Quick thing I found: 1. Aim at your feet 2.dash 3.shoot then quickly jump. Note this is a bit useless because you can achieve practically the same effect is you slide jump instead.
Funny trick I found earlier. when you ride a rocket, you can switch to the nailgun and shoot out a magnet. This makes the rocket your riding home into the magnet. You can use this as a makeshift whiplash in case you’re low on blood and a maurice is alive.
You can also shoot two frozen rockets upwards then ride the upper one. It'll run out of fuel, but stay in the air, static - Since the bottom one did not run out of fuel and is supporting it. "So can I shoot even more rockets to fly upwards infinitely without running out of fuel?" Yes! The more rockets shot, the faster you can Kerbal your way into orbit. Seems to be a bit fickle, and doesn't work in some maps like Starless Sea.
Another interesting trick that can be done is to grapple and enemy at roughly the same time as you shoot a rocket. Doing so will trigger the large explosion with the enemy still being very close to the ground
"Rocket Whiplash" Ah, yes, of fucking course you can combo it like that, because this is Ultrakill and if something sounds like fun, you can probably do it and we love Hakita for it. Cool tech btw. Maybe I'll finally stop dying to falling off some bullshit iin cybergrind.
The best tech for rockets I've found is whiplashing, then immediately shooting a rocket at a light enemy. This creates the falling explosion, can oneshot soldiers, and deals massive damage to surrounding enemies. It's also super easy to pull off in the heat of the moment. You can even delay the time you take to fire the rocket, so you pull the enemy you're targeting towards a group of enemies before blowing them up. Another tech I really like is doing weapon swaps that go: rocket, slab, rocket, shotgun (projectile boost if you're really good), rocket, shotgun, slab, etc. This is the highest damage weapon swap combo I've found as of right now, and it can take out Cerberuses and swords machines astonishingly fast. It's tech like this that makes me love the rocket launcher. I'm just imagining what it will be like when variants of the rocket launcher come out, and we can hotswap rockets like we can with the shotguns.
A tech I discovered on my own is you can sync rockets like in team fortress 2 to gain extra height. The speed you go when slamming towards the ground is about the same speed that rockets travel in, so using a stored slam to get some height you can sync a bunch of rockets for lots of height or lots of damage.
A tech from which I learned from Herb Messiah was while in the air even if falling you can look straight and a bit low, freeze rockets, shoot a rocket and dash at the same time, then unfreeze the rocket, this basically mounts you on the rocket automatically with almost 0 loss of power
5:30 Instead of slamming, I find that just holding backwards seems more consistent than slamming for mounting it. You're already likely to be wanting to steer the rocket up, plus it doesn't send you slam plummeting if you miss.
Dash, shoot and freeze at the same time while looking slightly down, and then unfreeze instantly. Fast rocket ride, works everywhere, only looks down a little bit.
Great guide, I hadn't thought to take advantage of falling explosion close to the ground or as spawn traps. Also, rocket surfing works without the slam, a dash alone is good enough to get on the rocket. Just thought I'd mention because I occasionally hold a movement key and fail the fast mount, which has no penalty with just dashing, but can easily cause death offstage with the added slam.
you forgot about the park where you can annoy everyone/everything in a 50 kilometer radius by shouting "za warudo" every time you use the rocket freeze
Rocket riding is currently one of my most used forms of movement, even including slam storage. One of the best things Hakita has added fs. The rocket launcher is somehow better as a movement tool than being a rocket launcher, (even above the rocket jumper lmao) especially if you master the quick mounts Now for someone to do a camera mod so I can do UltraPlane simulator while turning my rocket
There are 3 methods in total for rocket mounting that are not just beginner shoot freeze and jump onto from far away. One uses dash, one uses slam and one uses neither. The pros: slam can be done at many angles, dash can be done while falling, and the third is easiest to learn. The cons: slam is slow only when going from ground to rocket, dash doesn’t work at all shot angles and the third is the slowest of the three methods. HOW TO DO Since the videos shows how to do one (dash-slam not necessary just dash) I will only explain 2. How to do neither slam/dash. All you gotta do and jump forward and don’t hold w, then as you are rising in the jump leftclick right click quickly and once you start falling from the peak height of the jump right click. Slam method Right click, left click, jump, slam right click. Do this quickly.
One combat skill that I find quite useful is to launch a whiplash at an enemy that you can reel in, then a few frames after shoot a rocket. The enemy will be picked up off the ground and almost immediately hit with the rocket, creating a very reliable long range air rocket snipe.
