Saw this very funny movie several times. As an old vet appreciate the training DI'S did before we headed off to Nam. DI'S we're mostly from the South and did not like the mostly Yankees we had at Fort Dix NJ during boot camp.
Wrong, They don't want you to fight HTH. They teach you how to get enough separation to get your weapon because that is actually "kinda what they do." They don't want their solders to fight HTH and the HTH training for most people in the military is very basic.

And the primary goals are to: Disengage to regain projectile weapon range, gain a controlling position and utilize a secondary weapon, if neither of those are not possible only then close the distance and gain control to finish the fight. But most of the little training (8-20 hours depending) that soldiers have are focused upon the first 2 situations. Some jobs in the military have more advance training in HTH, but those are very few.
Military training varies greatly from country to country. And modern technology influences training. In the end, the goal is to stop the enemy usually by lethal means. Special forces get specialized training. But generally you are not supposed to be unarmed in combat. In American militaries you can be prosecuted for being unarmed.
Marines are more hype than tough. A good college wrestler can put a Marine straight out of basic training in the hospital. Now a group of Marines with equipment following orders is another matter. But one on one they are mostly men with rudimentary training.
@@johnchestnut5340 My son was a Marine. During his graduation I saw his entire unit go for a run of about 20 minutes when the ran back & got in formation not one of them were even breathing hard. They also trained in martial arts. Marines undergo lethal hand to hand fighting techniques to maim & kill their opponent. I don't think many wrestlers would want to fight a Marine.

Marines get more advanced/specialized training when they get a specific job. But they aren't beating national champion wrestlers after getting drunk at a bar. I doubt that a very inebriated Marine who is exceptionally skilled could fight a sober wrestler of any caliber. My cousin was a Marine. He's not superhuman. And neither is any other military personnel. The closest we ever had to superhuman soldiers was ancient Sparta. And that didn't save their civilization.
