And if you actually think about some of the character progressions in the story ,it's actually pretty subtle and deep

I was actually planning on making my 2022 list soon.. not sure if I should do another tierlist ( i dropped/disliked a decent number of manga this year, plus the "dropped" tier didn't get the best reaction, lesson learned) and instead just list my top 5. Definitely your tier list is actually pretty interesting half of these I've never even have the chance to read like Pluto and I would say slam dunk and some of them I've actually read.
For instance blade of the immortal I've really enjoyed I'm surprised you didn't like that one particularly. But at the same time it is your list and you know there's certain things that basically you know it doesn't catch your eye or something like that I mean I understand
Yeah I've been on this manga journey for the last four or five months that I've been taking a break from the American side of comics and just being jumping on to the Japanese manga so far I've hardly have found a bad one in the bunch except for the one that I just read I read it like halfway through I don't think you've read it yet it's Black clover I read the first volume and had to drop it I still have it I haven't finished it yet but it's just for me so bad that I didn't want to pick it up again but I'm probably going to pick it up just to finish it in like in a month or two because I got to finish it but definitely a really good list man

Cool video! I know this is a bit late, but I thoroughly enjoyed your list! I just started getting into manga, so thanks for all of the indirect suggestions! As for Berserk, I totally get what you mean with the sexual violence :(. It's in the story SO MUCH that you start to become numb to it, and that's not something you should strive towards when writing a dark story. It's typically used to illustrate when an antagonist is a REALLY bad person, but if every antagonist uses this sexual violence, why even include it at all? Regardless, great list!
I don't think i ever got used to the sexual violence ahaha. I'm sure miura was trying to illustrate a very dark world, and he accomplished that. Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Would recommend kingdom, innocent, innocent rogue, kokou no hito, I am a hero, the ravages of time, ruler of the land, feng shen ji and kubera.
Kingdom and i am a hero are definitely in my future, and kokou no hito wasn't for me. Because of that, i'm not sure if i'll enjoy the innocenr series. But as for the other recs, much thanks!

yea, the artwork is top tier! fan service doesn't justify a series being bad, it just made me lose my personal interest. I only read about half of it so I'm sure there was some great things that happened later!

punpun is on my plan to read list, but i know i have to prepare myself for that one. sakamoto days ive heard nothing but great things but since i usually like reading completed series i won't get to it soon, but eventually. ill give yotsubato a check. thanks so much for stopping by ur a real one!!
I stopped reading punpun after 52 chapters, it was boring to me! Every time it had me hooked it did something to ruin it

I can't wait for the day that D grey-man gets an ending. I don't know why the mangaka doesn't want to keep making more chapters after a long Hiatus and I think that she recovered from a health problem, I would take some help from assistants and trying to finish the story faster, so a berserk thing doesn't happen again :( . Sorry for my English I'm from Argentina, and I'm waiting for more videos like this one :)
After everything that went down with the likes of miura and togashi, these health problems can be very significant. i believe in koshino's case it was also induced by heavy work, so getting back into it full swing may cause problems again. She has been dropping chapters quarterly, but i do too hope d gray man sees an ending. Also, thanks for stopping by, there may be more soon!

ive watched op up to dressrosa and enjoyed it (although dressrosa burnt me out) and have considered picking up the manga but deciding whether to start over to get the better experience or just continue where i left off. as for jojos, i didn't make it past part 3 in the anime. i think it's got a lot of personality but not my thing. but if you decide to stop by for another video, huge thanks!
Yeah berserk definitely I've been reading that one particularly faithfully the last 2 months I'm up to volume 19 now and the story has been f****** amazing sorry for the language but it's it's really amazing

Have you gotten around to reading these manga like rooster fighter , no gun life, dead man wonderland, attack on Titan ,Hellsing, and a few others in the future that I'll mention.
If you do like a future review on a manga you have a read yet on the channel and I probably throw out if I've read it I'll just give a like or and maybe lead you to another one that you may have not heard about or you've heard about but you haven't really gotten into it yet or you just need a person to give you that you know description to get you into it

i’m considering starting OP manga at some point! and as for hell’s paradise, it’s honestly up to you, i think the manga is a safe option because the anime isn’t out yet, so we can’t say for sure if it’ll be a great adaptation. i’m still hoping, ofc
I actually really disliked Jigokuraku for its ending. It just felt like “hey basically all of the main cast survived like every shonen series!”. How did you feel about the ending?
I recommend Innocent and Innocent Rouge if you enjoy historical fiction (there’s definitely some creative liberties but the art was amazing)

i was fine with it in the sense that I was really attacthed to everyone and we got a really sweet panel at the end with the survivors. I wasn't too happy with the yzuriha death fake out but if the fake out part was otherwise left out and it was made more clear that most of the cast was surviving I would be very much ok with it. Also, thaks for the recc, but i did try climber this year and didn't really enjoy it so chances are i may not enjoy their other works as well, including innocent and innocent rouge.
Oh yeah I just got a vagabond I just finished that that was dope that was very dope I won't let my friend read it because he's never read it before but I really enjoyed that one it's a pretty good

I've added that to the read list and checking it out as soon as it's done! shotgun boy ended this year and that also had the same author so i read and really enjoyed that.

