They had rounded up all the male of all ages to execute them. My uncle saved them. Long story, point is, after World War Two they had more luck. Documents for my dad in Tripoli were non existent
If you spare just three hours a week from your time and devote it to learning Greek, you’ll become fluent in less than a year. Thus, there’s no excuse for admitting not knowing your ancestral language.
The years 1904-16 was the time of the "Spanish Influenza" as well as post-war famines. Greece was abandoned by the Ottoman Empire and invaded/plundered piecemeal by Italian and Bulgarian princes in the interim
I'm really trying to understand what the heck you're talking about. Greece was never... abandoned by the Ottoman Empire (you make it sound as if it's a bad thing for Greece). The precise verbiage would be that Greece 'hacked' the Ottoman Empire in the 1st Balkan War (1912-1913), thus liberating Epirus and Macedonia, with the latter being coveted by Bulgaria, ally of Greece in the 1st Balkan War but enemy in the 2nd Balkan War (1913), which Greece also won, thus solidifying the annexation of Macedonia to the Independent State of Greece. Bulgaria had always dreamt of gaining access to the Aegean Sea, however their dreams remained dreams. Therefore, there was no Bulgarian invasion of Greece and there was no Italian invasion of Greece either from 1904 to 1916. I guess you refer to the Italian seizing of the Dodecanese but this happened when the islands were part of the Ottoman Empire.
Totally nonsense.. what the heck are you talking about?... abandoned by Turks?.. and invaded by Bulgarian and Italian princes..? Is your history knowledge THAT GOOD 😂😂😂.....?.....

I will tell you why Greeks left Greece. For many in the 50's who went to Australia, it was because Australia needed workers. The Greek government sold them to the Australian government and was supposed to give the money to the families they left behind. And in true Greek tradition, they did not pass on the money. The government kept it. For others who left. It was because there was no future in Greece. And for Greeks today still in Greece there is no future. The ones that left, made money, purchased houses and carved out a decent living. And now travel back and forth to Greece. However, Greeks don't consider them to be Greek.
