotely powering relays or devices, just have to be cautious that you know what you're powering lol
I've had a Power Probe since the original one came out almost 20 years ago. This is one of those things that you absolutely can't live without after using it a few times. the PP3 replaces your test light, simple volt meter, small flashlight, and jumper wires effortlessly
I have had one of these PowerProbes for many years now. I have the master kit with all the attachments and extra plugs and stuff. I used to install car stereos and alarms, and this tool saved me SOOOOOO much time locating circuits in a vehicle. I must have sold at least a dozen of these for PowerProbe because as soon as other installers saw it in action, they ended up buying one.
I am reasonably sure that a electrical challenged person like myself could use this tool with some certainty of success. Thanks for the great tip. Ordered one from Amazon.
I forgot that I have one of those, need to get it back from my brother. It's the best tool for probing under the dash. The two best features I like are the built in lights and audio tones, when in tight places
I've been on the fence when it came to the Power Probe 3, After many research and this video, I pulled the trigger and my Power Probe 3 arrived in the mail today.
I get paid Thursdays. I work into Friday mornings while watching You Need This Tool at work. Every Friday morning my wallet gets thinner on the drive to the parts store....I mean home. Damn you Kyle.😲 This is definately a cool product. I want! My toolbox thanks you. My wallet doesn't like you. ✌
Good shit! Very understandable. I just order one to test out whe my drivers side headlight is dimmer than the passenger side. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks for that introduction.
I got one with the extension and cigarette lighter. Barely use them but they do come in handy. I would like to upgrade to the master set since I do use it for work. It doesn't replace a voltmeter but if this is all you could afford or your a diy'er this is a MUST HAVE! I couldn't recommend one of these enough.
These are fantastic I was wiring up lights in my car and i was using a regular test light to bring power to the lights to make sure they worked but problem with that is its easy to drop the Test light and it might ground its self and fry something one of my buddies came over with this tool and made my life so much easier I didn't have to worry about frying something look if you use a test light on a a regular bases I would get one of these.
I have one of these , it was the best investment ive made for electrical work .. My kit also has the short / fault tracer setup ... So I can hook up one end to the wire and use a little box to trace the wire to look for shorts or broken wires .. It paid for itself after the first use .. Finding a bad ground wire inside a wire harness ... Highly recommend getting one of these for your tool box ... Well worth the money ..
I bought something similar to that about 10 years ago, it does everything that one does and it also will tell you how much energy is going through your spark plug leads, it was $60
Testing Intermediate voltages (3, 6, 9v) what does it do? Will it tell you with lights or sound if you have intermediate voltages? - sometimes it is not possible to see the probe digital display when working in tight spaces.
Just ordered the pp3 from the matco guy that comes to my work. I've been wanting one for a while plus he gave the discount special to me early so i'm like fuck yeah dude youre awesome!
Lol.. i see you finally got yourself a probe.. i told you that you'd fall in love with it :-P... Only thing i would suggest is get the FULL kit with circuit break tester, it offers so much and has come in SO handy its not even funny. Hands down one of the best tool in my shop.
I have one and not very familiar with it, can u video the time you use it, real world situations. I would appreciate it. keep the info commin, great stuff
hey friend, does it work to check and find open circuits right? does it have those like fuse conectors? could i make a manual conection and trace the open circuit in the fuse receptacle wires?
How do I know if I should be sending positive or negative to a connector? For example, the relay he used has 4 connectors, how did he know which one to plug the ground to and which one to put power (positive) to? Are all relays (and other electronics) labeled with + or - so it's easy to test?
Most relays have a diagram printed on the side showing which 2 are the coil and the contacts. As long as you find the 2 coil terminals it won't care about polarity if it is isolated from the circuit.
They're great for testing fuel pumps and horns and anything that you need someone to give power from the cockpit while you're under the car... And there is no other person.