Well. Previously, I thought that the Rocket Launcher is an extremely bad weapon until it has found a rather interesting way to use it. If you get into timing when mind flayer is going to release the spheres and at this moment hold a shot, you will automatically completely kill this enemy Also, the rocket launcher can be used if you have a bad aim on opponents. If you have time to use the hook when the projectile flew into the enemy, then the projectile will somehow hit and cause more damage to the enemy and increase its radius. Also hitting next to the enemy when he shoots at you with a projectile you can deflect this projectile with the radius of the rocket launcher and this radius can kill nearby standing opponents. I'm sorry if something is not clear, English is not my native language.
Basically whiplashing a lightweight enemy will put them in falling motion, hence you will get red bigger explosion pretty much instantly at the enemy location.
Whiplash rocket is the fastest explosion that can kill groups of Soldiers since they can't block red explosions It's a bit wonky because rocket explosions have like a knockback explosion that's bigger than the damage explosion? idk, it really helps against soldiers, is all
This kind of shit is why Ultrakill's become my new favorite FPS. You don't just get one weapon with one mod. You basically get a weapon and a ton of subweapons, and maybe a bunch of movement options too by mixing it up with other weapons.
Huh didn't know about the downward whiplash mount however that method requires quite a bit of space off the ground. The method I've been using for when you are falling is look slightly down, freeze, dash+fire, wait about 0.2 sec, unfreeze. The timing is a little hard.
Completely separate topic but I feel so dumb rn. I always saw “Don’t fight the ferryman” *JUST GIVE HIM A FUCKING COIN WHY DIDNT I THINK OF THAT GOD DAMNIT*
One niche thing I discovered is that you can use whiplashed rockets to trigger airshots with yourself, which can be used in enemies that cannot be falling, like cerbs and Virtues. You can the explosion and still trigger the airshot and I’m pretty sure it has more aoe than an overpump (but damage?). The is tough to time but I imagine that you can use this as an offensive tool if you can time it well
I just started playing ULTRAKILL and have gotten through most of the first act, I wanted to watch some videos to see what others do with the combat... My brain is going to explode.
Well I'm 8 months late, but this will be very helpful in my Cyber Grinding. Been trying to utilize cannon ball a bit more, which makes me want to rocket ride, but am too slow with the inputs since I use my pinky for both slide and dash. I'm sure I'll find the whiplash-rocket ride very useful for when I fall off the map for the 5th time and can't find a heavy enemy to grab
The rocket launcher is really great because it allows players who haven't yet gotten a hang of the projectile boost a method of easy-access explosion that doesn't have a 16-second cooldown, and for those who have mastered the pboost it lets them swap between the two for a constant flow of explosions
Thank you so much! I saw a cyber grind video where the person playing was just zooming around and I wanted to know how to do it. Also I love the art at the end! ❤
Here’s a glitch I found while messing around in the sandbox: if you slide up to a wall and shoot a rocket at the corner between the floor and the wall while still holding slide, you will land with the ability to slide in any direction you look. This work while skipping on water too!
if you want to make any smaller enemy into a red explosion just whiplash then shoot right after since the whiplashed enemy is considered airborne and the hook moves at roughly the same speed as the rocket.
I was messing around in sandbox just doing rocket jumps when suddenly I just clip through through the ground. Rocket riding is really broken, you can even go OOB with it. You can also easily clip through the sandbox barrier with it. Also you can clip inside the thick barrier behind the top wall where you spawn. I found going OOB to occur when you are already deep enough in the object you are clipping through/into, which is kind of tough to do coz the rocket explodes if it's tip touches anything, so I just recommend shooting a rocket as close as you can (It works best with ceilings). But it also sometimes just happens at random if you are riding it horizontally. I can't seem to find a consistent setup just yet but hoping to do so. That way I managed to accidentally clip inside of the airlock in 5-1 which led me to discover rocket clipping as a whole...
One thing I heard about is that the turning speed for the rocket riding is based on your fps, I haven't tested it myself but it might be something to look into
you can make a situational nuke using maurice beam and a rocket (i know you can do this with grenades too but using the rocket it's much easier) if you have a high priority enemy but you are occupied with others you can put on it a nail gun magnet while you freeze and shoot rockets
If you ultraboost while riding the rocket you actually go a bit further and higher while taking 15 less damage. You'll also be thrown where the rocket is facing, unless its vertical, in which case it'll throw you where you're standing in relation to it
What I do: look slightly down, freeze + shoot + dash, then unfreeze. Very easy to remember, but holding any directional key will fuck up the dash (except w, but holding w makes the rocket go down immediately). I found it to be the easiest way to do it from labbing by myself. Of course it's the *easiest for me* , but you may find other inputs easier for you. At some point I gotta record a game of CG and use the one descibed because I just started using this one today and it's already better than the one I was using previously.
