Nice work, and good job! To do something like this AND film it (quite well, by the way) is a huge undertaking. And you're not even swearing... I would've been cussing the whole time! Very classy; much appreciated.

Love your content man. We need more Audi guys. Honestly, I feel like you left us hangin’ on the single turbo build. It’s all the little details I was after.
On my Allroad, the heater core pops out from under the dash. I am so thankful for that. That was one of my first jobs I tackled.

Wow, very nice video! Glad your channel randomly popped up in my home page. By the way, a word of advice for anyone doing this work. Make sure you get the VW Passat B5.5 heater core. It is a direct fit, no mods needed, and has the METAL feed and return tubes, not the plastic ones our cars have. The inner core apparently has slightly larger diameter pipes as well (have not confirmed this, just rumor).
Also one final tip, you may need to "burp" the new heater core. Remove the return line, and start the car and run the heat at full blast. As the engine comes up to temperature, you will see little squirts of coolant and then it will start gushing out. Put the return line back on, clamp it down, and you got full heat again. Some say this is not needed, and it probably isn't. That hasn't been the case with me. I had to burp the system.
Other than that, EXCELLENT video, and great work chief. By far one of the cleanest and well captured process. Between you and Justin Ballou, great content.

I've got a 96 A4 Quattro, heat quit working last year, and I believe that the blower motor went right after the hot air quit blowing. (Those lil LCD screens on the pre-facelift B5s heat/ac unit don't work lol) I'll be replacing the heater core, blower motor, and (hopefully, if I can find one that still works) the heat/ac controller unit. I've already torn apart much of the dash in the center, and on the passenger side. I was hopeful that it wasn't necessary to remove all the connectors, but it's looking like I'm going to have no choice. Tedious, as you so eloquently put😂🤣. I thank you for your detailed and thorough video, will probably be religiously watching it on repeat as I continue my dash teardown. Also, rewiring my entire audio system while I'm there(which was the original reason for the teardown, but I figured, why not get my heat back too lol). I've used your videos to help me do the brakes, replacing all the front control arms and outer tie rods, and doing my coilovers upgrade(I went with Raceland, on a budget lol). I will most definitely be using your tutorials in the future, and I look forward to seeing what more you do to your S4

Thanks for this very useful video. I am building up to replacing the A/C evaporator and will also replace the heater core at the same time. Seems silly not to as it is a cheap part and most of the 'investment' is in time to expose it.. I have read an instructional blog that describes it as 'the good news is that you only have to remove two screws to replace the heater core, the bad news is that it will take you 6 hours to get to those screws'. How true but we love it right.

I replaced my S4’s heater core recently with a mechanic friend (used this dash pull method). Original BEHR core was not leaking but was very clogged/useless. Decided on the Nissens core for the replacement. It is the plastic end tank design, but Nissens is a very reputable brand and makes a quality product for sure. Considered the all-metal Passat core, but they apparently only put out about 80% of the heat of the quality plastic end tank versions. Sourced the Nissens through Worldpac for about $115. I believe they are available on eBay as well. 3 weeks later and the heat is better than ever. Great heat output even before the coolant temp gauge comes off the peg.
PS be careful not to crack your windshield while swapping the cores out. There isn’t much space to slide it out, we ended up taking the steering wheel off to be able to tilt the dash and get more space. Also, move your seats all the way back and tilt the front all the way down right away before the battery is disconnected and everything is unplugged. You’ll thank yourself later when you need the extra space. This was less of an issue for him because of his lower aftermarket seats.

I am about to attempt this, for different reasons.. short story, totaled my b5, got a slick top chassis for free and it has wiring issues. I want to swap my entire dash to the new (to me) chassis. My question is, can I go ahead and pull the dash out following the way you did this? Thanks a ton in advance! Your engine pull video saved my ass three years ago now!

Nice. I've done a few only done two heater cores ever. One was a fox body other was my escort gt. The escort was a cake walk compared to this. Well I guess I'll be flushing my b5 s4's every fall like I been doing since 2012 then, lol. Mine was clogged when I bought it. Bought it in the summer, owner pulled a good one on me. This car had radiator stop leak in it I think that clogged it. But many owners have this issue for some reason. Not sure what's the issue with the B5s? Small orifices in there I don't know. My 01 B5 A4 thankfully is good.
What's your take on doing a coolant filter on the car?
Also if you ever feel like it make a video about lining of bumpers up all nicey-nice. Both my bumpers are all jacked up. The height adjustment on my front bumper supports does not work

    • @CIPGAS
      @CIPGAS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Damn stop leak! I hate when people do shot like that. Also I have never heard of a coolant filter but I don’t think it would be a bad idea as long as flow is restricted to much. The passage ways/orifices in the core are very small in order to fit more of them on the core for better performance but that is what leads to all the clogging and then leaking.
And sadly I might not be your best bet for a video on lining up bumpers. My car has had quick disconnects on it for a while now.

    • @CIPGAS

Considering amount of needed work there are either 3 ways.
    1. Go to mechanic and pay a lot of money. What is most likely to happen is that something will be damaged on the way through and you won't be able to prove that it worked before.
    2. Do it yourself - waste a lot of time, got very mad and also probably damage something what will make you double angry.
    3. Scrap the shit.
