  • Turning a really cool plaster kit into an even cooler diorama that is packed with so much detail it hurts!
I’m selling some of the 3D printed details in .STL format on my website for those who are interested in having a go at 3D printing some cool details for their models.
    www.bouldercreekrailroad.com
While there is quite a lot of extra detail that was added to the diorama believe it or not but I could add so much more. Dioramas like this are basically never ending projects because there are always micro details like rubbish or weeds that can be added to enhance the scene.
A lot of the time these details aren’t added straight away simply because sometimes it takes time to sit and look at a scene to realize there is something to add. And sometimes that process can take months even years… One day you’ll look at it and suddenly realize there needs to be a bin next to the phone booth or maybe a pot plant beside the door?
And that’s the beauty of building and working on models like this, it a project that can last years and is constantly rewarding. Family and friends will appreciate all the hard work that goes into a model like this when they see just how detailed and life like it can be.

I have a fun story for you. My in-laws, who live in Seattle, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last November. At their party one of their long time neighbors who is 80 found out I liked model making too and we started talking. He loves your channel and your videos got him into 3D printing parts for his stuff.

This is brilliant, Luke. I love how you left in some of the "juggled" fails. This is better than seeing them all succeed, as it brings more of a human touch to the video. We all know you produce take after take to get that final perfect "cut" scene. A few errors adds so much character to these tutorials. Again, another great success.

A tip for when using the plaster filler to fill the gap: mask off the gap. Add a strip of masking tape on either side of the gap, the tape won’t stick great to the wall, which is to your benefit. Fill the gap as usual and then remove the masking tape while the filler is still wet. The amount of detail you need to recarve should be minimal 🙂
Great build mate, enjoyed it immensely!

BEcause i had fun searching for him, the Waldo/Wally sightings:
00:38 under the glass below the square plaster wall with two windows
3:34 behind, what looks like, a couch to the left of the building as the camera pans left
9:06 inside the building as seen through the window above what would be the door
21:00 peeking behind the corner of the model's base
21:38 behind the 2 stacked palletes of bricks

I am an old retired codger who now sits and watches TH-cam videos while listening to Audiobooks. I just mute your audio and watch. Your attention to detail is awesome and your fastidiousness (is that a word?) to getting everything right amazes me. The only critism I might have and it is probably me age is the constant flipping of bottless and cans. :/ I will eventually binge watch each episode as I listen to my books and openly be envious of your ability and my inability to do the things you do. While time is something I have aplenty, the tremors in my hands would not bode well with your hobby. Keep up the good work!
