Top 10 AUTUMN Switzerland - Highlights October November

- Everyone admires the green Switzerland, but did you know how wonderful it can be during AUTUMN? Autumn is the season of colors! Indian Summer down in the plains and golden Autumn up in the Swiss Alps. The best months to experience the colors of Autumn are October and November. In general, the colors start to show during the 2nd half of October and last for around 3-4 weeks. The Top 10 places to visit in Switzerland during Autumn combine serenity, colors and pristine nature. These can be found in the Jura region, around vignards and in the cantons of Valais, Ticino, Bernese Oberland and Graubünden. Of course, everywhere in Switzerland you can find beautiful spots. Really beautiful is the village of Romainmôtier in the Jura Vaudois with its nearby waterfalls. The Tine de Conflens, Cascade du Dard and Saut du Day are embedded into a beautiful forest, which shows it’s Indian Summer vibes from their best side! Eye-catching are the vignards around Ligerz in der Jura-3-Lakes region. In particular around the pilgrimage church it is very nice to go for a hike and walk among the golden vineyards. Although there will be many sunny days, October and November do not always have good weather. In that case the Grotte de Vallorbe may be a perfect place to visit; great to combine with Romainmôtier on sunny days. The vineyards of the world famous Lavaux are also dreamy to visit. Three major spots to go to would be the villages of Epesses, Saint-Saphorin and Rivaz. They are all serene; Saint-Saphorin has the view, Rivaz the hidden gem sort of feeling. Hike among the vineyards with their beautiful golden leaves and do not forget to enjoy the view over Lake Geneva (Lac Léman), especially during the sunset when the golden leaves will glow in red. This is one of the most beautiful things to experience during Autumn in Switzerland. Definitely, consider visiting lakes: The Lac Bleu in Arolla is very eye-catching. It is surrounded by many golden larches, very similar to the Lake of Palpuogna or the Silsersee in the Engadin region. These lakes are perfect to go for hiking. Lake Sils and Palpuogna can be easily reached by car, the Lac Bleu would have to be reached by hiking. The Lagh da Saoseo (Lake Saoseo) can be reached by hike or by Postauto bus (make mandatory reservations on sbb.ch). Lake Saoseo is surrounded by green spruces and golden larches and perfectly shines with its strong royal blue color. Definitely with the ensemble of colors, this place is probably the most unique to visit during Autumn season. Autumn is though not only about colors, it’s also quite a foggy season, especially during November. You may either enjoy the mystical side of the foggy weather by staying down in the Swiss plateau and walk in the forest full of fog. However, better use this often depressing weather to your advantage and consider going up to the peaks. The Fronalpstock or Aletsch Glacier are two among many spots where you can witness the cloud inversion. Standing above the fog, above a sea of clouds. This is one of the most unique phenomena one could get to see during Autumn. The highest chance for this is usually during November. This Top 10 Autumn in Switzerland list may give you some great idea, but it shall also be kept in mind that there are plenty of other beautiful places, and also cultural events to experience during this season!

I wanted to enquire, you haven’t included any of the popular tourist destinations like Matterhorn, Jungfrau, Titlis, Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen etc. Are they pretty in Autumn too? Could one have an itinerary which includes some of these places as well?
Hi. Thanks for your comment :) Welcome to my channel. I try to expose people to some less-known places, as the most popular spots in my opinion already are very famous. Regarding Autumn, I feel these places are indeed not among the Top 10, or at least it was not pretty enough during the time I have traveled there during Autumn; I though love these places. I have been to Zermatt during Autumn but it would be just very magical around the Grindjisee. Jungfrau since it's above 3000m is the pretty much the same during the whole year, Titlis is same as in Winter (it's in my Top 10 Winter travel guide), Interlaken city is not interesting for seeing Autumn foliage, Lauterbrunnen is best during Spring/Summer or Winter when there is snow. Could you please do a winter Iternary for Switzerland which also includes Christmas markets. Hard to plan that one. We are planning a trip Dec15th for a week and would love your recommendations. We are really excited about Christmas markets as its our first time experiencing it in Europe (we are from Seattle, US) but otherwise we are concerned we wont have much to do and every place would look the same covered in snow. Would love to know what you think. Thanks in advance.

December otherwise is not too snowy anymore because of the global warming that has worsened over the past years. Still good chances for snow are in places like Zermatt or Saas-Fee. I made videos for both of these places. Otherwise Engadin is good as well, good chance for snow. The snowy months are still January and March.

