- Epic journey to share with you all aboard a British Airways Boeing 777-300 in their Club Suites cabin from their home at London’s Heathrow through to Tokyo.
Overall, a really super service from BA, with thanks largely to this fantastic new seat combined with a superb service from the crew. Couple of little bits for them to look at to really elevate the experience which the video touches on however, all in all, a very solid business class offering from them.

We're flying to Tokyo with Qatar business in May. We live in Mallorca, so have to go to a major airport to start. I chose Madrid so as to get Qatar (via Doha) but total flight time is a bit more at 15 or so hours. I could be tempted to swap to BA from LHR, as the price is similar, but the Qsuites are definitely in a class above BA business, both hard and soft product, and the Doha Qatar lounges (2 now) are excellent. Overall journey time is at least 3 hours more, but I think the stop in Doha for a shower and snacks helps break it up a bit.

@@hanj31 I was in Doha recently and tried both the old and new Qatar lounges ; both very impressive, the showers are very nice and the food excellent. And soon a gym in the new one. Can't wait for May!

Looks pretty good service from BA nice to see freshly painted aircraft, being picky but some additional cleaning required in the storage bins and that sliding door looked pretty grim, but the seat looked extremely comfortable and the layout of the cabin looked really good. The Lounge looks better with the new seats some were looking really tired, but a great report

Yeah would agree on the cleaning front, it’s just so basic but makes such a difference. Doors I found worked nicely, ideally a little higher for a little more privacy when seated but otherwise really good ✈️

A really comprehensive trip report, thank you! Looks like BA have the hard product right in terms of the Club Suite on the 777. It's the inconsistencies in the soft product and onboard service which let them down in my opinion but I have to say the meals on your particular flight looked decent and sounds like you had a fantastic crew. Would agree with all of that as ever. Meals overall good, potentially a bit of room for improvement here especially having flown this one out of their global hub, I think it just comes down to the quality of menu they select from the caterers.

I used B.A. business class on my regular long haul before the Covid fiasco. Never found their service or meals anything other than excellent. The cabin was the old layout so this is a great improvement. Because they’ve now hiked the price I’ve switched to AF which has been wonderful at a considerably lower cost. Although this involves a short layover at CDG I’ve no problem with that considering how much I save on price.
@@paullewis2413 yeah, really interesting take. I’ve been aware for a while of the hiked rates with BA, as so often the case for the ‘home’ carrier. I must say. My loyalty to them is very much price based given the TH-cam project and as is so often the case they’re not competitive I regularly use other carriers. Shame really

One thing that shocked me on BA Club Suite to cape town was how insanely small the bedding is, its almost like a small apron then something that would cover the seats. BA still have alot of catching up to do IMO
Larger mattress would for sure help, it is oddly small. Pillow the largest I’ve seen on any airline from memory however and blanket fine.

The Lounge looks beautiful. I agree the breakfast is the best part. British Airways gets a lot of criticism, quite a bit of it unjustified in my opinion. Very hard to compete with the middle eastern behemoths when one has to consistently make a profit. Enjoyed the vid.

@@francismcdonnell753 the other issue is the Middle Eastern airlines are generally funded by the government, whereas BA get zilch! I find most of the ME airlines to be somewhat tacky and the crew on BA if you get a good one are brill!

I recently flew to the Maldives with BA in business class and I found out something interesting on that flight. It appears they stock the food for the return journey on the same plane and don't restock in local country. Can see this if you look in the kitchen as the food boxes will have the 2 different flight numbers on them. However is an issue I found when I came back certain menu choices are shared across both flights so if it is a really popular item on the way out they literally have none for the way back.
In this case it was the cheese selection they had like 10 left and they all went to the people in 1st class. I also got peckish later in the flight as it was like 11.5hrs back to the UK and was similar situation in the club kitchen where you could help yourself to snacks. Was not much choice left and was even leftovers from the main course meal earlier added into the stock to make it look like there was more choice.
Ahhhh yes, the technical term for this escapes me but it’s often the case where the Harrison can’t provide the level of catering the airlines are looking for. Tricky situation with two long haul legs! Best to try and get your order in quickly in these cases, this is where status can really help!
Doing this on Weds next week to SEA from LHR. Its nice to see BA returning to course serving in J rather than everything on a tray!! Flew F to BOS last year with them and I honestly don't think the gap is tha large anymore. The new club suite seat is actually longer than the ones in F and the Concorde Room is nice, but....
A departure away from the one tray service is welcome for sure, they held onto that post Covid for far too long in my opinion. With the additional privacy now which the club suite affords, many will likely wonder the same! That said, we’re expecting a brand new first to be released as part of the A380 refurb so watch this space…

Aww sorry to hear that. I was on the BA005 I think. I have seen a few Dreamliners flying the route though so would assume you’re on one of those. Hope you get a change to the newer seat!

