I am sorry that the system didn't work for you. As long as it is bouncing back, that is the most important thing of all 👍🏼👍🏼 thank you so much for taking the time to join in, Nicole! I appreciate your time and input about this awesome orchid 🫶🏼
Great story/history regarding your neo! I'm sure it will grow well and in no time it will put out multiple fans and blooms for you may be next year! Thanks for sharing and happy growing.
Neofinetias are my favourite orchids, the scent of the flowers is just divine 🤍🤎 I live in France, and I have a few of them for several years now, and I have noticed that they hate having the roots constantly wet, so it's no surprise that your plant with time started to decline, they really like for the substrate to dry out very quickly after watering, even in pure moss be careful and let it dry out, also they hate when the moss starts to deteriorate, they need to be changed, I had mine in old sphagnum moss during this winter and recently noticed they all started to have root rot, I quickly removed them all and will keep the bare root for some time then maybe put them in fresh moss or pumice. They also need a period of cooling down in winter months to be able to bloom in spring I noticed :) Hope yours bounces back they are such little jewels would be sad to loose it.
Hey Friend! You are looking great! So sad semi hydro did not work for this neo. ❤ the Liquid Gold😂 I remember watching the videos on this lady. Who knows? She may bloom for you in next year 😊🌸
Thank you Trish ❤️ omg! You saved me with that liquid gold during the pandemic 😄 I remember I only had coconut husk for a while. I hope she blooms next year. Did Sharry Baby ever bloom for you?
I am so so glad I found your channel. Love your content and your professionalism. I agree with you after trying many mediums (in a ten year span) for me the best by far is moss. My orchids are outside on a cover patio I use clay pots and moss and my orchids have thrive. Keep up the good work. By the way forgot to mention I live on a tropical island.
I just watched Nina's vid which lead me here. Not the first time. I saw your semi-hydro initial success you mentioned above. Have most materials, but not a meter ... so never made the leap. Coincidently, I investigated kokedama with sphagnum as well, sphagnum in pots, one in just bark and one with pot in pot. Sphagnum is what nearly all my orchids are repotted in these days. When dry (crunch), water ... provides humidity while evaporating ... so easy. Thanks for the vids.
Thank you for watching! It's nice to see what works for everyone. I was kind of surprised the leca stopped working with the neo. I thought for sure it'll be fine since she thrived for two years. I think the moss will work out well long term.
Thank you for sharing your experience, it was very useful to me. I am sure your plant will be back to full health. Moss tends to make miracles with orchid roots. :)
Hi Nicole. My Neo. Vanda is potted in spagnum . She’s growing well. Has 3 new fans, but has yet to bloom. Since I water only once a week spagnum seems to work out well. Thanks for sharing. 👏❤️🤗
Hi Nicole!!! I know the feeling, it must have been a shock. After two years doing so well and then... So sorry about it. On the bright side, your Neo is not dead and it will bounce back. It just takes time, they grow so slowly, right? Good luck, some orchids need a lot of patience. Beijinhos e bom fim de semana 😘😘😘
Hi Nicole, Its Ileana, so sorry to hear the semi hydro setup did not work for you. Hope the last fan recuperates well in the new spagnum moss set up! You are a great orchis mommy! Be blessed. 😻
Leca doesnt degrade but you need to renew it. It acumulates salt build up. And once that happens the roots start to asphixiate. And the plant will die super fast. To renew it you need to submerge it with water and vinegar half and half so it drops the salt. If you potted it in sphagnum moss it will be the same, they need to dry faster. So when you see the way they are cultivated they have a inverted basquet below and you put a layer of spaghnum and then the root and another layer of spagnum, and you tie it loosely with dental floss. This way the root system will get perfect aireation and will dry much faster. You water once the sphagnum is about to dry and they neew good air circulation. The alternative is just regular fast drying bark mix.
I have one latouria in leca with the wick and it’s been growing/blooming like crazy. I moved a second one to that set up and it bloomed for the first time in two years. Go figure. My neo was struggling in a bark mix so I changed to very loose moss about a month ago. We’ll see.
That's great on the latouria! I think my struggle with the latouria dens is that I've been bad with flushing the. I hope your neo grows well in moss :)
My Neofinetia Falcata is growing in an empty basket pot, the very same way all my vandas are growing in, without any media at all. Just water it everyday, sometimes twice on hot & dry days, and skip watering it when it's rainy. It's located outdoors all year round. I'm in the tropics, no 4 season climate for me.
Hi keep my falcata orchid in a glass jar, I fill it with water every day, leave it I’ll the roots turn green, then dump out the water; repeat every day. The Vanda loves 8:04 8:14 it and has bloomed
It’s so disappointing when something flourishes and then goes downhill! 😩 I’m sure she will grow back! I’m thinking about lava rock for my next repot…currently chunky bark and perlite are my method.
My two are 3 years old..never bloomed! I put it under grow lights about 5 months ago and they are growing! but no flowers.... I water them about every 3-4 days.. San Diego. What is your advice?
@@karentemecula check out my Vanda indoors care video. I think sometimes they need time with the lights. If you started giving them bright grow lights late spring / summer, you'll probably get the results during their next bloom season (spring / summer). If they don't bloom the light might not be strong enough. Fertilize them well too, they can be heavier feeders!

Oh no! I was always impressed by how much you got your neo to bloom. I hope it bounces back for you in sphagnum.
Thank you! Yes it surprised me too! It was doing well for 2 years then none of the new roots adapted!!

Great and informative; I just got one. Would the moss make the roots rot especially in the winter?
Provided you pot it up a bit fluffy and don't over water it should be fine! Im glad you enjoyed the video. Happy growing!

Agreed! I've learned from this. Experimenting is the only way to figure out what works in your environment
I bought my neo from hauserman orchids. Mine lives in terra cotta with bark /perlite
Nice! I'm sure yours is growing nicely ❤️
@@NicoleDeanna it is, but my pink variety is a much slower grower,

Interesting. Neofinetia roots need a lot of air circulation around them and dry out quickly. They hate staying wet all the time.
Yes, leca didn't work out for it - it worked for the first two years then started declining pretty quickly. The moss should work out better!
@@NicoleDeanna Good luck
Me and LECA are not friends either😅
My cattleyas love it, but everything else hates it. I hope you're well Yoshi ❤️