Hi. Thanks for your comment. Happy you will be visiting Switzerland during October. 4 days is short, so I suggest maximum visit 2 destinations and do short excursions from these places, else you waste too much on getting from A to B to C. Blausee and Giessbach should be very beautiful during this time. Lauterbrunnen is best to be visited in Summer or during snow. I prefer the places in this list over Berner Oberland. But that's of course very subjective. The time when the colors set in is very hard to predict. In 2022 it happened even earlier than 20th October. Usually around the 15th to 25th is the best but that does not apply to every year.
Hi Djemo. Ypu shoulf come to North Sumatra area. There is a beautiful lake, Lake Toba . You may vist during December. You may see how the Bataks culture to celebrate the Chrismas festival season. Many places you may visit at the Samosir island. You wil amaze by the scene of the Lake Toba.

Hi Djemo, could you advise me some cool activities in Ticino and around Geneva like a good spa, or maybe some outdoor activities that are still available in autumn, maybe shopping centers, restaurants in Ticino you would suggest etc (I'm in area Como and for another week in Geneva) but I don't mind driving 1.5 hours or so. I will be there for 2 weeks in October and im writing down where i should go. I already wrote down the basic places, and waterfalls and the town you said thats the most beautiful town with the botanical garden etc. I love visiting not-so-touristy or obvious places.
Hi. Thank you so much for your nice comment. For Ticino I have plenty of videos that I published; there is a separate playlist for these. All of them can be still visited in Autumn. But bear in mind, you may have to bring your own lunch as the restaurants may likely be closed already. Or else, call them to reserve for lunch. Very alive are of course the cities and there you can do shopping and easily find places to eat or go for a boat ride in Lugano. Around Geneva, I recommend place number 10, 8 and 6 shown in this videos. They are all close by and little touristy. Hope that helps :)

Also, do you (or anyone here) knows what is the best way to get to Lac Bleu by using public transportation from Interlaken?
Hiii. Thank you so much! Around Lucerne I would recommend the Fronalpstock or even much nearer Pilatus during cloud inversion. The Lac Bleu is very hard to reach by public transport from Interlaken. Even by car one way will take you at least 2.5 hours!

@@preetihirave820 hi. The lavaux are near montreux, then also Romainmotier is not so far away and the cave. Im not familiar with the golden pass. You probably would have to ask the personnel selling it. Else Champex Lac but might take 2h to reach.

Hi. That's nice! Only some of them. You would have to take train first and then change to bus, to reach the more remote villages like Champex-Lac or Lavaux Villages. Only Ligerz can directly be reached by train, by a subsequent bus only. Please check on sbb.ch

Hi Edward. I already registered my drone for the EU law back in 2021. It's easy. Just register and adhere to the guidelines. Mini 3 still needs to be registered. Be aware of no fly zones.

Switzerland is special because it's so small, alpine and it has a high density of beautiful spots. The official languages are German, French and Italian. Rumantsch is a national language only official in Graubünden.
Hi. This coming Nov. 12 will be my first year anniversary here in Switzerland. Haha. I arrived last year and have been to some of the places featured here. I am living in Lausanne. My question is, are most of these places accessible by public transport? I am particularly interested in visiting Lac Bleu. Looks magical.
Hi Jay. That's nice that you have been here since 12 years. You may take the bus up to Arolla to visit the lac Bleu. Ask the bus driver to stop at the right place for you to get to visit the lake.

Hi Scott. The flore is quite different from the USA or Canada. Maple trees exist here but most of the trees here are different ones. Most colors are yellow orange and green. All in all, Autumns here are very colorful. There is a bit red but not as much as it shows in North America.

Hi Markus. Autumn is cooler. Around 10-20°C usually. It rains during every season, we do not have dry and rainy season like in the tropical zone. There will be sunny and rainy days. What is great abt Autumn is that often you will have unobstructed views to the 4000er mountains. Did you watch the entire video?

@@reylchinoe i cant predict the weather. Its all abt luck. We dont have rainy season like in Asia. It can rain anytime during the year. Never explored Gimmenwald but its not the best place for Autumn colors I think.

@@DjemoGraphic actually the initerary thats been provided included grimmwld which is one of my dream place to visit. But not sure which season should i go. The travel agent allow us to adjust the initerary. Its kinda like self trip and with guidance from them. If those places u mentioned in the video near to zurich or its reachable by train , i would love to go those places 🙇🏼♂️ walking down the villages is one of my goal with mountain views . Hope i make a right decision but anyway your video helps alot 💕