look a little bit down right click immediately press shift a couple frames later left click wait just a little bit and press right click this works no matter your fall speed and horizontal speed, in the air, all the time. its faster and easier than what he says IMO
4:34 hey i discovered this one! edit: im pretty sure at least, found it out day 1. im not the one to make it well known however, that goes to a reddit user i completely forgot the name of! mainly because no matter where i posted it, it got 0 attention!
i know how that feels, i figured out the whiplash instant rocket riding and published a guide before this and got 62 views total. really annoys me how difficult it is to get attention for things you find
You can mount at any time, even while falling by doing freeze-fire-dash-unfreeze, you also need to aim down slightly but you can do it in mid-air at any time to get back up
Hey, great video, I discovered ( so I think) that if you jump, shoot the rocket in your feet while falling and whiplash it, you jump a little higher. Is not useful but is there I guess.
Rocket riding is fun but have you tried whiplash immediately into rocket to airburst rocket-immune enemies? They aren’t immune when in the air and it does big damage to everything around them because airburst go brr
I found a bunch of ways to ride rockets but the best one I discovered is simply dash -> shoot rocket slightly low -> freeze rockets -> ride rocket -> unfreeze rockets. You can perform it easily but doing it really fast makes it almost instantaneous. I also found that ground slamming after using whiplash on a rocket directly below you removes the need for falling.
This is an awesome video, love your content. Nice, chill overview of super difficult tech that I’m too bad to use. I’m just not invested enough in the game to get better but I love watching it, makes my brain melt in a good way
For my quick mount method I aim slightly down + shoot rocket/freeze at same time + dash + unfreeze. For me this method is quick enough to use in combat and also quite forgiving as the rocket will typically catch you at the end of your dash
pretty good trick to rocket mount i wasnt a fan off the other method where you have to do 4 inputs it just wasnt consistent now with 2 inputs its really easy and with no disadvantages over the other method
You can skip the looking down part and do pretty much completely instant rocket ride out of stationary position by doing freeze > shoot > jump > slam > unfreeze
as cool as this is, I've never really found the rocket launcher useful except maybe getting kills for falling enemies. And even then, I pull it out more 'cause I forgot I had it and feel compelled to use it rather than wanting to use it because it's cool or because I find it useful. Most of the things it can do, other guns do better (and while some options cost health, it is simpler to execute, like 3x pumping the green shotgun as opposed to whiplashing a rocket while falling), and while rocket riding is neat, it doesn't feel like it'd be rewarding to actually master it due to its clunkiness and the short amount of time you get while riding a rocket. There are some niche scenarios where the rocket is good but in a game with so much explosions, the rocket launcher is surprisingly underwhelming. The only times I've used it/seen it used is traversal outside of combat or glitching through doors/walls, which the latter obviously isn't intended
@@neutralknight.6862 I'm talking about the campaign, I don't play Cyber Grind that much. Cyber Grind is much more open whereas there aren't that much arenas in the campaign where everything's open enough to rocket ride - at least for me.
I dunno, given the ridiculous movement potential and easy-to-use ranged knockback... I think it's doing just fine. Oh btw the rocket launcher has way better damage than you probably realize. Took me about... 20 hours to use this thing consistently.
@@Aburner1109 I use it a little more now, I've found it's better pulling it out every once in a while for either quick damage or knocking something in the air (like a Stalker or Soldier) to then shoot with the revolver. Still don't really use rocket riding but I might need to learn sometime soon
for the campaign, I find it very usefull to deal rapidly with streetcleaners. Since they can't parry the projectile away while frozen, you can just put a rocket, and wait for them to explode on it
I learned to insta-mount by moving forward while doing it so I don't have to break my fingers while dash-slamming. Might be useful for some of you out there.
uh i found out that u can throw coins in stratosphere with rockets just like with knuckblaster, look below you, jump, throw a coin, walk a lil backwards mid air, shoot rocket (in floor) and boom, it will launch in syratosphere, looks cool, i will make a video about it on my channel. i don't think that pretty useful but that cool, rocket coin throw? (RCT) lol
you can also launch coins straight up by grappling them from directly below, i think as high as you want. not particularly helpful in combat but you can stop their fall from anywhere

Rocket riding is currently one of my most used forms of movement, even including slam storage. One of the best things Hakita has added fs. The rocket launcher is somehow better as a movement tool than being a rocket launcher, (even above the rocket jumper lmao) especially if you master the quick mounts
Now for someone to do a camera mod so I can do UltraPlane simulator while turning my rocket
HOW TO DO
Since the videos shows how to do one (dash-slam not necessary just dash) I will only explain 2. How to do neither slam/dash. All you gotta do and jump forward and don’t hold w, then as you are rising in the jump leftclick right click quickly and once you start falling from the peak height of the jump right click.

