Dwarf Fortress is a single player game meaning it costs no or very little money to just exist, online games have to pay to exist through the cost of servers. Edit: Dwarf Fortress also costs 30$ on steam, I don't know if it was completely free to play when you originally commented or if your comment is just some weird joke flying over my head.

yes the duel arena was added in 2004. But you failed to mention the fact that players could challenge other players to a duel anywhere in the game before duel arena came out.

Mortal online has basically been alive because of player donations. It's a subscription, but I know a lot of players like the game and company so much that always have subscription even if they aren't playing at the moment, Myself included. Kinda funny considering I find it the closest game to RuneScape.

I just restarted last week after a few years break. Seems like the player base really has gone down and still a lot of bots. I’m near maxed on two accounts but seems like the community is just not friendly either. After playing for 18 years on the game seems like the game doesn’t have much of a community anymore and is like a solo player game lol.
Runescape 3 is the game where you fill out the surveys to get ahead? Huh? I mean, it's certainly monetized and obviously pay to win compared to OSRS, but the few times I've even seen a discussion about filling out surveys to get keys, everybody tells you to ignore them and that they are scams. Don't think I've ever been presented with a survey with couple thousand hours in.
You can't think of any game that got big just off donations? Legally speaking, most Korean mmos list their MTX as "donation incentives". Nexon does this. Or they did at some point. I'm not reading the whole thing again.

Or if it gave anything it likely went on the floor as I was mostly lost near lumbridge and alkarid shhh there was no minimap do remember eventually printing out a giant map so I could find my way to falador.
