Dude I have been using Resolve for about 6 months and always was afraid of fusion. I would see what people could do and as cool as it was I would click fusion then nope out of there within 5 seconds. It was so intimidating but you make it very reasonable to learn and understand
This is incredible! I was having so many issues with the polygon tool had no idea I had to disconnect the node before working with it, thank you so much! Awesome tutorial!
Aha found you and I'm waiting for your course again cause I'm just a student and i can't afford your master course so I'm sticking with your tutorial here at TH-cam love the way you teach you are different keep it up👍🥰
Hey Casey, this tutorial doesn't work. I have noticed many have the same problem. Either the Polygon shrinks after linking to Merge1, or disappears. Maybe it is related to the newest Resolve 18.1.1 version(a bug or smthg), or I don't know. I tried different ways, but it didn't work. It is an important function for editors, so how can we fix it? Please review it.
Hey, I was having this same issue. Casey actually explains it in a MUCH newer video titled "Mask Problems? Check Sizing! - DaVinci Resolve Fusion Tips". Basically, instead of attaching the mask to the mediain node, attach it to the mediain's merge node. Watch the video if you want a more in-depth explanation. Hope that helps!
He is very good at what he does! He took the time to reach out to my email about a Fusion issue I was having! I will always recommend his videos to anyone trying to get a foothold with DaVinci Resolve! #Awesome
Really cool tutorial, so easy and simple but actually I didn't know that before! But I am also a davinci resolve rookie (I am working with it just since round about 4 months) THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
This is great and I love your videos. How would you do excatly the same but make it look 3d? Is it just a case of making each Merge Node a 3D merge node? But then what about extrusion? What if you want it to appear as though it's come through the background? These are questions I can't find the answers to.
Well, for the logo you'd have to make it an SVG and convert it into shape nodes. Then use extrude 3d to extrude them. I have a vid on this, as it's sort of a process.
I was already using most of this information in my animated logo that I had built in Fusion. The big takeaway from this tutorial is the spline mask. I am sure I will get some use from it. Thanks for the great content.
Fusion could really use a magnetic tracing tool or a select by color with a sensitivity slider ala Photoshop, not to mention rulers and guide overlays with a snapping capability. I'm just moving over to Resolve from the Adobe tools. There is some really powerful stuff in here, and you teach it well while having a good time. Thank you!

Hi, If you need to resize the logo using the transform tool, into the merge. do you add the polygon to the image or the transform node, or does it not matter? thanks
Any idea how to apply this to an SVG imported into the fusion page? I don't see a way to connect anything to the group Resolve creates when importing the SVG. I tried doing the same kind of node arrangement from this video in the SVG's group, but couldn't get the poly tool cropping correctly or figure out how to properly fit all the nodes on the merges.
This is the exact video I needed to watch! Casey, using the method shown in this video, how would I make text slam onto the screen the way the EA Sports logo does? Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, You're my only hope!
Blerg. My polygon mask is extending it's effect beyond the boarders I have chosen. Resolve 17. Two lines of text, top text poly works fine. Bottom text poly is cutting into top text (in a random shape) and including it with bottom text.
Tried the rectangle at it seems to be extending the mask about 10% above the outline. If i leave the Poly (or rectangle) attached to the Media I can eyeball it but the guide lines are off seems like about 10% outside their range.
very good teaching but I have 1 question that the size of the polygon gets reduced after I separate all items? polygon does not cover the whole area on which I actually applied it?
For me it just doesnt work. Everytime I reconect the polygon node with the Mediain1 my selection dislocates and becomes smaller. Plus It does not grab the image. Idk what the heck is going on.

How do you navigate through DaVinci Resolve FX without a mouse? I'm referring to scrolling up + down to zoom in & out as well as pan (OS Microsoft Windows).
I got as far as reconnecting Polygon1 to MediaIn1 and the result is a vertical chunk of the far right of the logo - a piece of the orange lightning bolt and the vertical part of the blue. I'm stumped.

Great Video!! Moving over to Fusion purely because of this guy! Casey - How do you make sure the logo you bring in fits to the screen? Do you need to bring it in in output size? 1920 x 1080. I've tried scaling using size but this messes things up when I mask. Keep up the good work! I'll be signing up to your training very soon!
is there a way to animate a logo as a vector shape? I have a logo and wanted to animate it using the anchor points and changing the lenghts of some letters
Im following this to a Tee but when i click on the merge node it shows the whole image. It doesnt show what i outlined and hides everything else like in the video. Can anyone help???
when i use the polygon to pick out the part i want animate it doesn't select that part the shape i made around it just moves by itself and not the actual part i outlined please help

when I connect the polygon mask back up to the media file, it makes the mask smaller and it's not over the object I masked. I redid the same process again and it's still doing it. Not sure why

BRO, YOU ARE JUST SO SO GOOD!!! MUCH LOVE FROM BRAZIL!
How would I set the anchorpoint differently so I can rotate my cut-out polygon from a different centerpoint?
He is very good at what he does! He took the time to reach out to my email about a Fusion issue I was having! I will always recommend his videos to anyone trying to get a foothold with DaVinci Resolve! #Awesome
I'm gonna try this with my logo! I'll save this video! Wish ,e luck, and THANKS❤

well explained and to the point. Thanks ^^
Not working for me. When I reconnect the polygon node to Media In, the mask gets dramatically smaller.
same for me... any way to fix this?
yes same for me :(
Maybe you can just connect the mask nodes to your logo, and inverted, then mask your logo. When you done, invert it back
I'm also experiencing this issue, please can someone help
@@frederich_dk That happened to me but in the tools section it says size and you can scale it up
Very powerful! Thanks a lot Casey! 😊👍
Thanks casey you show us very Quick and easy

as soon as I connect the polygon back to the median, the logo is no longer visible or looks like it shrinks.

@@Rekteha same problem, have you resolved it ?

Using a Surface Studio 2 with up to date Windows 10
very good teaching but I have 1 question that the size of the polygon gets reduced after I separate all items? polygon does not cover the whole area on which I actually applied it?
If you reduced the size of the image with merge then you will need to make sure you polygon node is connected to merge and not media in

Great video!!!
thank you so much this was so well explained!