If you get into timing when mind flayer is going to release the spheres and at this moment hold a shot, you will automatically completely kill this enemy
Also, the rocket launcher can be used if you have a bad aim on opponents.

One thing I heard about is that the turning speed for the rocket riding is based on your fps, I haven't tested it myself but it might be something to look into
Super helpful, I wish all guides were like this
Rocket launchers carry immense explosive power. Remember to always shoot near enemies- no need to hit them directly!
it wont do damage if that happens
you can make a situational nuke using maurice beam and a rocket (i know you can do this with grenades too but using the rocket it's much easier)
if you have a high priority enemy but you are occupied with others you can put on it a nail gun magnet while you freeze and shoot rockets
If you ultraboost while riding the rocket you actually go a bit further and higher while taking 15 less damage. You'll also be thrown where the rocket is facing, unless its vertical, in which case it'll throw you where you're standing in relation to it
Your whiplash combos are fascinating
What I do: look slightly down, freeze + shoot + dash, then unfreeze. Very easy to remember, but holding any directional key will fuck up the dash (except w, but holding w makes the rocket go down immediately). I found it to be the easiest way to do it from labbing by myself. Of course it's the *easiest for me* , but you may find other inputs easier for you.
At some point I gotta record a game of CG and use the one descibed because I just started using this one today and it's already better than the one I was using previously.
look a little bit down
right click
immediately press shift
a couple frames later left click
wait just a little bit and press right click
this works no matter your fall speed and horizontal speed, in the air, all the time.
its faster and easier than what he says IMO
While sliding, look down and shoot with the rocket, you can slide in every direction, works with jump sliding.
You can mount at any time, even while falling by doing freeze-fire-dash-unfreeze, you also need to aim down slightly but you can do it in mid-air at any time to get back up
I really hope a fix comes soon which makes it so you can switch the keybind for the rocket, It’s very annoying having to reach for it mid combat
7:28 Ferryman and Gabriel
I found that switching between projectile boost and rockets absolutely shreds a cerberus
Hey, great video, I discovered ( so I think) that if you jump, shoot the rocket in your feet while falling and whiplash it, you jump a little higher. Is not useful but is there I guess.
thank you for showing us how ROHHETS work
Rocket riding is fun but have you tried whiplash immediately into rocket to airburst rocket-immune enemies? They aren’t immune when in the air and it does big damage to everything around them because airburst go brr
I found a bunch of ways to ride rockets but the best one I discovered is simply dash -> shoot rocket slightly low -> freeze rockets -> ride rocket -> unfreeze rockets. You can perform it easily but doing it really fast makes it almost instantaneous.
I also found that ground slamming after using whiplash on a rocket directly below you removes the need for falling.
Very cool guide, also the friday stream was really fun.
You can store as many rockets as your computer can handle by whiplashing constantly.
Something I discovered I like to call rocket hopping is done by initiating a dash jump but firing a rocket right before you hit the ground
> pause
> shoot look up and shoot 2 rockets
> jump (dont mount) and shoot 1 facing down directly above the 2
> mount the top and unfreeze, infinite flight up
should look like this v

Works pretty well lol
You can skip the looking down part and do pretty much completely instant rocket ride out of stationary position by doing freeze > shoot > jump > slam > unfreeze
if god had wanted you to live, he would not have created me!
as cool as this is, I've never really found the rocket launcher useful except maybe getting kills for falling enemies.
Rocket riding is literally the best cybergrind strat look at the lvl100 players
Since they can't parry the projectile away while frozen, you can just put a rocket, and wait for them to explode on it
so basically it can be trolldier or direct hit
This game feels like if Tekken was an fps
I learned to insta-mount by moving forward while doing it so I don't have to break my fingers while dash-slamming. Might be useful for some of you out there.
uh i found out that u can throw coins in stratosphere with rockets just like with knuckblaster, look below you, jump, throw a coin, walk a lil backwards mid air, shoot rocket (in floor) and boom, it will launch in syratosphere, looks cool, i will make a video about it on my channel. i don't think that pretty useful but that cool, rocket coin throw? (RCT) lol
you can also launch coins straight up by grappling them from directly below, i think as high as you want. not particularly helpful in combat but you can stop their fall from anywhere
you can do this with just the knuckleblaster itself
yoooo, beat every level on p, except pinos mrime, and tried to find a way to save from falling in cybergrind, thx