Nice report - thank you! When traveling from B Gates, the lounge over there is always my preference - the same (or very nearly) offer and usually far less crowded. Very difficult to get back from there though so not really an option if flying from A Gates.
BA really do need to rethink their shower suites and toilets - they've taken inspiration from NHS hospitals which is just unpleasant and way behind pretty much every competitor.
I'm not sure how traditionally British Yakatoti Chicken is! 🙂
Overall and considering the cost, I'm still far from convinced about BA's Club / Business class offering and would still prefer to fly with a number of other airlines, especially when flying to the Middle East, Far East and Oceania

Would be great to see a total re haul of the A area lounges, as you say the toilets and showers especially were done so cheaply! T3 lounges streets ahead so typically prefer to use one of the One World partners if possible these days!
You can get back to the A gates from B&C via the underground walkway. We always walk from A to either B or C gates. Its straightforward, go to level -4 via the lifts.
Just subscribed..Flying British Airwaysmfrom Chicago to London in September..Economy..Wish I could afford better seating being this is only my second overseas flight...Im 70 yr old and would love to stretch out an our overnight flight..But don't think I can pay the extra $$$$...Thank you for this video..I'll watch more of your videos....

I treated myself to business class on the way home from Cape Town later in the year and I can’t wait! Food is probably one of the things I’m most excited about (in life in general, haha!) and I was wondering if there were vegan options on the menu, and did you have to pay for the extra snacks at the snack bar?

On the vegan front, they’ll no doubt support that but I would look to reserve that ahead of time. Everything on the food front very much included in the skies so no worries there. Enjoy! ✈️

One issue with the amenity kits is the bag feels distinctly cheap, particularly the zip is very catchy. I actually prefer the moleskin cloth bags I got from United years ago and still use for travel now.
Yeah that’s a fair point I think. For sure they look really smart but bag could perhaps be improved via upsizing it slightly as the zip always seems to be working overtime to keep it shut!

Does depend on aircraft, the 787-9’s are still on that route I think hence the older layout sadly…

Just needs to work on his voice and speed of talking. Speaks way too fast. Very nasally and hard to understand. Also needs to learn to not breathe so heavily when he speaks too. Overall, quite good.

I thought BA only operate the old club world cabin on this LHR route to Tokyo?? I’m booked on BA0007 end of October on this exact route and it’s the old cabin which is a bit of a shame but it’s not the end of the world, still more than good enough for me and was under 3k return so a good price too.
Seems to be a bit of a mixture at the moment depending on the flight, mine was the 05. Unsure if it’s always the newer format however, with the 777’s now converted (or very close to) there’s a decent chance of getting it. As you say though, even with the old format, that’s really not a bad price for that length of flight…

British Airways is not the national airline of the UK, If it was then they would be operating international flights from airports other than that dump called Heathrow.
They do have a hub and spoke offering from the southern airports for sure. Tricky for those in the north, I do feel for anyone well out of easy driving range from Gatwick or Heathrow…
Same as every other country, Lufthansa only fly international from a few large airports, same in the USA, same everywhere!

Shocking. Tiny glass, half filled, with probably non-chilled cheap-as-chips champagne. The entire product looks like economy in SQ, EK, QR, etc, just with a bigger seat. BA truly must be one of the worst big airlines in the world, certainly as bad nowadays as the US carriers. But still many Brits seem to like it, and pay through the nose to fly BA. Horses for courses, I suppose.
Unfortunately, BA has a huge route offering and is often the “most available” way of leaving the UK
@@mercury6765 yes, very true. If one is travelling to or from the UK, and wants a direct flight, BA is often the least bad of what’s on offer (e.g. if it’s a flight from South America, central Africa, etc). A “distress purchase”.
Little bit harsh I think. Glass fill rate for practical reasons, top ups available. Can’t comment on the price of the champagne but wine was of a decent price point courtesy of Vivino.
The new seat itself is streets ahead of much of the EK fleet (have never got the fan fare around their J offering, see 777 reviews). Fair points on SQ and QR, they really are the global standard, J and Y comparisons harsh though! 😅
Many remain loyal to BA due to:
- Great route offering as others mentioned
- Impeccable flight crews
- OWA & historically a really good rewards programme
- Strong carrier for European short haul
Sadly though and as you mentioned, it’s that US competition piece which is the issue. For them they’re only really looking to be the best transatlantic option to remain financially successful and that’s a little bit of the issue.
I’ve stuck with them historically largely due to the One World Alliance piece in that I’ll fly BA across Europe and enjoy the status benefits then often fly QR east bound.
As you say though, horses for courses, we can all make our own decisions. The benefit for sure with a world awash with dozens of carriers. Sage travels ✈️

I don’t know if it’s only me but the video is badly overexposed. The highlights and whites are way to bright which makes all shots in daylight (in the terminal, loo, out of the window) quite unenjoyable…I loved the content but this was quite the pain. Sorry!
