Torturing people has never been acceptable. Even in Elizabethan times there was growing criticism about its cruelty and potential for false confessions.
This is a bit freaky, it was "open house" in London last month when buildings usually closed to the public are open. I went to Guildhall and sat in this very room.
@ktwashere5637 not so. Many people were actually racked and refused to give information- they were then burned at the stake. Anne Askew is a good example of this, being racked three times and literally carried to the stake on a chair, and burned alive.
1583, that’s impressive to be able to go back that far. My mom was able to go back to 1691 with her mom’s side of the family. They are all German. I just wish I knew the story behind everyone in her family.

Can't judge our ancestors by present day judgements
Not that Josh ever tortured us with his acting.
💯 % and present day values and mentality

100% right
@@123benny4 Har Har Har Har. So funny. Not
I don’t know why, but I just kept picturing the breakfast club movie because he’s dressed like the John Bender character.
We shouldn't be judged by our ancestors and we should be free to appreciate or acknowledge them for at least contributing to giving us life.

Josh - if you were at risk of being burnt alive whilst tied to a post, you would likely backtrack to save yourself from this happening too.

Don't believe Josh was able to read the original document which is in Secretary Hand.
I was thinking the same thing: it was obviously transcribed to be clearer and easier to read.
He practiced to read that so eloquently.
He’s reading the transcription, I’m sure. They’re just showing the original letter
Very interesting!!!
I do love Guildhall, my favourite lunch spot when I worked in Basinghall Street..

“Whatever, Dude.” Sigh. 🙄
I wonder what HE would do in the same conditions of his life was on the line !!😊
You live in 2000 he lived in the 1500. Life and rules were WAY WAY different! You’re reacting as 20th century man!!!!!!
DUHAMEL is french (Du = From the, and Hamel = Village) so why his name is french?.... They should search first the French branch of his ancestors.
Who is this guy who's the subject of this? I'm American, he's got an American accent, but I've never heard of him.
Josh is an actor. I know him best from the Transformers movies, lol.
Don’t ask me. I’m American too, and I have no freaking clue.
Never heard of him either but it looks like we're distant cousins of sorts.
He is an Actor apparently
He's in Vegas and Transformers movies
This guy hasn't learnt a thing.
Queen Elizabeth I! or Queen Elizabeth II?
1582 - would make it Queen Elizabeth I.
@@joannephillips6781 I was pointing out the lame clickbait of using an exclamation mark to make it look like QE2
Would be Queen Elizabeth 1 not 2
The letter says 1582 go figure...
