  • Glossary
    Knurled - Small ridges on the edge or surface. This makes a round-shaped nut easier to tighten and loosen.
    Pneumatic - A pneumatic tyre operates by air under pressure.
    Pump (portable) - This is a hand pump. It is easy to carry around, but takes a lot of effort to inflate a tyre with one of these.
    Pump (track) - A track pump, sometimes called a stirrup pump or a floor pump, is a large pump that is operated by standing on a stirrup or plate and then using both hand to move the handle up and down. It is too heavy to carry around, but it is much easier to get high pressure and a lot of air volume into a tyre with one of these.

    Modern pumps like this are, IMHO, absurd. The old style pumps would connect to the tyre's valve by screwing on a six inch long adapter. That way everything was screwed tightly togather so could arrest assured all o9f the air from the pump would go into the tyre. These modern pumps aren't screwed to the tyre valve, they're pressed on and quite a lot of the air you pump escapes. Nonethless, thanks for the video. Very clear. 👍

    • @cyclemaintenanceacademy
      @cyclemaintenanceacademy  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, thanks for your comment. Fair point! Modern pumps are more compact and easier to carry but there was something about the old pumps that made pumping up tyres easier and safer for the valves. I'm glad that you found the video clear and helpful.😄

      @@cyclemaintenanceacademy well, first of, thanks for answering and for the help, and yeah, after some modifications it sort of works now, still have to fight a little but it'll do for now
      I guess that's on me for going cheap though, so glad I tried it at home and not stranded in the middle of nowhere, one can only wonder why they made the thing so small or if it was even tested

      Hi, thanks for the comment. I understand your frustration. You can try reaching out to the manufacturer or a local bike shop for a replacement part. Who knows, they might be able to help you out. If not then it might be time for a new pump. Keep your spirits up and happy riding!🙂

      Hi Andreas, that's a shame. Did you try any other pump? It might be that yours is faulty.