I been having issues with my am fm cass radio/navigation monitor or on board monitor. In my E53 2006 BMW X5 3.0i sport activity vehicle. It just stop illuminating so I can not use navigation nor do I have any control of the unit buttons. I can only turn volume up or down using the steering wheel buttons. The fuses which control my unit is #7; #72;#73;#74 and #75. Well number #75 within its system keeps blowing fuse when I attempt to install the 5 amp fuse. Any perspective on this to fix would be great. I think with #75 fuse which is a 5 amp fuse is my problem I could be wrong n just partially correct. Is there a step and or process I'm over looking or have over or under looked. The #'s I gave above control phone sirus satellite radio Bluetooth or something like that I believe along with navigation tv if equipped that is it's for my spouse so she can get around without me having to be in vehicle with her. I greatly appreciate the help in any way possible to resolve this issue.
Just ordered a power probe IV last night stoked to finally add one to the arsenal. Now just need a shop to put it all in an start playing with the toys! Love seeing the content on your channel laid back an awesome to watch. Keep the shiny side up Kyle.
The Fab Forums hey Kyle I got a suggestion for the next segment of you need this tool. it's by NES The it's a external thread repair tool check them out on their site. www.nes.co.il/158905/Nes-External-Thread-Repair
I hear yah. Even the PP2 blows a simple test light away. And I like the cigarette lighter plug in that the 2 and 3 have, not sure about 4 but I know the Hook can't use it because of its hi amps capability.
Yes Kyle. Luckily I do have that tool, well I had to have it! Bought it a while back when I was still working as an electronic mechanic on vehicles. Love the fact that you featured it today, so that people all over how doesn't have one, well gets one! Keep it up sir!
I agree I bought the big kit awhile back and its great. Its a bigger kit than I will ever use. but like having the fact that it is there if I need the other accessories
You use the PP3 to trace wires with continuity? The problem I ran into with that is with one end of the wire loose and the other end was grounded and I don't know where that end is. So I'm sort of screwed because I can touch another grounded wire and get the continuity buzz and it be the wrong wire at least on the PP2 the buzz sounds identical to the ground buzz. I guess if I unhooked the battery I don't suppose anything would show up as a ground but then if I don't know where that wire goes I'm still sort of screwed trying to test every freakin wire I can find.
Thanks for the jnfo i got this new tool i know nothing about this ... now i know something... i love the fact that you can test car parts just conecting ground and pressing power .. this definitely is a great tool ..
I've had my Power Probe III for 5+ years and absolutely love it.
Watched ur video, never knew something like this existed, ordered it right away and fixed my taillight in my living room and was able to power it up and know if it worked before taking it back downstairs and installing it in my car!! yeah they are awsome
How did you use a test light to fry things? Seems this could fry things just as easily, if you used it indiscriminately.
Glad I found this video man I needed this training..! Great humor by the way 😆👍🏽😎
I have one of these , it was the best investment ive made for electrical work .. My kit also has the short / fault tracer setup ... THANKS .. HOW I DONT HAVE ONE OF THESES ALREADY IS CRAZINESS!...
thing works awesome
Saw lucky on MTOD with this. Was just about to suggest it to you. I suspect you are a fan as well!
Already had it lined up when he did his video....crazy it worked out the way it did
sucks that it has a battleship anchor attached to it. as a standalone tool it'd be great.
hey friend, does it work to check and find open circuits right? does it have those like fuse conectors? could i make a manual conection and trace the open circuit in the fuse receptacle wires?
I dont think so

What do you know about the Load Pro and how they compare?
nothing....sorry
great video, just bought one on ebay for my hotrod

will this tool work with a rechargeable battery instead of the long cable to the car battery?
yeah
Do plan on getting the PP Hook?
no right now
I hear yah. Even the PP2 blows a simple test light away. And I like the cigarette lighter plug in that the 2 and 3 have, not sure about 4 but I know the Hook can't use it because of its hi amps capability.

I agree I bought the big kit awhile back and its great. Its a bigger kit than I will ever use. but like having the fact that it is there if I need the other accessories
Can this tool replace a multimeter or both have their place?
It can do a lot of the stuff a multi meter but cant actually replace it completely. This is probably more useful for normal electrical stuff though.
Hey man what do you use to trace wires with?
+Blade I use this thing
You use the PP3 to trace wires with continuity?
The problem I ran into with that is with one end of the wire loose and the other end was grounded and I don't know where that end is.
So I'm sort of screwed because I can touch another grounded wire and get the continuity buzz and it be the wrong wire at least on the PP2 the buzz sounds identical to the ground buzz.

Awesome video. Great info (one small critique: That music in the background SUCKS!!!) great video tho you rock.