First person I see putting jigokuraku as his favorite, for me I felt like it was more of a "this is going to be a great anime" love the horror aspect tho
I think it'll be a challenge to recreate the artstyle for jigo. yes, mappa had a good adaptation for csm but i still preferred the manga. either way, hope the anime goes well!
@@ptown7205 I find it especially difficult to adapt "raw feeling" mangas like jigokuraku and chainsaw man, even tho I enjoy the anime mappa puts out I would lie if I l said I like the "clean/bland" that now seems like it's brand, it doesn't truly express the vibe, like a filter, on the other hand the animation is dope af

Good video. My only problem is in Claymore and Berserk being in the same tier. The stories are somewhat comparable, but Claymore doesn't do a single thing better than Berserk. Characters, worldbuilding, artwork, plot, and even humor. It's very hard to argue that any of these things, aren't done much better in Berserk than in Claymore.
i know exactly where you're coming from, and i knew someone would have this response. i actually liked the transformations just as much in Claymore as i did Berserk. My biggest drawback from berserk was the sexual violence, in which Claymore did not have that, thus making it an evenly enjoyable experience. So while claymore wouldn't even exist without Berserk, i still enjoyed them on a similar level, with Berserk having the edge. thanks for your input!

@@ptown7205 The sexual violence in a good Seinen like Berserk isn't meant to be enjoyed. It's the opposite really - the Griffith/Casca Eclipse scene is meant to undercut your admiration of Griffith, bring out sympathy for Casca's tragic situation, and deepen your connection to Guts' motivations. (Among other things.) In fact, this is likely why you got plenty folks harrassing you about "bad taste": they don't understand that your list is more about your taste in manga-as-entertainment, or manga-as-distraction, or manga-as-aesthetically-pleasing, and less so about your taste in manga-as-high-literature, manga-as-challenge, or manga-as-existential. And it makes total sense that someone relatively new to the medium would initially seek out generally pleasurable, even-keeled experiences - no sense in blaming you for that.
@@soleil2947 Thanks for the input! Very well said distinguishing between "entertainment" vs "challenge". I DO understand the point of the violence that occured in Berserk, and it works in it's effectiveness. I just knew there may have been some raised eyebrows for me not putting it in my favorites vs amazing (amazing is still high tier, but that may not have satisfied some). I'm very happy for your response and I wish more Berserk fans would understand what you've said. The other day I saw a Berserk stan chastize someone else for giving it a 9/10 instead of 10/10. Like, 9/10 is still a great score and the stan still thought the other person didn't even read it? AHAHAHA
@@ptown7205 Yeah it really doesn't make sense to chastise people for their taste over the internet. It's never going to genuinely change someone's mind about a show. And if you're a fan of something and intend to enter "the public discourse" about it, you can easily learn more about it and hype it up without bullying some arbitrary out-group who "don't get it" (which most of the time means: they did get it, but they didn't care about getting the same things *out of* the fictional work that you did).
Side note: I would recommend Oyasumi Punpun since it's fucking phenomenal, and Inio Asano's easily in the top 3 mangaka of all time. But it's got a lot of what you would hate or avoid. So instead I'd highly recommend checking out Asano's lighter-tone stuff like Solanin and Dead Dead Demon's Dededede-Destruction. Both are finished, Solanin is 2 volumes and DDDDD is 12 volumes. Of the two, DDDDD is funnier and Solanin is more sentimental, but they're both super charming and tightly-written.
Nice list, except that Sun Ken Rock should be on the top aha, I agree Jujutsu Kaisen is so overrated, I don't understand why it's so popular.
I do like jjk and im open to liking it more in the future, but i'd be lying if i said i prefered jjk over a lot of other shonen
The ending for Sun Ken Rock was awful, which sucks because everything else was amazing.

@@HeroK1ller-_- Personal opinion, but I think the ending could’ve been better if it didn’t feel so rushed. Boichi could’ve done a few more chapters to delve deeper into character motivations but nah, he just whipped out the most nonsensical ending in a few chapters. It’s not even something he has planned out, he literally changed everything because of the Paris attack.
