    It should be remembered that somebody somewhere has just bought a new road bike, or got one on a cycle to work scheme, maybe never having seen a presta valve before.
    Everybody needs shown the first time, for me the first few times, criticism of this instruction says more about the author than the content.

    Disappointed with the haters. I have a new friend who's just getting in to cycling and she's afraid of pumping her tyres because she's never done it before. You always have to learn, no matter how trivial something might be to you now. To the haters: stfu and stop ruining this sport.

    • @Erginartesia

      Oliver Charles negative comments from people about teaching new people the basics is the mindset of a clique. GCN has a teacher’s values. For cliques, the more you learn, the less you realize how little you know. Teachers remind us that it should be the opposite.

    Every time I run into a new problem with my bike, I type out "GCN: How to..." and here come the correct answer given patiently, confidently, generously,
    and very helpfully. And, it's FREE! There is nothing on GCN to criticize from my point of view. Also, I enjoy the humor and self-deprecating attitudes. It's almost enough to get me to wear lycra. Almost. Thank you all, very much.

    This video is the reason why, GCN, is the best damn, cycling show ever. It is the cycling show that appeals to all cyclist, from beginners, which is the most important, and to professional elites. From the novice to the snob. A truly democratic show. Imagine doing this task everyday, and not being boring or dull. I have been riding for 40 years, and yet, I still watched this video on how to inflate a bicycle tire. WHY?? Because the way it was explained and presented by Simon and GCN, is a model of how things need to be explain,.Again, KUDOS to GCN!!

    Hi, I'm 74, and have been riding since I was 5, off and on (no pun). In 1984 I bought a beautiful, skinny-tire, high end road bike and rode it for about 20 years, thousands of miles.
    Then since 2007 or so I was just riding occasionally, on vacation on any conch bike available. This week I bought a new Schwinn Cabo cruiser bike, online. It arrived today and I had to put it together and then "adjust" everything. Four hours later, I'm done. I had to release air from the feont tire to get it on,
    Then I was unable to get rhe air pumped in again. Whether it was just pausing and starting over or watching the video. It's now ready to go and I took it for a spin. Now to install my lights, mirror, bell and basket and I'll be done.

    So helpful. When I was young I used a bike with a Presta valve so was confused when my new one came. And didn’t know you needed to lose a bit of air to find the right fit before fitting the valve (which on my model the flap went up rather than down to lock, opposite of what I was expecting!) Amazing what can stump you when you’ve left something for about 20 years!

    I actually just bought a new mtb (yeah, I watch GCN to. It's great, and I've learned a lot about biking - and about becoming a better biker [witch includes mountainbiking] from this channel) a few weeks ago and had never seen one of these valves. I went to TH-cam to figure out what I needed and how to use it. This is a great video. A few weeks to late - but somewhere there's someone just like me trying to figure this thing out. Thanks!

    You might have wanted to include that with latex inner tubes you will need to inflate more often than a normal inner tube as they do deflate quite a bit even within 24 hours.

    May I ask? Do you guys deflate your tires between rides? If so, why? I have been doing it ever since day one. Don't know if it's necessary?

    • @gcn
      @gcn  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      We don't tend to, no. Can't remember what the reasoning was behind doing that.

    • @hutch430
      @hutch430 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember now. Back in the day we raced or rode sewup tires. We would always deflate them for whatever reason I forget. I just kept the same practice for years. I have been told with the newer tires it is no longer necessary.
      BTW, I love your channel. Keep up the great work.

    • @johnbouttell5827
      @johnbouttell5827 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's wise to deflate your tyres if you carry your bike in the back of a hatchback. It gets warm in there and your inner tubes will explode.

    • @Diane_R
      @Diane_R 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A member of my bicycle club took their bike to work and stored it in the hot car during the day. When they got to the club ride in the evening after work, they often had a flat tire. After they started to deflate the tires while the bike was being stored in the hot car, the flat tire problem was solved.

    • @gcn
      @gcn  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @brianmoore1164
    @brianmoore1164 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    How about a GCN does science on how much pressure is lost during an efficient pump removal because I know that not all the air you hear is from the pump hose.

    • @ethansloss6854
      @ethansloss6854 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's less than 1 PSI

    • @exe16
      @exe16 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on how much pressure is there to begin with. On MBT (pressures up to 60psi) it's barely noticeable, but on road bikes (110psi+) it may be up to 5psi if your pump is of the screw-type, from my experience.

    • @ethansloss6854
      @ethansloss6854 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bruno Panzero Schechter yeah if it's a screw type you can lose a noticeable amount of pressure but the lever types are basically fool-proof.

      They go fr8m 6.16kg thousands of dollar £££ bikes and special wind tunnel tour bikes to HOW TO INFLATE YOUR TIRES/TYRES???? And a childrens explanation no less. I find this very odd. As much as I enjoy this channel and that they are running out of topics (this one having been covered several time)..enduring commercials for companies and ways to improve ride times on the world's most expensive bikes that 99.9% of consumers don't need but still purchase.... (electronic shifting, more aerodynamic andlighter bikes that give you a worse workout) you can't have it both ways. If you are explaining the Tour, grams of weight saving, power meters and ways to improve timed by watts and miliseconds...YOU CAN'T HAVE A..."HOW TO INFLATE YOUR TIRE/TYRE" video. AND A introductory VERSION AT THAT.
