  • This is how to update the roof of a gazebo from poly-carbonate to galvanized steel using the original frame of the gazebo.
    The polycarbonate panels do not last more than 2 years and they get damaged easily by the Canadian winter!

    This is our weekend project (we are in Qc and have hailstone almost every summer). We had a lots of holes and wanted something better than polycarbonate roof. Thank you for your video.

    I can confirm that this works. I used 'Domtek' lo-rib metal panels (3/8" high ribs). It can be done with 6 sheets @ 8' long if cut correctly. You need to cut a small slot (3/8"-1/2" long) to each side of each rib, then crimp down the rib slightly with a pair of pliers so it fits snug into the slots of the gazebo(the slots are 0.300" and the metal ribs are 0.375")
    I am in Canada, my gazebo is 10x12, I bought 8 panels @ $36 ea and am returning 2.

      I am only seeing 24"×8ft peices from Rona. Did you use 36"x8ft?

      I found them but they are $75 not $36

      @@KalsFD steel market has gone crazy in the last year, I'm not surprised with the price change.

    Exactly the solution I was looking for! Merci!

    Nice job. Was looking for a solution to this issue. Shall be a project for the near future. The sheets have gone up though. 40$ each. Oh well. Still cheaper than replacement panel kit (if available)

    I saw your video and I think it was excellent, I want to do the same project with my 10x12 gazebo, since the roof is made of Polycarbonate and is quite damaged, if you have more details about this project I would appreciate this.

    i have the same problem here in scotland i have a 3m x 3m gazeebo and a few years ago we had 90mph winds and some of my polycarbon roofing sheets ripped of my gazeebo and broke i have been hunting for polycarbon sheets but there expensive to replace i have to replace them all with a new pack its the cost of a new gazeebo as they dont do them invividual sheets unless you go to your merchants i have been rattling my brain to what i can use as a substitute in replacing them disgusting polycarbon plastic sheeting to a stronger and sustainable source of roof

    Can you update us on heat while under the gazebo? Is the metal roof cooler than the poly roof? Thanks!

      Yes, the steel panels are cooler than the original panels. Now we can sit under the gazebo when it is very hot outside.

    How did the roof survive? Did it keep the rain out?

      It is still fine after 2 winters ( snow, Ice, rain, high winds)

    Nice job, I need to do the same since my polycarbonate panels have holes. I don't quite understand the part about cutting and forming the rolled edge? Are you cutting off and notching out the humps in the steel since they won't fit in the horizontal tracks that are half way up the roof?

    • @Outlander-Qc
      @Outlander-Qc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes , you need to make 2 cuts in each bump. Then using a pliers, you bend the top down in a way that it can slide inside the horizontal track.

    Very nice !!!
    But how do you secure the metal sheet with the roofing screws? Do you put additionnal horizontal wooden beam?

    • @Outlander-Qc
      @Outlander-Qc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My gazebo already have metal horizontal rails. So I put 1 screw in each panel to hold it in place.

    How much will ot cost for everything? I have the same problem. Good job

    • @Outlander-Qc
      @Outlander-Qc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will be around 600$ since that panel are now 60$ each and you need 8. Also you need the screws.

    Hello how did this hold up over the winter? I am in an area that gets heavy snow sometimes

    • @Outlander-Qc
      @Outlander-Qc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is fine! There was over 16 inches of hard pack snow during our winter on the roof of the gazebo and it did not have any damage.

    • @Lavabo-Quebec
      @Lavabo-Quebec 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Outlander-Qc i guess problem is not the metal sheet but the gazebo structure that need to hold the snow weight!! One winter i kept my poly carbonate panel, but i had to brace the structure and shovel the top after snowstorm.
